You can’t just nest at home on New Year’s Eve, can you?
What do you think?”
“Sure!”
—————–
Saint Rodu, Red Street.
Familiar streets, unfamiliar people—Cheng Daqi brought Zhao Hongjin here on New Year’s Eve.
The latitude of Saint Rodu is not very high, but the winter wind is still harsh.
Under the assault of the cold wind, the once extensive tent shelters have been greatly reduced.
The cold is the homeless’s greatest enemy.
Once the temperature drops, those with already precarious health easily fall ill, and the doctors who are keen on prescribing painkillers can’t offer them much treatment.
Every winter, it has become the norm for a few hundred people in Saint Rodu to freeze to death.
Perhaps, in the minds of those ‘masters,’ the thought is not absent that the more who die, the less pressure they’ll have next year.
But not too many can die; after all, every homeless person can slice off several thousand dollars from California’s public welfare budget—that’s pure cash!
So, with the arrival of winter, various materials for surviving the winter also get distributed by welfare organizations and non-profits.
They hope the homeless can survive this winter in as large numbers as possible.
“I didn’t expect you’d bring me here.”
Zhao Hongjin looked at CEO Cheng with admiration in her eyes.
She remembered this place.
CEO Cheng was pitiful as a drowned dog back then but clever like a master detective, leaving a deep impression on her.
“Ha, on one hand, I wanted to distribute some food for the homeless to last the winter, and on the other, it’s also about doing something meaningful,” Cheng Daqi sighed lightly, opening the trunk of the van which was filled with various kinds of food.
Cole and Danze were responsible for acting as bodyguards, as Red Street was not exactly a safe place.
The MAS photography team had also followed along; the focus today was not really on Cheng Daqi or Zhao Hongjin, but on Scott.
Cheng Daqi was clear that given Wolf’s family background and character, he was destined to make waves in the two houses of America, and Scott’s path to politics as Wolf’s assistant could be described as a heavenly start.
Since it was already so favorable, Cheng Daqi certainly wouldn’t be stingy with resources.
“Chan, I didn’t expect you to come.
I thought it would just be me and Riel tonight,” Cort said, somewhat surprised by Cheng Daqi’s arrival.
“Just came to see you, it’s all good, let’s distribute together.”
Standing together with Zhao Hongjin and Scott, CEO Cheng began distributing supplies.
The homeless lining up for goods could never imagine that just a few months ago, CEO Cheng was one of them.
Now CEO Cheng has a driver wherever he goes, bodyguards even at home, a super internet celebrity girlfriend, over a dozen companies, having rushed through the ‘West Coast version’ in just a few months.
Real estate magnate Crusoe is his partner, the Governor’s brother is his friend, the boss of LPAD is his ‘partner’, and even the heir to the well-known West Coast Dracula family is willing to give him a hand.
Cheng Daqi’s journey hasn’t been simple.
Zhao Hongjin knows nearly all his affairs, so as she watched his figure, she let out an imperceptible sigh.
She raised her cell phone, took a picture of CEO Cheng’s back, and then on an impulse, posted it to TikTok.
The girl hadn’t forgotten what Mi’er did that morning.
What comes around goes around.
Zhao Hongjin’s ‘revenge’ was nowhere near satisfying just with one round; she had already posted a photo with CEO Cheng before, and this time she wanted to do it again.
Mi’er, tonight is New Year’s Eve, and I am with Cheng Daqi!
Where are you?
Hmph!
On the other side, after most of the distribution was done, CEO Cheng and Cort started chatting.
“How did this afternoon’s event feel?
Any thoughts?”
This afternoon, the California Elephant Party held a formal large gathering, and Wolf officially joined the ranks, securing his position as the next generation’s core leadership within the California Elephant Party.
After all, the Elephant Party’s influence in California is too small, and the few who stand out are just that, with Old Crusoe still holding a (City Councilor—power in the House of Representatives is relative, not absolute).
Someone like Wolf, who is a financier himself, truly stands out as a young talent to be reckoned with in the Elephant Party.
“It’s not quite comfortable, but I found a few other veterans like myself, and we had a pretty good chat,” Cort said.
Cort’s past experiences were a far cry from politics, so of course, he was uncomfortable.
Fortunately, political competition in America is not fierce; otherwise, he wouldn’t even qualify to enter the game.
In America, the smartest people go into finance, become lawyers, or doctors—even engineers are no longer top-tier jobs, and only the less capable venture into politics.
Because smart people understand that politics requires becoming a dog, having family resources, needing someone to lead the way, while those other professions don’t.
Top financial operators can easily achieve financial freedom, top lawyers enjoy a social status not less than that of politicians, and top doctors are self-explanatory; they service the world’s most health-conscious customers at the highest prices—America’s healthcare industry accounts for over twenty percent of the national GDP, a figure that is less than ten percent in our country.
(Here’s a counter-intuitive point, by the way: for over ninety percent of diseases, our level of diagnosis and treatment is the highest in the world, with India, America, and others falling short.
It’s not without reason; a large number of cases and high-level development have made it so—just be sure to do your research when choosing a doctor or a hospital…
I’d even argue that ninety percent is conservative.)
“Cort, have you ever thought about what kind of people will make up the base of your voters in the future?”
