My American magical life -
Chapter 457 - 457 70 Gru's Wife_2
457: Chapter 70 Gru’s Wife_2 457: Chapter 70 Gru’s Wife_2 —————–
“What are you pulling me for?”
Outside the hall, a frail Sun Xuewen asked as Riel set him down.
This man, who looked like a killer, was well aware of how fierce he was, yet this did not stop him from feeling that Riel had just made him lose face.
CEO Cheng can be as harsh to me as he wants; he’s still my uncle.
You’re just my uncle’s dog, what right do you have to be harsh on me?
“Nobody in there has their entourage with them.
Don’t be a Shabi at a time like this.
You’re losing face for the boss, and it doesn’t matter even if you’re a relative of the boss, understand?”
Riel advised the clueless kid in a hushed voice as he scanned the area, eyeing the food at a distant table.
“Come with me, let’s grab something to eat first.”
The bear-like Riel constantly needed to replenish his energy.
He moved quickly, and Sun Xuewen, not familiar with the place and fearing another mistake, had to hurry to keep up.
“Riel, do you know the people inside the small hall?”
As he filled his plate with food, Riel explained.
“There isn’t much to say about Gru, but of the other three, I only know two.
Rick Crusoe, a real estate businessman…
but he’s running for City Councilor.
There’s also a legal adviser from the Italy gang.
I’ve seen him before but don’t know his name.”
Sun Xuewen didn’t understand much about real estate, but he had many Italian classmates.
“Crusoe is also an Italian surname, and this sheriff seems to have connections with the lawyer from the Italy gang.
Riel, is my uncle from the Chinese gang?”
Riel gave Sun Xuewen a look as if he were looking at a Shabi and didn’t want to speak anymore.
He considered himself not smart, and not being smart wasn’t an issue as long as he followed the right person.
But it was rare for him to encounter someone as Shabi as this, and Riel felt that even speaking one more word to such a Shabi was a waste of life.
Cheng was much tougher than those involved in gangs, a kind of tough that Riel didn’t understand at all.
“Eat more, it’ll help your brain.”
After giving Sun a piece of advice, Riel began his autumn breeze sweeping fallen leaves-style meal supplement.
Being professional at fighting didn’t mean he wasn’t skilled at slacking off.
As a mature subordinate, he was good at using every break during work to eat.

“Chan, Rick Crusoe, Benny Donce, you’re all my good friends.
Chat amongst yourselves, I’ll go outside and check on things.”
After a brief introduction, Gru left.
As the man of the hour, he indeed had things to keep him busy.
“Hello, Mr.
Crusoe, Mr.
Donce, you can call me Chan,” said Cheng Daqi slowly.
He also glanced at the lawyer that Gru hadn’t introduced – this was to confirm the situation.
“Hahaha, Chan, I’ve heard about you from my son before; Domo told me you’re a very impressive entrepreneur.
How’s your company doing?”
Rick Crusoe was actually Domo’s father?
Cheng Daqi was momentarily stunned but quickly replied.
“Hahaha, Mr.
Crusoe, if you’re interested in startup companies, then I have far too much I could share with you.
However, could I get a glass of water, waiter?
How come there’s not even a waiter here?”
Gru had thrown out an introduction and left, leaving CEO Cheng to reassess the situation, tangling with the father of a rich acquaintance; it forced him to double-check his bearings.
Benny Donce didn’t move, but the lawyer from the Italy gang smiled and indicated that he could help Cheng find a waiter.
Now only three men remained in the annex, and CEO Cheng understood that these two were no ordinary characters.
“It’s surprising that Gru, who has been single all these years, suddenly decided to get married in his forties.
I thought it was a joke when I first heard the news, hahaha.
Since it’s his first time, today’s ceremony is a bit chaotic.
Benny, you’d be the best to help him out.”
Rick Crusoe acted as a lubricant, shifting the topic to Benny.
“Don’t get me started; it was after my third divorce that I finally understood marriage is something that should be swept into the dustbin of history.”
Benny Donce was an adviser to Disney’s Sect Leader Iger Robert in his professional life, but he was also one of a rare few in the West Coast social circuit who had clear channels in Washington.
As a prince of social occasions, even if he wasn’t well-acquainted with CEO Cheng, Benny could easily dominate the conversation.
Several men sitting together, complaining about marriage and women was definitely a plentiful topic for conversation.
Critical as they may be, this topic could always be brought out without ever becoming a dud.
(Considering the more conservative nature of our culture compared to the Western context.)
“I have to say, Mr.
Donce, your point is spot on, but I have one question.”
Cheng Daqi took the cup offered by the waiter and continued.
“So, why did our Mr.
Gru do something foolish?”
As a contrast in a social setting, CEO Cheng’s response was rich with the essence of American humor, and it would’ve been normal for Crusoe and Benny to laugh.
But both men hesitated for a moment before forcing a courteous laugh.
That obliging, hollow, insincere laugh made CEO Cheng sense something was off—Gru’s marriage was not simple!
The logic was clear: Domo’s father was at the pinnacle of local tycoons, and although not familiar, Benny was definitely not simple; their attitudes said a lot!
“Chan, Benny is an executive at Disney, the party prince of the West Coast.
You’ll certainly get to know him better.”
Crusoe lacked the tardiness of a middle-aged man, a stark contrast to the image he had projected while helping Eris campaign, but Cheng had no time to ponder Crusoe’s inconsistency.
He was more interested in Benny, the Disney executive.
“Disney?
I remember during the Red Street kidnapping case, the first reporter to go in was from your ABC.
She was braver than most.”
