Chapter 187 - 187 72 Balcony Night Talk Cheng Daqi Cornered
187: Chapter 72: Balcony Night Talk, Cheng Daqi Cornered 187: Chapter 72: Balcony Night Talk, Cheng Daqi Cornered Domo was intently grilling meat.
He didn’t feel neglected at all; Scott had already come to invite him, but he had turned him down.
The chunky chef didn’t much care for socializing.
Instead of being with a bunch of people, he preferred to cook delicious food alone.
“Chan, do you want to try this?
This batch was grilled just right.”
With one hand on his phone and the other managing a big bunch of barbecue, Domo stood in front of the grill, the picture of ease.
“Though you didn’t marinate these meats in advance, the barbecue sauce I brought is definitely tasty.”
Leaning against the wall, lighting a cigarette, Cheng Daqi said to Domo.
“Haha, I saw you were still grilling meat, so I came over specially to find you, what you have grilled should be enough.”
The chunky chef paused for a moment with his barbecuing, put down his phone, and replied.
“Are you close to Eris?”
Upon hearing this, Cheng Daqi lifted his head and looked toward Domo.
Saint Rodu had fallen into night, and the dim balcony lacked lighting, with light from the living room spilling through the patio doors to the outside.
Looking from the side, Domo’s expression was unclear, and Cheng Daqi wasn’t sure what he meant.
“It’s okay, I guess I know him.”
Cheng Daqi did not elaborate, responding only with a noncommittal phrase in a somber tone.
He did not go into the details of the collaboration Eris had mentioned to Domo.
“Chan, Mr.
Eris is not an ordinary man, you have to be careful in dealing with him.”
The chunky chef picked up a pitcher, pouring water to extinguish a large portion of the charcoal fire.
He focused on stirring the charcoal, speaking in a low voice.
“Isn’t he helping your father with his campaign?”
Cheng Daqi was well aware that Eris was no ordinary man, but he didn’t know just how powerful Eris actually was.
This West Coast agent was actually darker than Gru and even more unscrupulous.
He might not have held as high a position as Gru, but his methods were never inferior to Gru’s.
“That’s why I said he’s not simple, he controls two, how should I put it, two gangs.”
Domo wrapped the barbecue in foil and also pulled out a smoke.
However, he was smoking an e-cigarette, and when Cheng Daqi tried to light it for him, he lowered his hand halfway through.
Alright, Americans smoking e-cigarettes, quite upscale.
“One is the Croatian gang, in San Francisco, and the other includes various individuals, called the Roro gang, right here in Saint Rodu.
He’s helping my father campaign, collected money, but the results are poor, and his appetite is not small.”
The chunky chef actually had some complaints about Eris; he felt that this agent was not very honorable.
Hearing the chunky chef’s explanations, Cheng Daqi silently smoked his cigarette, not responding immediately.
“You have to be careful in dealing with him, don’t rely on him too much, he’s a venomous snake, Chan.”
Seeing that Cheng Daqi didn’t say anything, Domo continued to advise.
As a friend, although they were not very close, Domo was still very dependable.
Cheng Daqi glanced appreciatively at the round-faced chunky chef and then spoke slowly.
“Your father is with the Republican Party?”
“Our whole family supports the Republican Party, we’ve been supporting it since it was still called the Whig Party.”
The chunky chef shrugged and replied.
“But the West Coast, or say, California, isn’t this Democratic Party territory?
Why would he want to run for City Councilor here?”
Ever since he had held a sign for Domo’s father, Cheng Daqi always felt that the Republican City Councilor candidate was a bit off.
Trying to bloom in the heart of enemy territory.
Please, this is America, not the Garden of Roundabouts.
It’s not that simple.
Including why Eris would still take money to act as an agent when he knew it would be pointless, Cheng Daqi had his own understanding.
If a fool is handing out money, it’s a loss not to take it.
If Eris didn’t earn it, someone else wouldn’t miss the chance.
“Someone promised my father that if he could serve as a City Councilor in Saint Rodu first, they would support him for a run as a California State Assembly member.”
Domo didn’t think Cheng Daqi would understand his explanation, he just gave a rough idea without going into detail.
Hearing the chunky chef’s words, Cheng Daqi looked back at the people in the house and then spoke.
“Do you guys think that man can get re-elected next time?”
Domo’s pupils shifted slightly, startled by Cheng Daqi’s keenness.
Chan, aren’t you a bit too smart?
“Yes, even though California is a deep blue state, many people here are hijacked by the Democratic Party, our family knows quite a few locals, those with a small amount of property.
Everyone hopes to introduce some other forces to check the rampant, um, you know, those assholes.”
Toward the end, Domo shrugged.
‘Those assholes,’ he was sure Cheng Daqi could understand his words.
“You mean, your father saw an opportunity, so he wanted to try?
But isn’t this like shitting on the Democratic Party’s face, didn’t you guys consider being suppressed by them?”
Cheng Daqi’s thoughts were clear; in his memory, there was no news of a Republican assemblyman emerging in California’s future.
This meant that in the original timeline, Domo’s father’s attempt had failed.
“The opportunity is there, many of California’s policies are becoming more and more outrageous, a lot of people have grievances, my father is just the one who stood up.
No matter how powerful the Democratic Party is, they can’t possibly kill all those in California who dare to oppose them.”
The chunky chef wasn’t afraid of the Democratic Party’s suppression.
“Those people are just weather vanes, as long as you stuff some money into their mouths, they will wag their tails and bark for you.”
As a young man set to inherit the family business if his own entrepreneurship didn’t succeed, Domo had the confidence to make such statements.
Having noted an important contact, Cheng Daqi didn’t yet see how Domo could bring him any benefits.
