Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Milk Dog Younger Brother
The unpleasant person had left, and Mrs. Wu’s face even brightened a few smiles as she walked over and affectionately took Chu Nanli’s hand.
"Thank you, Princess Consort Chu, for saving the life of that little devil of mine today. May I trouble you for a visit to your estate to sit for a while and meanwhile have the bodyguard deliver the thank-you gift?"
The thank-you gifts amounted to two large boxes.
Luo Shuye also squeezed in, looking at Chu Nanli expectantly.
"Of course, as long as Madam and the young master do not mind the modesty of my small garden."
Ye Yunting watched from the side and found the three of them resembling a family, which unexpectedly made him somewhat more irritable.
Just then, Chu Nanli turned to look at him.
Ye Yunting’s heart skipped half a beat, and he felt a tinge of anticipation he himself hadn’t noticed.
Chu Nanli said, "Prince, should the gratitude gift go to my treasury?"
Ye Yunting’s face darkened as he replied discontentedly, "Of course it should."
Did this woman really think he would compete with her for a mere gratitude gift?
Chu Nanli added, "Yanyan and I have come to pick out some timber in the west court for the renovation of the east wing room, as we heard it requires the Prince’s permission, so..."
"Granted" Ye Yunting, impatient to hear her out, agreed.
Chu Nanli didn’t respond, instead glanced at the estate manager not far away.
The estate manager cursed inwardly but quickly came over with an obsequious trot, "I’ll register it for the Princess Consort. Would you need the timber now?"
Yanyan said, "I’ll go with the estate manager."
The estate manager replied promptly.
Chu Nanli, in front of him and Ye Yunting, instructed Yanyan, "Don’t hesitate to choose the good ones."
Ye Yunting’s face fell, and with a flick of his sleeve, he turned and entered the house.
Chu Nanli didn’t care much and turned to Mrs. Wu and Luo Shuye, "I’ve kept Madam and the young master waiting for too long, let’s go."
Soon, they arrived at Chu Nanli’s Chuxiang Garden.
The banging and knocking coming from the east wing drew the gaze of Mrs. Wu and Luo Shuye.
Seeing the fire marks that hadn’t been cleaned up yet, both mother and son were surprised.
Luo Shuye, unable to keep his curiosity, blurted out, "Benefactor sister, has there been a flood?"
"Yes, but it’s all in the past, please come in and have a seat, Madam and young master."
Mrs. Wu seemed to catch something in her statement, but since Chu Nanli did not elaborate, she didn’t ask further.
The trio chatted amiably.
Even after leaving, Luo Shuye specifically ran back to ask Chu Nanli for her name.
"Chu Nanli."
"Then I’ll call you Sister Nanli, I’m Luo Shuye, and you can call me Shuye."
"Just call me by my name."
"That won’t do, it’s too distant."
"..."
Luo Shuye continued to ask about Chu Nanli’s birthday, and upon learning that she was only a few months older than him, he was so delighted he nearly bounced off the ground.
It was Chu Nanli who, feeling perplexed and worried about his leg injury, pressed him down.
Luo Shuye grinned, revealing a row of white teeth, his smile was bright and harmless.
"Sister Nanli, it’s really nice to know you. I’m off then."
He waved energetically at Chu Nanli and then turned to leave, chasing after Mrs. Wu and the others.
A phrase involuntarily popped into Chu Nanli’s mind: ’puppy brother.’
The next moment, she tapped her head.
What was she thinking!
"Princess Consort!"
Yanyan had returned, with a few logs of timber being hauled back as well.
Chu Nanli checked them and saw that indeed they were of fine quality.
"Let the carpenter replace them, and collect the leftover scraps for me; I have a use for them."
"Yes."
Chu Nanli thought about the upcoming Spring Banquet and decided to keep a low profile in the estate for the next couple of days. She would avoid Yunting as much as possible to prevent any complications regarding her attendance at the banquet.
However, things often don’t go as planned.
The palace arranged for Ye Yunting to review the list of performances for the Spring Banquet.
