My Aloof Lord Ex-Husband Begs for Remarriage -
Chapter 169 - 170: Won’t Let Chu Nanli Rest
Chapter 169: Chapter 170: Won’t Let Chu Nanli Rest
Ye Yunting watched Yang Shu’s frenzied expression with tightly knitted brows.
"I’ve said I will not divorce Chu Nanli. If Mother has asked me to stay just to discuss this matter, your son begs to be excused!"
Ye Yunting turned and left.
Yang Shu, furious, smashed a white jade vase behind him.
"What’s so great about that little wench! A powerless and insignificant commoner, how is she fit for the position of Princess Consort!"
Yang Shu had always looked down on Chu Nanli’s status.
Her own family members were each extraordinary in their own right, either rich or noble.
Yet the Princess Consort her son had married was someone without any status or identity at all.
Even those sisters of hers, whose backgrounds were not as good as hers, had sons who had married daughters of officials.
"Although that Concubine of yours is concubine-born, she is still the daughter of the Prime Minister. It would be better even if you elevated that Concubine to the main wife’s position than to have a commoner occupy the Princess Consort’s rank!"
Lin Fuying also stood by the side, extremely delighted by Yang Shu’s words!
As long as Yang Shu recognized her, then there was hope for her to obtain the position of the legitimate Princess Consort.
"I’ve said, Chu Nanli’s position as the lawful Princess Consort is untouchable."
Ye Yunting said coldly, expressionless.
"I hope Mother will not interfere with the affairs of War King Residence any further."
"You!"
Yang Shu, fuming, pointed at Ye Yunting and scolded, "Fine, fine, fine, you’ve grown bold and disobedient, haven’t you? Have you forgotten how you got to where you are today? Without the support of the Yang Family, I would like to see how you could stand against the Crown Prince!"
"Mother, watch your words!" Ye Yunting’s expression turned ice-cold!
The King detested sibling rivalry early on, and a Crown Prince was established precisely to inform the princes not to covet that position.
The Yang Family’s power and status were several times higher than they were now, but they had been steadily declining.
That’s why his mother wanted him to compete for that position; if he succeeded, it would revitalize the Yang Family.
But he had little interest in that position.
He was also determined to make his own achievements, but only on the battlefield against the enemy.
When Ye Yunting roared, Yang Shu also realized she had been speaking of treason. As if doused with a bucket of cold water, she sobered up considerably.
"Fine, I can’t control you now." Yang Shu lowered her voice in anger, "Get out!"
Ye Yunting left with a dark face, flinging his sleeves.
Lin Fuying was going to follow him, but after a moment’s thought, she stayed behind to keep Yang Shu company for a while.
Firstly, to curry favor with Yang Shu, and secondly, to counsel Yang Shu not to truly estrange herself from Ye Yunting.
She, too, hoped Ye Yunting would vie for that position, so she could be second only to one, above tens of thousands.
And if Ye Yunting wanted to compete for that position, he would need the Yang Family’s backing...
Ye Yunting didn’t say anything about Lin Fuying’s decision to stay.
He sat in the carriage with a stern face, took a deep breath, and for the first time felt somewhat weary.
Everyone hoped he would compete for that position, including Lin Fuying.
But he didn’t want to be trapped by that position, didn’t want sibling rivalry, and certainly didn’t want his father to be disappointed in him.
These past years, he had almost overshadowed the Crown Prince, and his Princess Consort’s background couldn’t be supported by any faction.
Only Chu Nanli, a commoner with a clean identity, was most suitable.
So, he wouldn’t divorce Chu Nanli.
He thought back to the first time he met Chu Nanli, and then to her hateful gaze, feeling increasingly irritable.
Clearly, Chu Nanli used to look at him with light in her eyes, but now, no longer.
Returning to Prince Residence, he unconsciously made his way to Chuxiang Garden.
When he came to his senses, he stood there in a daze for an instant.
Chu Nanli had just returned from the other side as well.
The lush spring trees obscured the view, and she didn’t notice Ye Yunting, who was lost in thought, and bumped straight into him.
Ye Yunting instinctively caught her.
Both had been distracted, neither quite reacting in time.
When Chu Nanli looked up and saw it was Ye Yunting, she felt an omen of misfortune.
