Chapter 140 - 141: Haven’t Had Time to Feel Sorry for Yingying
Chapter 140: Chapter 141: Haven’t Had Time to Feel Sorry for Yingying
Chu Nanli spent a little less than half an hour stabilizing her pregnancy before she put her clothes back on and called Yanyan in.
Yanyan, with a tense look on her face, practically ran to the bedside.
"My lady, how are you? Are you feeling better?"
"I’m fine now, don’t worry."
Seeing her complexion return to normal, Yanyan breathed a sigh of relief but still didn’t dare to be careless and asked, "Princess Consort, did you call me in to have some water? I’ve asked the kitchen to stew bird’s nest soup for you."
"I’m a bit hungry, instruct the kitchen to prepare a meal."
"Yes."
Yanyan left the room to instruct the other maids to bring over the bird’s nest soup, then returned to ask Chu Nanli what she would like for lunch.
With Ye Yunting away, Chuxiang Garden no longer carried the gloomy and cold atmosphere but became warm and comfortable once more.
Half an hour later, Chu Nanli had her lunch.
At Lin Fuying’s place, Ye Yunting had just arrived.
As soon as he stepped into the courtyard, he heard the maids’ chatter.
"My lady, you mustn’t get the wound on your hand wet, or it will get inflamed and leave a scar. Ah, you’ve hurt yourself with a knife just to have the Prince eat the meal you personally cooked. The Prince will be so distressed when he finds out."
"It’s nothing, just a small wound. Let’s get the food on the table first; the Prince will be here soon, and we mustn’t keep him waiting."
Ye Yunting’s brow furrowed slightly, and he quickly walked over.
After he entered, the maids seemed to only then realize his arrival and were surprised, promptly paying their respects.
Ye Yunting stepped forward and helped Lin Fuying to her feet, seizing her right hand.
"Prince!" Lin Fuying exclaimed, attempting to withdraw and hide.
Ye Yunting’s voice softened in reassurance, "Behave, let me have a look first."
Lin Fuying shyly lowered her head, revealing her slender and fair neck.
Ye Yunting gently held her hand.
The woman’s right index finger was wrapped in several layers of gauze, with fresh red blood seeping from the fingertip.
Ye Yunting reached to unwrap the gauze, wanting to see the wound. "Cut with a knife? How did it happen on your right hand?"
Lin Fuying’s heart skipped a beat, realizing she had overlooked a significant flaw.
Being right-handed, if she were using the knife, it should be her left hand that was injured.
In a moment of panic, she cried out in pain.
Ye Yunting paused, "Did I hurt you?"
He immediately let go of her hand.
"Is there medicine on it?"
Lin Fuying replied weakly, "Yes, it’s been treated."
How could she dare let Ye Yunting see the small cut caused by a thorn on her finger?
"It’s all because Yingying is clumsy. My arm was sore from using my right hand to chop vegetables, so I thought I’d try with my left hand, and that’s how it got cut."
Ye Yunting looked pained, holding her in an embrace and sighing softly, "You’ve worked hard. Next time, let the kitchen cook. I remember you’ve hurt your hands a few times before."
Hearing this, Lin Fuying quickly buried her face in his chest, embarrassing herself yet tightly clenching her small fists to gently punch his chest.
"You’re teasing me, condemning Yingying as clumsy."
Ye Yunting chuckled indulgently, "It’s not that I find you clumsy; I’m too distressed for Yingying to even think such a thing."
Off to the side, Dong Yue tactfully finished arranging the dishes and left.
After the pair were done being affectionate, they each took their seats.
Lin Fuying subtly probed, "Yesterday, Yingying visited Yang Shu in the palace, and she seemed to have many complaints against my sister. When the Prince finished with the court today, did Yang Shu say anything to you?"
Ye Yunting’s expression faltered, then casually replied, "After court, I went to see my mother, and Yang Shu was just venting her temper, nothing serious."
Lin Fuying’s heart sank deeply.
Did this mean the Prince had not considered Yang Shu’s request to divorce his wife?
What right did the lowly-born Chu Nanli have to be the War God Residence’s Princess Consort? She was nothing more than a woman with a seductive face.
Unwilling to accept this, Lin Fuying began to probe Ye Yunting’s current attitude towards Chu Nanli.
"My sister has changed a lot recently, so the Prince needn’t concern himself with her so much anymore; she seems much happier."
Images of Chu Nanli confronting him that morning crossed Ye Yunting’s mind, and he felt a touch of irritation, his tone indifferent.
"She’s tolerable," he said.
Lin Fuying, with her sharp mind, noticed his lack of enthusiasm and dared not ask further, but her sense of crisis was stronger than ever.
