Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Lin Fuying Instigates
"Sister, how can this be getting worse?" Lin Fuying seemed frightened, her face went pale, and she gasped.
However, in the next instant, she was proven wrong.
Princess Consort suddenly opened her eyes, still looking somewhat bewildered.
"What happened?"
The Imperial Physician quickly said beside her, "You were poisoned."
He recounted the events and specifically added, "This humble servant is not skilled in detoxification; it was Princess Consort Chu who saved you."
Princess Consort turned her lovely eyes towards Chu Nanli, surprised, and said, "Princess Consort Chu is actually proficient in medicine; truly a marvelous person. After the banquet ends, I would like to invite Princess Consort Chu to sit with me for a while at my place to properly thank her."
She stood up with the help of a Palace Maid, wiped the blood from the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief, and gave a bow to the Empress Dowager and Empress.
"Apologies for disturbing the Empress Dowager and the Empress, I have acted improperly here."
The Empress Dowager said, "Princess Consort should go back and rest; let the Empress arrange for someone to find out who harmed you."
Yet, Princess Consort said, "Thank you for your concern, Empress Dowager, but I am not seriously hurt. I do not wish to dampen everyone’s spirits, so I will continue to stay in the hall with everyone. After the palace banquet, then it will not be too late to investigate who the poisoner was."
Hearing this, Chu Nanli couldn’t help but admire her composure.
Seeing this, the Empress Dowager did not say more, nodded, and said, "I am a bit tired, so I will leave now."
Chu Nanli bowed along with everyone else.
"Farewell to the Empress Dowager."
The Empress Dowager glanced at Chu Nanli before she left.
After she left, the Empress showed some concern for Princess Consort. Seeing that she indeed seemed fine, she instructed for the banquet to continue.
Chu Nanli, under the gaze of either awe or jealousy in the hall, returned to her seat.
No sooner had she sat down than she heard Ye Yunting’s voice beside her.
"When did you learn medicine?"
If the last time she saved Luo Shuye was a coincidence, then this time Chu Nanli saving someone was witnessed by him himself; he couldn’t help but believe that Chu Nanli knew medicine.
Chu Nanli looked at him and said indifferently, "Do you believe now that I know medicine, Prince?"
Ye Yunting choked and laughed out of exasperation.
"You still have that stubborn temper; very disagreeable."
Stubborn temper?!
Chu Nanli also laughed in irritation, but just as she was about to retort, she heard a commotion.
"Divine Doctor Bai Wuheng has arrived!"
"He’s probably going to sit at the War God’s table again, right?"
"Definitely. Young Master Bai and the War God, along with Concubine Lin, have been friends since childhood. I really envy Concubine Lin; she’s so fortunate."
Chu Nanli had no fondness for Bai Wuheng; seeing him arrive drained her of the desire to engage further.
After Bai Wuheng bowed to the Empress and had an eunuch add another stool, taking a seat beside Lin Fuying, Chu Nanli paid no attention.
However, she then heard Lin Fuying quietly discussing the recent poisoning incident.
"...Wuhen, you wouldn’t believe how perilous the scene was. The Imperial Physician was at a loss, and thankfully my sister was bold; she was the one who revived the Princess Consort with a needle. She must have seen some medical techniques involving the use of needles for detoxifying, so she tried it out. Yingying was so worried for my sister, but thankfully, she succeeded."
The more Bai Wuheng listened, the tighter his brows furrowed, upset.
Chu Nanli didn’t look up or give Lin Fuying any glance, sneering to herself.
Such a perfect lotus indeed.
One remark about being "brave," another about "making an attempt," had turned her life-saving method, which even the Imperial Physician acknowledged, into a reckless act of ignorance, daring to save lives based solely on something read from a book.
Bai Wuheng then looked at her coldly, his tone sharp.
"Chu Nanli, medicine is not something you can learn just by reading a few pages. What you did today could cause trouble for Yunting! I hope you realize this, and do not mess around with people’s lives!"
No sooner had his words fallen than a scream arose.
"Princess Consort has fainted again!"
