Chapter 200: Chapter 200

she had lost count of the letters she had received, but no one had ever offered to write her a guarantee. She sighed and said, "Alright, you can. But think carefully. If you make a promise, you must keep it, or I’ll never trust you again."

"Don’t worry, Mrs. Wilson. I’ll keep my word," Kevin said seriously. "If I fail you, I’ll disappear from your life."

"Alright, enough of that." Mia said with a gentle smile. Looking up, she saw a newly opened supermarket and said, "Let’s go inside. Are you hungry? I’ll treat you to lunch." Just then, Kevin’s stomach growled, making her laugh. Her eyes sparkled, and she looked radiant.

Kevin felt a bit embarrassed. At his age, he often felt hungry soon after eating. Most students kept snacks at their desks to replenish their energy. Kevin, being tall and active, burned calories quickly and got hungry faster than most. Whenever he visited Camila in her office, she would give him chocolates to keep his strength up for their sessions.

"Let’s find somewhere to eat," Mia said, noticing Kevin’s blush. She pulled him into a Burger King at the entrance of the supermarket. "This seems nice. It’s lunchtime, and everywhere else will be crowded."

"Mrs. Wilson, I’ll follow your lead," Kevin said. The place was busy, and he held Mia’s hand tightly, feeling a sweet warmth. If he could do this with Mia every day, he thought, he would be so happy.

The restaurant offered three meal options ranging from $10 to $20. Mia ordered two $20 combos and found a quiet corner for them to sit in.

Kevin immediately started eating ravenously. Halfway through, he noticed Mia watching him with interest and felt embarrassed. "Mrs. Wilson, why don’t you eat? The food is getting cold."

"I’m not very hungry. A few bites will do," Mia said, pushing her tray towards Kevin. "Here, this is yours too. I only had a few bites. You don’t mind, do you?"

Kevin quickly shook his head. Sharing food was something close friends would do, and it made him happy that Mia didn’t see him as an outsider.

Watching Kevin devour both meals, Mia was surprised. She had thought he would leave some food. "Kevin, is that enough for you? Or would you like another serving?" "No, I’m okay," Kevin said, patting his stomach and burping. He blushed, feeling embarrassed in front of Mia. He worried that his eating manners might have put her off.

"Yeah. It looks like it. I’m glad. It’s our first time, and I’m glad you’re happy." Mia said with a smile, handing him a napkin to wipe his mouth. She seemed like an older sister taking care of her younger brother.

Kevin sat still as Mia wiped his mouth, feeling a warm sense of attachment for the first time. Previously, his feelings for Mia were mixed with desire, but now he cherished this tender moment. It struck him that even this kind of relationship would be nice. "Alright, let’s go." Mia said with a smile as she and Kevin left. Before that, she had bought two cups of iced cola and handed one to Kevin. They then strolled around the first floor of the supermarket.

Kevin quickly finished his cola and tossed the cup into a nearby trash can. He turned to Mia and said, "Mrs. Wilson, this cola is too cold, and it chills your hand. Let me hold it for you."

Mia paused for a moment before handing her cup to Kevin, smiling. "I didn’t realize you were such a gentleman. Have you dated before? How many girlfriends have you had?"

"No, never," Kevin quickly explained. His family had struggled financially in the past, and his mother often washed clothes in cold water during the winter, leaving her hands red and chapped. Kevin, feeling sorry for her, would often warm her hands. He later learned that women’s hands and feet needed to be kept warm to avoid long-term problems. So when he saw Mia holding the cold cola cup, he instinctively wanted to take it from her.

"Kevin, I didn’t realize you’ve had it tough. Your mother is truly admirable." Mia said, her eyes reddening slightly after hearing Kevin’s story. "Don’t fail her. And if I have the chance, I’d like to visit her."

"Really? Mia Wilson?" Kevin was stunned. Mia wanted to visit his mother. He couldn’t believe it.

"Of course. But I don’t mean anything else. I just want to see what kind of mother could raise such an outstanding son," Mia said with a gentle smile. She had her reasons for wanting to meet Kevin’s mother, which she couldn’t share with him.

Mia and Kevin continued chatting about his past life with his mother, sharing happy moments and tough times. Feeling thirsty, Mia reached for her cola, but Kevin had already brought the cup to her lips. Mia felt a bit embarrassed but took a sip, feeling as if she had returned to her college days when her boyfriend would pamper her.

Kevin watched as Mia’s red lips wrapped around the straw like a cute kitten drinking water. Such small gestures often brought them closer together.

Seeing Mia’s arms swinging casually at her sides, Kevin wanted to hold her hand like he did when they left the school gate. But he was afraid she might get angry. After hesitating for a while, he finally mustered the courage to grab her soft, smooth hand. His heart pounded as this was the first time he had held a girl’s hand. If Mia pulled away, he would be utterly embarrassed.

Mia was in the middle of sharing a funny college story when Kevin grabbed her hand. She paused, seeing Kevin’s nervous expression, and smiled. She didn’t pull away but continued her story, acting as if nothing had happened.

Although she didn’t want too much physical intimacy with Kevin, maintaining a strict boundary of friendship wasn’t realistic either. Holding hands was Mia’s bottom line. As long as Kevin didn’t push further, she was okay with keeping the warm atmosphere.

Seeing that Mia accepted his gesture. He couldn’t focus on what she was saying; his entire attention was on their clasped hands.
