Chapter 1362: 1279 Noisy Night

Before the second officer could finish his question, a bullet struck him, and other special forces soldiers began firing. Several guards in the corridor and people who had accidentally walked out were hit and fell to the ground.

“Ah!” Finally, a female officer, splattered with blood, collapsed in the doorway of her office, letting out a piercing scream.

It was that scream that finally broke through the roar of the generator outside, alerting the Qin Country officers in the room that something serious was happening.

The adjutant who had just helped Ying An pick up the candle on the table heard the shout from outside. He paused slightly, then walked towards the door with displeasure.

This is the command center! How can there be such loud noise? Is there no discipline left? Who’s the fool? He was completely unaware of the gravity of the situation. After all, this was the Central Army’s headquarters.

There were hundreds of soldiers outside, and probably hundreds of officers and clerical staff in this building. What could possibly happen? Could someone really break in?

As these thoughts ran through his mind, he reached the door, pressed his hand on the doorknob, and pushed it open with a slight force, making a clicking sound.

As soon as his head poked out from the door frame, a bullet struck the frame, sending splinters flying before his eyes, scaring him into pulling his head back sharply.

The candlestick in his hand also fell to the ground, and he sat down hard on the carpet, staring in shock at the bullet hole on the door frame.

“What’s going on? A mutiny?” Even at this point, he didn’t consider the possibility of an enemy attack. He thought there was a commotion among the troops, and a commanding officer had drawn a handgun in the command center.

Ying An, sitting behind the desk, looked up, the engine’s roar still ringing in his ears. It couldn’t be helped; the machines outside were too noisy, and the door’s soundproofing was better.

Although he didn’t know what was happening, seeing his adjutant sitting back into the room made him frown. But before he could speak, the sound of sudden gunfire erupted in the corridor in the next second.

“Bang!” This was the sound of the small and exquisite PPK handgun favored by Qin Country officers. Hearing the gunshot, Ying An immediately realized… something major was happening.

According to the plan, he was supposed to leave here tomorrow to oversee the defense of the old capital. He was to travel with the chief of staff, the commander of the 2nd Armored Corps, logistics officers, a guard regiment, and several senior officers.

This was communicated through top-level encrypted messages and was a direct order from Emperor Qin Ying Duo. It’s understandable that part of the message might leak during his preparations for departure, but it couldn’t have reached the Tang Army so quickly.

And besides… in the middle of the night, amidst countless troops… could Tang Army soldiers really fly over here?

Countless speculations flashed through Ying An’s mind for an instant, but he instinctively dismissed the idea of Tang Country troops reaching him.

Unfortunately, his fantasy shattered within seconds. At the doorway, a hand appeared suddenly, clad in a black glove, with a watch on the wrist that didn’t reflect the indoor light.

The hand flashed momentarily, and a cylindrical grenade was tossed into the room. Ying An instinctively reached for the drawer, where there was a PPK pistol.

But before he could touch the drawer handle, there was a muffled “thump,” and his vision turned completely white.

His mind went blank as if he was in a car accident, seeing only white, white, endless white. His ears were filled with a constant buzz, like ten thousand bees were flying around his room.

Ying An didn’t even know how to control his body, unsure if he had stood up or where exactly his arms were.

Meanwhile, the Tang Army’s armed helicopters had already begun suppressing all nearby fire points. The nose cannon, in coordination with the pilot’s night vision device, had already scattered the Qin Army on the ground.

No one knew what was happening, and no one even realized a Tang Army unit had infiltrated the command center.

The Qin Army stationed outside was struggling to fight back, attempting to repel the Tang Army’s armed helicopters hovering above them.

The battle was so intense that no one noticed the dazzling flash in the Supreme Commander’s room inside the command center.

The flash was fleeting, while the handguns and suppressed assault rifles inside the building were drowned out by the machine guns and cannons outside.

“Enemy attack! Enemy attack!” a Qin Army officer shouted, waving his arms and yelling at his disoriented subordinates: “Fire at the sky! Open fire! Open fire! Where are the spotlights? Where are the spotlights?”

With his questioning, the lights in the entire camp went out once again. The backup power was cut off too, and the noisy generators were silenced completely after being hit by a rocket.

Inside the building, the Tang Army special forces had already pulled Ying An from his position. He was incapable of any resistance; his body hadn’t regained control yet.

The shock bomb was indeed highly effective against those unprepared. Ying An was now like a shell without a soul, completely at the mercy of the Tang Army.

Two special forces operatives used plastic straps to bind Ying An’s thumbs, a method much more effective than handcuffs.

They held the Qin Country General on both sides, pulling him outside. Meanwhile, another operative used a handgun to finish off Ying An’s adjutant, who was writhing on the floor.

There was no choice; the helicopter couldn’t carry so many prisoners, so all the senior Qin Army officers here had to be dealt with.

“The chief of staff of the central group is not in the command center! He’s said to have left temporarily,” another group confirmed the mission’s failure over the headset.

No one could help the unexpected departure, later learning that the chief of staff had an affair with a noble lady from the former Dahua Kingdom, sneaking away for a final affectionate farewell.

The result was that because of this affair, he escaped the “decapitation” action intended for him. Unwilling to linger, the Tang Army special forces immediately took the still grunting Ying An back to the already devastated courtyard.

The Hind Armed Helicopter was continuously circling in the sky, occasionally spraying a string of rockets at distant targets.

A Black Hawk Helicopter landed in the courtyard, while several other helicopters hovered, dropping ropes from the air.
