Mummy Evolution -
Chapter 118 - 118: Lesson from his Family (1/4)
In the Past.
"Sett, Sett. If you carry me on your back, this princess will be very pleased."
"Shut the fuck up and walk, Nadia."
The three of them—Sett, Nadia, and Ismera—trudged through the blistering heat. Sweat clung to their foreheads, their lips dry and cracked under the relentless desert sun.
They had been walking for what felt like forever.
"You would've carried Zainah, you bastard!"
Sett's eyelid twitched. "Grandma, why the hell did you bring her along?"
Ismera smiled. "Your mother insisted."
Nadia scowled, her red hair practically igniting. "What, you don't want me anymore? I knew it, Sett—"
"Blah, blah, blah, blah." Sett cut her off with a mocking tone, but at the same time, he pulled her onto his back. "You never shut up once you start blaming me. Just climb already."
Nadia grinned and kissed his cheek. "Good little boy."
"Do you want me to bury you in this sand?"
"Of course not, darling."
"Then shut up."
Nadia pouted, then turned to Ismera. "Hey, old hen, what did Sett's mother say about me?"
Ismera's golden eyes narrowed.
"That kid Zainah is much more pleasing to the eye, Sett. She was far more respectful."
"Cry about it," Nadia sneered.
Ismera became speechless. Should I show her what it means to respect her seniors?
Sett chuckled, though inwardly, he sweated on Nadia's behalf. She was too brash—if his grandmother becomes irritated, she will be scary.
Nadia ignored Ismera and focused on her darling.
Who cares what this old hen thinks?
Zainah is bettter?
Ptew, ptew, prew. Like hell she is better than me.
Nadia silently admired Sett's looks.
After Sett and Ismera returned to the capital to rest, he had spent an entire week with his mother. As always, he walked with her, told stories about his time away from the capital, and learned from her.
But unfortunately for Sett, Neilara Ramses was too busy to spend all her time with him. After a week, she sent him off on another Tomb Raiding expedition.
Neilara had sent him off with a grand ball in the palace. But before sending him away with Ismera for their odyssey, she also forced Nadia into the party for some unknown reason.
My mother in law is much better than my grandmother in law, Nadia thought smugly. On the other hand, this granny is too much.
She was so old, yet still so hot.
My Sett admires powerful women too much. Nadia leaned forward and bit Sett's cheek.
"So Sett, I met this one girl when I went to Western Deserts."
"Oh? Is she cute?"
"Yes, very cute. You'd probably like her a lot. Like, she looks a lot similar to you for some reason, but with different hair color and eyes. And she is like, really a scaredy cat but also very intelligent. I kind of thought she was perfect for you."
Sett's eyes lit up.
"And?"
"I can introduce you to her when we go back."
"Good girl," Sett praised. "It's not for naught that I spoil you."
"Of course. Not for free. I already don't get you enough, so if you want me to add another women in your ever-expanding harem, be willing to spend a few weeks in my bed."
"You don't really have to ask for that… you know?"
"Yeah, then why weren't you in my bed since so long?"
Sett felt a bit guilty.
That was one of the problems with having a harem—you would end up neglecting some women if they didn't come to you on their own.
Am I neglecting anyone?
Or maybe not.
They are neglecting me as well. I only saw Nadia and Zainah in the capital. Damn, why is everyone so busy recently?
Sett sighed as he walked.
Nadia smiled and looked at Ismera again.
The grandmother's expression was not that good—she had a strained smile. She didn't seem to like Nadia very much. The feeling was mutual.
"We are here," Ismera suddenly said.
Sett's ears perked up. "I don't see anything, and the temperature is not colder..."
"We are not going into a Tomb."
They were still in the middle of nowhere, the desert stretching endlessly beneath the unrelenting blaze of the sun. Waves of heat shimmered above the golden dunes, distorting the horizon into a mirage of shifting illusions. The wind howled across the barren wasteland, whipping up grains of sand that stung against their skin.
Ismera crouched down, running her fingers through the scorching sand. She closed her eyes, her expression sharpening in concentration.
Then, without hesitation, she clenched her fist and drove it into the earth.
BOOM!
The ground trembled. A low, guttural rumble rose from beneath the dunes as the desert recoiled from her force. The sand began to shift, collapsing inward as something massive stirred beneath.
From the depths of the earth, the sharp peak of a pyramid emerged, its sun-scorched stone glistening as it shed centuries of concealment.
Ismera raised her fist again and struck with precise force.
Cracks splintered through the exposed peak before it caved inward, revealing a dark, gaping entrance beneath. A wave of cool, stale air rushed out, laced with the scent of ancient stone and undisturbed time.
Without hesitation, she leapt inside.
Sett followed her in, landing powerfully against brick ground. Nadia left his back, her crimson gaze roaming around.
She was in awe of the place.
The only light in the dark space came from the jagged hole they had made above, where sunlight streamed down in slanted beams, illuminating floating dust particles that danced in the air.
Towering statues lined the chamber, each one carved with unsettling precision. The sculptors had captured every wrinkle, every furrowed brow, every sharp cheekbone with eerie detail. The expressions varied—some calm and dignified, others stern and watchful.
"Wow, what lifelike statues," Nadia said in awe, leaving Sett's back to look around.
"Where is this?" Sett asked. "This does not seem like a Tomb."
"This is not a Tomb," Ismera confirmed. "This is an ancestral ground."
"Ancestral ground?"
"Yes, here is where we, of the Ramses Family, bury our ancestors. These statues around us, are in fact, the statues of our ancestors." She looked around, then pointed at an empty base. "When I die, I will also be buried here and a statue with my face will be erected right there."
