Chapter 119: Danzo’s Death
Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Danzo’s Death
"Kagami, come to hell with me! Four Symbols Sealing Technique!"
Black blood burst from Danzo’s body as he glared at Kagami with a twisted, feral expression.
"I’ll drag you down with me! I am the root of Konoha—I won’t let you endanger it!"
But just as he lunged forward, the Uchiha before him vanished with a bang. A Shadow Clone.
Danzo froze. The realization struck him too late.
"No...!"
A wave of despair washed over him as the sealing technique consumed his body. He collapsed to the ground, his final moments filled with bitterness and unwillingness.
From a distance, Fugaku and Shisui watched in silence. Despite everything, witnessing Danzo’s suicide brought a strange sense of melancholy.
All their interactions with Danzo had been adversarial, but still—it felt like the end of an era.
Only Uchiha Kagami looked faintly emotional.
"People really do change... Danzo, you weren’t always like this." Kagami murmured, his voice tinged with sadness. "And did you really think I wouldn’t recognize the Four Symbols Seal? Especially after working so closely with the Uzumaki clan? This... this is all your own doing."
The Root had been completely dismantled. Most of its members were either killed or captured. The Uchiha, remarkably, suffered no casualties—only a few serious injuries. Given the sneak attack by Danzo and the threat from the Hidden Cloud, this battle could only be described as a resounding victory.
"Senior Kagami," Fugaku said, finally approaching. "You’ve been gone from the clan for so long. What have you been doing all this time?"
Kagami smiled faintly. "I’ve been recovering from injuries in a special dimension created by our ancestor, Master Xiuyu. When the clan hits a bottleneck, you can reach out to me. But I’ll tell you this—the clan’s gotten too lax lately. If Master Xiuyu returns and sees the current state, he’ll be furious."
Fugaku and Shisui lowered their heads like scolded students, unable to refute the criticism.
"Master Xiuyu and Master Madara have been gone for so many years..." Fugaku said hesitantly. "There haven’t been any... accidents, have there?"
Even the younger members of the Uchiha were curious. These legendary figures loomed large in their clan’s history.
Kagami chuckled softly. "Ah, youth. You really think such power could be snuffed out so easily?"
He gazed at them with knowing eyes.
"You kids have no idea what kind of monsters our ancestors are. You think the Uchiha and the Uzumaki have remained safe all these years on their own strength? No. It’s because of the protection and legacy those two left behind."
"But... even legends fall eventually," Shisui muttered. "Our clan has passed down stories of the Sage of Six Paths. If someone like him could die, doesn’t that mean Master Xiuyu and Master Madara could suffer the same fate?"
Kagami raised an eyebrow. "Who said the Sage of Six Paths is dead?"
Shisui and Fugaku’s eyes widened in shock.
"Wait... you mean—?"
Kagami nodded. "Master Xiuyu once told me—he’s certain the Sage of Six Paths still exists, silently watching over this world."
Though he spoke casually, the revelation dropped like a thunderclap.
"Still," Kagami added, "you don’t need to worry. The Sage doesn’t meddle in mortal affairs. He’s guarding against threats far beyond our understanding. And as for our ancestors... when they left the Ninja World, they were already nearing the Sage’s level. By now? They’re likely his equal—if not stronger."
—
Meanwhile, deep in the realm of the dead...
"That boy knows quite a lot. Not surprising, I suppose. He is Uchiha Xiuyu’s junior."
A ghostly figure floated in the void—none other than the soul of the Sage of Six Paths.
"Still, they have no idea how truly abnormal Xiuyu’s strength is. Since his arrival in this world, so much has deviated from the cycle I envisioned. Even the eternal conflict between Indra and Asura has shifted..."
He sighed, the weight of the world heavy even in death.
"This world stands at the edge of chaos. And the one causing ripples now... isn’t even the Madara of this world. It’s an Indra from another timeline entirely."
"A time of trouble indeed..."
The Sage closed his eyes once more. Outside of the threat posed by the Ōtsutsuki, nothing else could shake his will.
—
Back in the present...
"Senior Kagami," Shisui asked, "if you’ve been alive all this time, why didn’t you return to Konoha?"
Kagami turned to him with a complicated look. "Because walking these streets with this face... might’ve stirred old memories. Might’ve caused a stir that wasn’t worth the risk."
Then, his tone hardened. "Besides, Shisui, it’s not your job to worry about the village’s relationship with the clan. Those decisions rest with Master Xiuyu —or Master Madara. Focus on your own path. That’s what matters."
Shisui bowed. "Thank you for the advice. I nearly lost myself to Danzo’s manipulations. I won’t make that mistake again."
Kagami nodded. "Your victory may have turned the tide today, but more trouble is coming. Danzo’s death won’t go unanswered. Sarutobi Hiruzen might make a move against the Uchiha."
He tossed a kunai to Shisui.
"Show this to Hiruzen when the time comes. He’ll understand. I won’t pretend I don’t hold grudges, but I don’t think he’ll cause trouble—at least not openly."
Then he turned to Fugaku. "Your Yang-Tsukushi is growing stronger. I assume Master Xiuyu helped you awaken it? Keep training. As clan head, you should already know—the Sharingan has its limits. Strengthen the Yang-Tsukushi, and the Sharingan will benefit in turn."
"You both have bright futures. Make the most of them."
With that, Kagami vanished once again.
—
Konoha erupted in celebration.
News of the victory spread fast. The Raikage had been defeated. The two-tailed Jinchuriki were captured by Fugaku, and Killer Bee, the eight-tailed host, was already on his way to the village. Most astonishing of all: every bit of credit belonged solely to the Uchiha clan. No other Konoha forces had intervened.
The village cheered in relief—happy to avoid another war, proud of the overwhelming strength on display.
But not everyone shared the joy.
—
In the Hokage’s office, Sarutobi Hiruzen leaned back, puffing leisurely on his pipe. His advisors, Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane, were anything but relaxed.
"Sarutobi!" Koharu snapped. "Did you hear the reports? The Uchiha crushed the enemy in just days! Even with the full Anbu, we’d never pull that off. And you’re sitting here like nothing’s wrong?!"
Sarutobi exhaled a puff of smoke, calm as ever. "Isn’t that a good thing? The Uchiha won. Our conflict with Kumogakure is resolved. Their strength is Konoha’s strength."
"You’ve lost your mind!" Homura shouted. "That’s Uchiha! We’ve been suppressing them for years! Now they’ve gained too much power—and they will come for us!"
He was panicking now. The political policies that once kept the Uchiha boxed in had handed him years of influence and benefits. But the tide had turned. And with Danzo gone, retribution might be inevitable.
The balance of power in Konoha was shifting—and fast.
-----------------------
"Although the Uchiha have been under some pressure from the village, they wouldn’t act so radically. Mitokado, you’re worrying too much," Sarutobi Hiruzen said calmly, puffing on his pipe.
"Foolishness! Hiruzen, it’s easy for you to say that. Do you really believe the Uchiha won’t come after us for what we’ve done?" Mitokado Homura snapped, clearly dissatisfied with Sarutobi’s indifference.
"Are you worried they’ll only come after you, Shouldn’t you be happy about the Uchiha’s victory? After all, it’s a victory for Konoha too."
"Sarutobi, what kind of logic is that? Of course Konoha’s victory is a good thing, but what does that have to do with the Uchiha wanting revenge?"
"I have to say, perhaps I’ve let you two act with too much freedom," Hiruzen replied, his tone sharpening. "Homura, Koharu—go home. The Uchiha will arrive soon, and I need to head to the village gates to welcome our heroes."
The tip of Sarutobi’s pipe glowed faintly as he took a deep drag, his expression unreadable. No one could tell what exactly was going through the old Hokage’s mind.
---
At Konoha’s gates, the returning Uchiha squad wasn’t particularly large. Most who had gone to battle were elite clan members. Even Itachi had been brought along by Fugaku, his father, to gain experience and broaden his horizons.
Although Itachi had witnessed the end of the Third Great Ninja War when he was young, the intensity of that experience paled in comparison. This time, he had faced none other than the Raikage himself, as well as the Eight-Tails and Two-Tails Jinchuriki. These were top-tier opponents, the kind who forged true growth in battle.
To Fugaku’s surprise, the village had prepared a proper welcoming party—led personally by Sarutobi Hiruzen. As for Shisui, he was absent. Publicly, he was still listed as missing. Without an official mission from the Hokage authorizing his absence, it would have been inappropriate for him to appear now.
"Welcome home, heroes!" Sarutobi called out warmly.
Alongside a few Anbu, a large crowd of villagers had gathered to greet the victorious Uchiha. Over the years, while the clan’s reputation within the administration had suffered, their image among ordinary villagers remained relatively neutral—if not respectful.
Perhaps because many Uchiha had refused roles in the Police Force lately, there had been less friction with civilians. In the eyes of the average villager, the Uchiha were still an unmatched clan—aloof, powerful, and a bit mysterious.
Among younger ninjas, especially recent Academy graduates, the Uchiha were revered. Many remembered their Uchiha teachers—brilliant, sharp, and strict. Teams mentored by Uchiha were often more solid in fundamentals, had a clearer vision for the future, and knew a wider variety of jutsu. Though best known for their fire-style techniques, the Uchiha possessed an expansive jutsu archive.
Most ordinary shinobi might only learn a handful of jutsu in their lives. Under Uchiha mentorship, students learned much more.
Fugaku stepped forward. "We appreciate the effort, Lord Third. Thank you for welcoming us."
Hiruzen offered a small smile. "You’ve done a great service for Konoha. It’s only right that you’re welcomed properly."
The villagers whispered among themselves as the Uchiha passed by. It wasn’t just their strength—Fugaku and his kin were strikingly handsome, as usual. The Uchiha clan had always been known for their exceptional appearance, generation after generation. While strength could be difficult to perceive, beauty was easy to admire.
---
Later, in the Hokage’s office, Fugaku and Sarutobi sat in silence, listening to the faint cheers still echoing through the village.
"Are the Eight-Tails and Two-Tails secure?" Hiruzen finally asked.
"They’ve been sealed using Uzumaki clan techniques. Very safe," Fugaku replied simply.
"And the negotiations with Kumogakure?"
Fugaku gave a slight scoff. "Hiruzen, I’ll be honest. You need to be tougher. We won this war. Stop being so damn cautious. You’re old now—so I get it—but don’t let them walk all over you."
Alone in the room, Fugaku didn’t bother to sugarcoat his words. Sarutobi’s age was showing, and his strength had declined. Fugaku, meanwhile, was at his prime.
Sarutobi knew the truth. There was no way Uchiha Fugaku had gone up against Kumogakure alone. Numbers didn’t matter when facing overwhelming power—every Hokage before him had proven that.
"You don’t have anything else to tell me?" Sarutobi asked quietly.
Fugaku’s expression didn’t change. "Danzo is dead."
Sarutobi’s hand trembled, his pipe nearly slipping from his fingers. He hadn’t expected it—Danzo, gone just like that. The man had always been a shadow behind the scenes, but he was still a comrade. They had grown old together.
"How?"
"After the battle with Kumogakure ended, Danzo ambushed us. I nearly died. If not for an Uchiha elder intervening, I wouldn’t be here. Danzo was defeated and died from the Four Symbols Seal he had planted on himself."
Sarutobi sat in stunned silence. His thoughts were murky, filled with a deep sense of loss rather than rage.
"This belonged to our elder," Fugaku continued, handing over a shuriken. "He told me to give it to you—you’d remember him."
Sarutobi took the shuriken with trembling hands. The markings on it were old, but familiar. His eyes widened slightly.
"...Kagami? Uchiha Kagami is still alive?"
He slumped back into his chair, stunned.
"No wonder Danzo died. Against him, Danzo didn’t stand a chance."
Memories flooded back. Sarutobi and Kagami had trained together under Tobirama. Kagami had been a shining star—modest, noble by birth, a genius in every way. Trained by Uchiha Xiuyu himself, Kagami was once seen as the hope of the Uchiha.
A man like that wouldn’t lie.
If it had been Fugaku alone telling this story, Hiruzen might have doubted it. But if Kagami was involved? That changed everything.
"Why didn’t he come back?" Sarutobi asked, almost to himself.
"I don’t know," Fugaku said. "But I heard that during their battle, it was Danzo who struck first."
"...I see."
Sarutobi seemed to age several years in that moment. He had turned a blind eye to Danzo’s darker actions—his secret experiments, his manipulations, his suppression of clans. Even when Danzo forced Orochimaru out of the village, Sarutobi did nothing.
Because, deep down, Sarutobi had believed Danzo had good intentions—however twisted.
He had always justified Danzo’s actions. The ninja clans had grown too powerful. The Uzumaki were stubborn. The Uchiha refused to bend. Danzo’s role had been to keep balance... or so Sarutobi told himself.
But now? Now Danzo had been crushed by the very clan he tried to suppress. And not even by the current generation—by Kagami, someone who had hidden in the shadows for decades.
Far away, in another dimension, Kagami probably didn’t think much of it. He hadn’t returned to the village not because of shame or principle, but because he was studying ninjutsu and Yang Release techniques. He never considered Danzo worth the effort. If anything, he had looked down on him all these years.
If Kagami were here, he’d likely scoff at Sarutobi’s thoughts. He hadn’t gone after Danzo before because he didn’t need to.
Why bother crushing an ant unless it bites you?
And when it does—you crush it.
