Chapter 120 - 120 116 Holding Hands

Chapter 120: Chapter 116: Holding Hands Chapter 120: Chapter 116: Holding Hands Lu Jingyan saw the comments from netizens on her own website, Emotion.

She always felt there was something odd about what Sheng Xian said, but before she could figure it out, several alerts popped up on her phone.

They were private message notifications from Emotion, and she clicked on them casually.

That garbled code that hadn’t appeared for a long time showed up again.

Garbled Code: “Lu Jingyan, living quite well, aren’t you?”

The garbled code sent a photo.

Lu Jingyan held her breath as she opened it, the photo showed her and Sheng Xian standing at the entrance of a cinema.

Garbled Code: “Is this your new boyfriend?”

Garbled Code: “Does he know about those things from your past?”

Her phone kept dinging nonstop, and Lu Jingyan saw photo after photo jumping into her private messages.

She didn’t enlarge those photos, yet she could recognize that they were all of her, starkly different from her usual self – not bright and beautiful, not clean and pleasant, but disheveled, disgraceful, and filthy.

“What’s wrong?” Sheng Xian’s voice came.

Lu Jingyan snapped back to reality and quickly pressed her phone’s screen off, shaking her head at Sheng Xian, “It’s nothing, just an advertisement.”

Sheng Xian grunted and didn’t speak.

Lu Jingyan slowly turned to look out the window, she spaced out for a while, then lowered her head to light up the screen, entering the password.

Ever since she had physically confronted Bo Mu, she had not received any more private messages from the garbled code.

She had thought that Bo Mu had been chastised by her and had become honest.

Now she was a bit worried that she had been mistaken.

Lu Jingyan thought for a moment, opened Emotion’s search function, and typed in Bo Mu’s name.

Bo Mu had posted on Weibo two hours ago: “Waiting to go on stage.”

The post had nine pictures, all selfies she took backstage at some radio station.

Bo Mu was not in Beijing, but in City C, over a thousand kilometers away from Beijing.

Lu Jingyan searched for tonight’s programs in City C and, sure enough, there was a performance by Bo Mu’s girl group around ten o’clock.

It was already half-past midnight when she got home. Because of the garbled message, Lu Jingyan said goodnight to Sheng Xian and went back to her room early.

She didn’t play with her phone, took a bath, and then burrowed into her bedding and closed her eyes.

As expected, she had nightmares again that night.

Perhaps influenced by the images sent by the garbled code, the frames in her dream that night felt very real, as if she were experiencing them firsthand.

She had never been afraid before, but that was the first time she understood what fear was.

Surrounding her were sounds of laughter, abuse, and crying, these sounds mingled together and drove her to despair.

She wanted to escape, but every time she tried, she was pulled back. She saw no hope; in the darkness, the crying and pleading terrified and suffocated her. She didn’t know how long it lasted, but eventually, the crying and pleading stopped, and the dream became completely quiet. Yet, she grew even more fearful, as if her psychological defenses had been completely shattered, she began to scream for help desperately.

She desperately wanted to wake up from this dream, but it felt as though someone was pressing down on her heavily, and she couldn’t wake up no matter what.

Tears began to stream down her face as she panicked and struggled, trying to grab hold of something. She reached out several times, grasping at nothing, and amid her sobs, she tried again to reach forward. She grabbed onto some soft fabric, and almost without hesitation, as if she had found a lifeline, she lunged in the direction she had grabbed something and clung tightly.

…Save me.

She opened her mouth, but couldn’t make any sound except cry.

She cried for who knows how long, vaguely hearing someone calling her.

“Ayan.”

“Ayan.”

“Ayan.”

She trembled her eyelashes, blankly opening her eyes.

The room was dimly lit, decorated in a style that was very familiar. She stared blankly for a few seconds, then her eyes moved to the opposite mirror.

She was tightly hugging Sheng Xian’s neck, with her upper body buried in his embrace.

He stood by the bed, bent over by her grasp.

The place where her face was buried was wet, she paused a moment, then realized it was damp from her tears.

She opened her mouth, finding her throat extremely hoarse, “I…”

She spoke one word, then stopped, took a deep breath, and slowly loosened her arms.

Sheng Xian straightened up, didn’t speak, and walked out of the room.

He didn’t close the door, and the light from the living room streamed in, making the bedroom much brighter. Through the mirror, she clearly saw her own face, her eyelashes wet, her eyes severely swollen.

She pulled a tissue from beside, thinking of wiping her face when Sheng Xian came back with a glass of water.

He closed the door to the master bedroom and handed the water to her.

Lu Jingyan took the water and drank almost half a cup, his voice hoarse from crying became a bit more comfortable, “Thanks.”

Sheng Xian took the cup and placed it on the table next to him.

Lu Jingyan sat up straight and checked the time on his phone—it was half past three in the morning, “Did I wake you up?”

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

Sheng Xian hesitated.

Lu Jingyan realized that this was Sheng Xian’s house, this room was Sheng Xian’s room, and he had taken over his room, “Did you come to get something and just happened to find me having a nightmare?”

Sheng Xian stared at him for a while and then gave a soft “Hmm.”

After a pause, Sheng Xian asked, “What nightmare did you have?”

Lu Jingyan let out a sigh and randomly said, “I dreamt that a group of monsters were chasing me, wanting to eat me.”

Sheng Xian, not knowing if he saw through his fib, silently asked after a while, “Still sleepy?”

Lu Jingyan shook his head lightly, “I won’t be sleeping for a while.”

Speaking of which, Lu Jingyan sighed, “I’m still very annoyed.”

Sheng Xian, “Annoyed with what?”

Lu Jingyan sighed again, looking even more troubled, “I did something wrong.”

Sheng Xian didn’t speak.

Lu Jingyan knew he was waiting for him to continue, “I misunderstood Bo Mu, I hit the wrong person that day, it’s so annoying. I still have to apologize to her, and I don’t want to at all. Just seeing her annoys me.”

“She might even mock me.”

“It’s not a might; she will definitely mock me.”

“How could she possibly pass up such an opportunity.”

Lu Jingyan sighed heavily again, “I really don’t want to apologize to her, I wish I could just ignore the mistake.”

He fell silent for a while, kicked the blanket, and then irritably said, “Forget it, I’ll have to apologize sooner or later. Whether she forgives me is her business, but I still have to apologize.”

Sheng Xian watched the troubled and conflicted girl, and suddenly she overlapped with the her from his memories.

This little girl in front of him was too gentle.

Even if many years had passed and they met again, her character had changed drastically, bearing no trace of her former self, yet, aside from these superficial changes, her heart was still the gentle one.

Sheng Xian watched her silently for a while and, seeing her yawn sleepily, his eyes flickered slightly before he spoke softly, “I’ll go with you.”

Lu Jingyan yawned again, a tear spilling from his eyes, “Huh?”

“Didn’t you say you needed to apologize?” Sheng Xian said carelessly, “I’ll go with you.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really.”

Lu Jingyan gave Sheng Xian a look and understood, “Are you trying to record it?”

Sheng Xian, “… ”

“So you can use it to threaten me, or mock me, or else…”

Sheng Xian sighed quietly, leaned over to pull the blanket over him, and gently patted his head, “Stop guessing, I just saw you were tired and wanted you to sleep.”

Lu Jingyan awkwardly buried his head under the blanket.

After two seconds, he slightly parted the blanket just enough to show his eyes, “Are you leaving?”

“No,” Sheng Xian pulled up a chair and sat beside him, “Sleep.”

Lu Jingyan uttered a sound, then closed his eyes.

The room was very quiet, and although he was sleepy, he wasn’t quite able to fall asleep. He quietly opened his eyes and glanced at Sheng Xian.

He was sitting beside him, looking at his phone, probably to avoid disturbing his sleep, the screen brightness was turned down very low.

Lu Jingyan hid his face under the blanket, smiled with his lips curled, then turned over, his hand accidentally touching Sheng Xian’s carelessly placed hand on the bed.

He pulled back as if electrocuted and sneaked another glance at Sheng Xian.

He remained calm, as if he hadn’t noticed his touch at all.

Lu Jingyan remembered the cinema where he had grabbed his hand too, but unfortunately, he was too occupied with being scared and other things then, he didn’t remember the sensation at all.

He bit his lower lip and moved his hand casually toward Sheng Xian’s hand.

His fingers lingered beside Sheng Xian’s for a few seconds before retracting as if electrified.

After about ten seconds, he pretended to be restless in sleep and stretched his hand toward Sheng Xian, this time going too far, directly landing on his hand. He was startled for a moment and was about to pull his hand away when his wrist was suddenly grasped.

Then, he felt a hand move along his wrist and down, clasping his hand.
