Chapter 117 - 117 113 Watching a Movie
Chapter 117: Chapter 113 Watching a Movie Chapter 117: Chapter 113 Watching a Movie Lu Jingyan suddenly opened his eyes.
He had gone to bed late last night without drawing the curtains, and the sunlight streaming through the clean windows made the room bright and clear.
Lu Jingyan stared at the ceiling, dazed, until his mind gradually started functioning again.
That incident had happened a long time ago, and over the years, he seldom touched the memories because they scared him.
Beyond some images he could never forget, he couldn’t recall many of the trivial details, so much so that his first reaction to the dream he just had was that he must have made it up.
Lu Jingyan tried hard to recall, and finally dredged up that scene from the depths of his memory.
It had really happened.
That tall boy, after she spoke those words, lifted his eyelids two seconds late, shifting his gaze from her hand gripping his backpack to her face.
He looked down at her from overtop and said after two seconds, “Let go.”
Her fingers loosened subconsciously and then she quickly tightened her grip again.
The two of them were at an impasse for a moment before he turned with a hint of impatience and walked toward the curb.
She grabbed his backpack and followed him to the roadside.
Unclear about his intentions and wondering whether to plead with him again, he raised his hand and hailed a taxi, bent down to open the door, and stepped aside, “Get in.”
She stood there, uncertain, and asked, “Brother, are you agreeing to take me to the hospital?”
Ignoring her question, his indifferent eyes grew another layer colder, almost irritated, as he lowered his head and said to the driver in front, “Go to the nearest hospital.”
Upon hearing this, she quickly stepped forward and got into the car.
He followed her in, closed the door, and then turned to look at her hand, “Can you let go now?”
She didn’t grasp what he meant and responded with a puzzled “Huh?”
“Forget it,” he said, turning his head to look out the car window.
It wasn’t until the car stopped at the hospital entrance that she finally realized and let go of his hand and got out of the car, “Brother, which school and class are you in? I’ll bring the cab fare to you another day.”
“No need,” he said, glancing at the backpack she had tugged at. After a two-second silence, he followed her out of the taxi, “I was actually coming to the hospital too, so it was on the way.”
After that day, she hadn’t gone to school for quite a while.
A lot had happened during that time; her mind was a jumbled mess every day, and she simply couldn’t spare a thought for that tall boy.
Later on, she transferred schools and deliberately chose to forget many things.
…
Lu Jingyan blinked, pulling his thoughts back from the memories.
At that time, why didn’t she stop that boy and ask for his name?
Lu Jingyan lay in bed for a while longer, assuring himself that it really was the last encounter he ever had with that boy, before struggling to rise from bed and enter the bathroom.
After freshening up, Lu Jingyan opened his door and heard the sound from the adjacent door.
He turned his head and saw Sheng Xian, who, like him, had only woken up in the late afternoon.
The two stood silently at their bedroom doors for a short while until Sheng Xian cleared his throat, “Morning.”
Lu Jingyan responded with a “Morning” and then, half a beat too late, thought to himself, morning my ass, it’s nearly evening.
Sheng Xian didn’t speak and headed to the living room.
Standing at the dining table with a kettle, he poured two cups of water and handed one to Lu Jingyan as he approached, “Help yourself to something to eat?”
On the first day of the new year, many restaurants are closed, leaving them to eat at home.
Lu Jingyan nodded, “Okay.”
Sheng Xian tipped back his head and drank a glass of water. His neck stretched long, and the Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed.
Lu Jingyan held her water cup and couldn’t help but take a few more glances, then thought of the Adam’s apple photography trend on some app that was very popular recently, and suddenly an image popped into her mind.
Sheng Xian put down his glass, making a very quiet sound.
Lu Jingyan was startled, feeling guilty, she lowered her head and turned around to silently drink water.
Oblivious to what she was imagining, Sheng Xian glanced at her and went into the kitchen.
After finishing the meal, Sheng Xian washed the dishes and stepped out of the kitchen, then he looked at Lu Jingyan, who was sitting cross-legged on the couch engrossed in the television, and asked, “Do you want to go watch a movie?”
Lu Jingyan, “What movie?”
Sheng Xian browsed on his phone for a while and said a name.
The movies playing these days were all New Year’s films; they were all the same, so Lu Jingyan was not picky, “Sure.”
The tickets for the first day of the lunar new year weren’t easy to get, but Sheng Xian was quite lucky; he secured tickets within minutes. The cinema was nice, and so were the seats.
With two hours until the movie started, they left home an hour early.
While riding the elevator downstairs, Lu Jingyan looked at Sheng Xian through the elevator’s mirror several times.
She always felt that Sheng Xian’s outfit today seemed familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
In Beijing, once the New Year arrives, it gets very quiet. The broad streets have few vehicles, and the usual one-hour drive can be completed in less than twenty minutes at this time.
At the mall where the cinema was located, there was still half an hour before the movie started.
The cinema was on the top floor, and they leisurely made their way from the first floor to the top.
Despite the streets not being crowded, the mall was quite busy. The milk tea shop Lu Jingyan usually loved even had a queue.
Since there was plenty of time, Lu Jingyan simply joined the queue, while Sheng Xian went to answer a call halfway through.
Lu Jingyan was a bit bored standing in line alone, idly looking around when her gaze inadvertently caught sight of Mu Chuci on the mall’s central electronic screen in an advertisement that flashed by.
She surprisingly felt that the clothes on Mu Chuci seemed familiar.
Just as she was trying to remember where she had seen them, the cashier suddenly asked, “What would you like to order?”
Lu Jingyan turned around and pointed to the menu saying, “Strawberry cheesecake milkshake, but replace the cheese with ice cream.”
Since Sheng Xian had not come back from his phone call, Lu Jingyan felt awkward eating by herself, and not knowing what Sheng Xian liked, she simply ordered another one in her own taste for him.
Having been interrupted like this, Lu Jingyan pushed the thought about Mu Chuci’s clothing to the back of her mind.
The milkshake was quickly prepared, and Sheng Xian had just ended his call; they continued upstairs.
At the cinema entrance, they collected their tickets and only waited two minutes before they started checking tickets.
They went in, found their seats, and sat down side by side.
The movie hadn’t started yet, and they were playing all sorts of advertisements, mostly movie trailers.
One of them was for the movie they were about to watch, and Lu Jingyan only then realized that the lead actor was Mu Chuci.
The advertisements looped for a full five minutes.
An advertisement lasted about twenty seconds, and Mu Chuci appeared on the screen about four times.
On the fourth appearance, Lu Jingyan, who was sipping her milkshake through the straw, blinked at Mu Chuci on the screen and belatedly realized why she found the clothes on Mu Chuci so familiar.
Because—
Lu Jingyan spit out her straw and slowly turned her head towards the person sitting next to her.
The person sitting next to her who was wearing the same style as Mu Chuci.
