Mrs Hale, I Surrender -
Chapter 99: Zoe, do you want me?
Chapter 99: Zoe, do you want me?
When Zoe Bell left the police station, she was surprised to see Kevin Bell chasing after her.
He seemed to have something to say and hesitated for a while before speaking, "About today’s incident, it’s quite embarrassing, actually... even though our relationships are severed, you’ve lived with us for many years, and you can still come home for meals when you are free."
A smile played at the corner of his mouth, clearly a gesture of conciliation.
Zoe had only seen him this affable when she first joined the Bell Family.
Her face showed no emotion as she simply said, "It’s better not to contact each other."
Kevin Bell’s expression stiffened, and he said no more.
Mina Bell was now completely ruined, and Lucas Bell was close to Zoe.
Especially since he thought of what William Hale had once said about treating the foster daughter kindly, he started to regret somewhat.
To try to make amends, it was already too late.
Moreover, Zoe didn’t believe he genuinely wanted to invite her over for a meal.
She feared he had ulterior motives.
It was said that Bell Group was nearly bankrupt.
Since Zoe was called away from the competition scene, everyone suspected that she might have made a secret deal with the organizing committee and got reported, resulting in...
Mina Bell getting arrested.
It was said that Ruben Fletcher stole the jewels and she was forced to assist.
This was definitely the Bell Family’s doing; they still wanted to save Mina Bell.
"Damn, why didn’t you involve me in such an entertaining mess?" Wyatt Hale said, pounding his chest upon hearing that Zoe was in trouble, feeling like he had missed out on a great drama.
"Always wanting to meddle in things, you’re an adult now, can’t you act like it?" Brock Hale frowned.
"I wanted to support my sister-in-law, fearing she might be bullied."
Brock Hale snorted.
His motives were written all over his face.
"It’d be good enough if you didn’t fan the flames."
Wyatt Hale was astonished, "Are the Bell Family stupid, why would they suspect my sister-in-law?"
"As parents, they have a filter towards their own children, not believing they would do anything wrong," Brock Hale said.
"Then why do you always suspect me whenever something goes wrong at home?" Wyatt asked in return.
"Because I have no such filter for you."
"So you’re not my real dad then."
"I am more clear-headed."
Wyatt Hale felt deeply hurt, and he had been very unlucky recently, his hard-earned money had flown away too.
One summer vacation, though he hadn’t made money, it wasn’t totally in vain.
At least he was tired.
Physically and mentally exhausted.
"Sister-in-law, with such a big incident in the Bell Family, they should be too busy to bother you nowadays," Wyatt Hale sighed, "I will be heading back to Capital City with my parents in a few days, I really worry about you."
"Beautiful times are always so fleeting."
Wyatt Hale was despised at home, but Zoe Bell was kind to him, calling her sister-in-law felt almost like she was a sister.
If he was unlucky, his biological and cousin brothers would just take turns laughing at him.
And let the whole family know about it.
Zoe, on the other hand, would comfort him saying it was nothing.
"You’re leaving?" Zoe was surprised.
"I have school starting soon."
Zoe actually quite liked Wyatt Hale, and upon hearing that he was leaving, her mood was noticeably down.
William Hale saw this, vaguely remembering when he first came to Larkhill, signed the agreement, and the next day said he was going back to Capital City, she visibly cheered up.
She really had strong feelings for this lousy kid.
When Wyatt Hale sensed his elder brother’s very unfriendly gaze, his back went cold.
What did I do wrong again?
Being liked is also my fault?
"Stop chatting, it’s time to eat." Lily Lott was cooking today, "Zoe, I tried making a few Greenland specialty dishes today, come and taste how they are?"
"Thank you, Aunt Lott, I won’t hold back then."
Brock Hale sat on one side, watching coldly.
Strangely enough, since the two had gone out for several beauty treatments and massages, their affection had gradually warmed up, and they were as close as sisters.
But when Zoe Bell saw him, she was still very polite.
——
On the last night before the three of them left, Zoe Bell cooked a full table of dishes.
Lily Lott sighed, "If you didn’t have to compete in a race soon, I’d really take you back to the Capital City with me."
"If you miss me, just call me," Zoe’s eyes curved into a smile, "If you’re free, I can also come to the Capital City to see you."
Lily agreed repeatedly, but she was also very reluctant to part ways.
During the meal, everyone drank a little wine.
Zoe Bell had made a fool of herself drinking last time and only sipped a few mouthfuls.
William Hale, on the other hand, drank quite a bit and after dinner, Brock pulled him into the study, saying they needed a father-and-son talk.
At Brock’s age, after drinking a bit of wine, he tended to talk more.
Looking at his son, he expressed, "I still remember when you were just born, so tiny, and now, in the blink of an eye, you’ve grown so much."
"And you’ve finally gotten married."
"I thought I might never see you marry and have children in this lifetime."
"If your mother were alive, to see how well I’ve raised you, she would be comforted."
William Hale frowned.
He wasn’t sure if the compliment was aimed at him or at his father himself.
"But what exactly is your situation now with that girl?" Brock stared at him, "Does she like you or not?"
"Dad, you’re talking too much."
"Don’t tell me it’s still just unrequited love on your part."
"..."
"You’re quite a handsome man, how could that girl not fancy you? Or perhaps, you’re just not her type? After all, aesthetic preferences can be quite subjective."
"You’ve had too much to drink."
"I’m very sober!"
"I heard that you had a fight with Aunt Lott last month? Got kicked out and ended up sleeping in your car outside the house for a night?"
Suddenly, Brock told him to get lost.
In this family, there really were no secrets!
When William Hale returned to the room, Zoe Bell had already finished bathing. Her nightgown was thin, clinging to her body as she bent down to grab something, revealing a slice of her slender waist.
With a long arm, he hooked around her waist, pulling her into his embrace; Zoe hadn’t even reacted when a series of delicate kisses landed on her ears.
Her earlobes were sensitive, and she couldn’t help but moan softly.
The voice was soft and enticing.
"Zoe..." His voice, slurred from alcohol, was deep and magnetic, echoing close to her ear, causing Zoe’s heart to race, her fingers involuntarily curling tight.
"What’s wrong?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to kiss you."
His voice was cool and thin, yet exceedingly gentle.
Zoe Bell just couldn’t handle his kind of contrast, and the kiss felt particularly prolonged, weaving through the air with a thread of warmth.
As she felt a coolness at her chest, she didn’t realize when her nightgown had been peeled away.
His warm, soft lips landed on her neck, trailing downward...
Her body trembled lightly.
"Mr. Hale."
"Scared?"
"A bit nervous, and also..." Zoe Bell bit her lip, "we don’t have that at home."
"What?"
"Just..." Zoe Bell was too embarrassed to say it outright, making William Hale suddenly realize, unable to suppress a laugh, his laughter boldly piercing into her heart.
"Zoe, do you want me?"
Zoe Bell’s face turned a fiery red at his words!
All this talk of wanting or not, wasn’t it just the mood they’d set?
