Chapter 503: 501 Mr. Hale is blessed with a daughter, may she be safe and sound each year as Vera wishes (2nd update)
Zoe was indeed in severe pain, so much so that she couldn’t hear what the midwife was saying. When she saw her mother, she simply said she didn’t want to give birth anymore and asked if they could just cut her open and get the baby out directly.
If she had known that natural childbirth was this painful, she would have opted for a C-section.
"Hang in there, Mom’s here with you." Julia gave her some water and held her hand tightly.
From 9 AM until past noon, the baby still hadn’t been born.
William Hale was extremely restless, pacing back and forth in the corridor, which caused Brock Hale to frown: "Can you be quiet!"
"I can’t help it."
Whenever he stood still, his mind would race with wild thoughts.
This one’s so troublesome, it must be a naughty little boy!
When he comes out, he’s definitely going to get a lesson from me.
"William, go check the labor ward and see if we’ve missed anything," Lily instructed him, and only then did William gradually calm down.
Zac Cruz even called, saying there was an urgent meeting.
William cursed him out.
His wife was about to give birth, and he wouldn’t care even if the company went bankrupt.
...
At 12:37 PM, Zoe heard the baby’s cry.
Soon, a nurse came out to announce the good news.
"Congratulations, both mother and daughter are safe. The baby weighs seven pounds and two ounces, very healthy."
William’s taut nerves suddenly relaxed, and he felt a bit dazed. He only asked, "How is my wife?"
"She’s fine, just a bit exhausted, still resting."
A girl?
From Old Sir Hale’s generation, there hadn’t been any girls in the Hale Family, three generations of boys. During Zoe’s pregnancy, she particularly craved sour foods, so Old Sir Hale had been prepared for a great-grandson.
But, as it turned out...
It was a baby girl.
He was stunned for a long time before bursting into laughter. Holding the Old Lady’s hands, he said, "Did you hear that? It’s a girl! Zoe really is our family’s lucky star. Ever since she joined our family, we’ve had one good thing after another."
Since there had never been a girl in the Hale Family, the little one had just been brought out and was immediately surrounded by enthusiastic onlookers. Tim, the uncle, wanted to take a look but couldn’t squeeze in at all. When the little one drank milk, a group of people gathered around, finding her endearing in every way.
When Zoe came out, her eyes were red, and her hair was slightly wet.
William went to kiss her cheek, causing her to frown and instinctively dodge, "Don’t touch, dirty."
"Not dirty, you’ve worked hard."
"Zoe, look how cute the baby is." At that moment, the baby was in Lily’s arms, brought next to her. Unlike Ivy who had little hair at birth, the little one had thick black hair and smooth skin, very cute.
And she had a noticeable bridge on her nose from birth.
Ivy had a flat nose.
This made Hannah Johnson and Isaac Shea envious when they came to visit.
Isaac clicked his tongue, "Some kids are good-looking right from the start."
Hannah frowned, "Are you saying Ivy is ugly?"
With a mother’s filter, Hannah thought Ivy was very beautiful.
"No, she’s very cute." Isaac, who had no place in the family, especially after Ivy came, wasn’t paid any attention to.
His parents had made it clear: their son was only interested in academic research, so they pinned their hopes on their grandchild.
The Hugh Family’s postnatal care was naturally his responsibility.
Thus, young Ivy was already bearing high expectations, destined to shoulder the burdens of both families in the future.
Out of concern for Zoe’s need to rest, visiting hours were kept brief. Other than that, Old Sir Hale couldn’t stay idle at home, and when he got bored, he would call relatives and friends everywhere to brag about having a great-granddaughter.
Everyone offered their congratulations.
Only Old Sir Shaw, after hanging up the phone, kicked his grandson on the butt.
"Grandpa? Why did you kick me!"
"William had a daughter."
"So? What’s that got to do with me?"
"Just annoyed by you!"
"..."
Michale Shaw felt aggrieved and went to complain to William, but he was completely ignored.
William’s mind was entirely on his wife and daughter. Zoe could walk around by evening, but she still needed people around her, and Julia was particularly anxious. Having lost a daughter before, she couldn’t leave her granddaughter’s side.
Bathing, vaccinations, she had to be there the whole time, not trusting anyone else.
She seemed to be trying to make up for what she owed her daughter.
Tim wanted to hold his niece but was rejected by his mother.
"Do you even know how to hold a baby? You’re so clumsy."
Tim was speechless.
Trained in design and making jewelry by hand, praised for his talent and dexterity since childhood, he seemed worthless in his mother’s eyes.
However, the more he looked at his niece, the more he liked her, even changing his phone’s wallpaper to her picture, cherishing it greatly.
Wyatt Hale would rush to the hospital whenever he was free after school.
He had been the youngest in the family but was now an uncle, so he had to learn to be more composed.
But when William saw him, he only asked, "On the night your sister-in-law went into labor, you took her out for hotpot?"
"Bro, it was our sister-in-law who wanted it!"
"She said you were craving it."
"I..."
What could he do when his sister-in-law said so? Wyatt could only accept it.
But with the birth of his niece, his older brother was noticeably happier, stern on the outside but unable to hide his tender affection. Since they didn’t choose breastfeeding, William spent lots of time taking care of the baby.
Though Zoe had suffered terribly during childbirth, someone had said they’d teach that baby a lesson as soon as she was born.
Now, however, he had completely become a doting father.
The little one had mild jaundice, and as she basked in the sun, William watched over her, eyes filled with tenderness.
Zoe was discharged three days later, and William handled the birth certificate. Old Sir Hale, at home during this time, thought of numerous names for the baby, flipping through dictionaries every day.
He came up with over twenty names, wanting Zoe to pick one she liked.
If she wasn’t satisfied, he would think of more, "I think names like Anlan or Mingxi are good, with great meanings."
But he was told the name had already been decided.
"When was it decided?"
"The birth certificate’s already done." William’s expression was nonchalant.
"What’s the name?"
"Vera."
Old Sir Hale was stunned for a few seconds. Vera? Why not call her Congratulations on Getting Rich or Happy New Year? Such a casual name!
Zoe was also surprised because it was a name she jokingly suggested. When discussing names, she’d said, "I want a simple, catchy name, something like Vera or Verses, nothing obscure."
Well,
William actually named her Vera.
Old Sir Hale was quite upset, but the little one seemed to like the name. When William called her "Vera", she would open her eyes wide and look at him. "Grandpa, look, she likes it."
Vera, may she have peace and fulfilment throughout her life.
Old Sir Hale huffed, "Nonsense, she’s so young. If you call her Iron Pillar, she’ll still look at you."
And indeed:
When called Iron Pillar, she also opened her eyes and blinked, seemingly liking that name even more. The usually articulate Mr. Hale had nothing to say.
There’s no way she could be called Iron Pillar, right.
