Chapter 398: 397 Great Show (3) Fake Jewelry, Climaxes One After Another
Mrs. Jeans is so clever, she sees right through Cressida Jones’s thoughts.
If Marigold really had a gift, then the video might be fake.
If there’s no gift, she might cling to the video instead.
So she hastily sends someone: "Bring up the gift from Second Miss Jones quickly."
Marigold breathes heavily, "Let’s bring the gift later, the engagement party is halfway through, don’t delay the good timing."
Mrs. Jeans gives her a fierce stare.
The engagement party has already been turned upside down, why care about an auspicious time anymore?
If this doesn’t get handled well, the Jeans Family will become a laughingstock in Capital City.
Soon, Marigold’s gift is brought in, a large box, but looking at the staff member bounding energetically, it doesn’t seem to be heavy.
"Sister, so this is your gift to me after all. It seems the video really wasn’t the gift you prepared," Cressida laughs, "I misunderstood you."
Marigold is at a loss for words.
The video wasn’t her doing after all.
"Let’s see what you have given then," Cressida says, reaching to open the gift.
But she’s stopped by Marigold, "Sister, let’s open it after the ceremony."
"It’s alright, I just want to take a quick look."
"Sister..."
Marigold begins to prevent her at all costs, and anyone can tell there’s a problem.
And as the two struggle, the box falls to the ground and when the lid opens, its contents spill out.
Unexpectedly,
it’s a set of sexy lingerie.
This isn’t particularly unusual – for engagements or weddings, it’s common for those who are close to give these kinds of presents.
But the set of lingerie in the box...
it’s torn in places, wrinkled and messed up, obviously worn before.
Inside the box, there’s also a card.
Cressida picks it up, mumbling, "This is the lingerie set my brother-in-law likes the most, I give it to you, sister..."
As she reads on, the color drains from her face, she looks incredulously at her own sister, "Marigold, is this the engagement gift you’ve given me? The lingerie you wore while sleeping with him? Have you no shame?"
"No wonder you always tell me, only those who aren’t loved are the mistresses."
"It turns out you’ve been provoking me all this time, I was just too naive."
The crowd below is in an uproar again.
The climax is just wave after wave.
Everyone originally thought that for the sake of both families’ reputations, Cressida, even if she knew something, would probably keep her grievances to herself.
Maybe the two families would issue a statement saying the video was fake, and the matter would be covered up.
But they didn’t expect there to be a sequel!
"Second Miss Jones truly has no shame, gifting used lingerie? Who does something like that?"
"From this, it’s clear the video is definitely not fake."
"Scumbag and loose woman, just end it, don’t harm others anymore."
...
"Marigold!" Mr. and Mrs. Jones have now stepped up on stage, "This isn’t what you gave, right? Who is deliberately sabotaging our engagement event?"
"I know who did this." Mrs. Jeans, glancing at the lingerie on the ground and then turning to Marigold.
"Just because I don’t agree with you being with Beckett, you created all this trouble?"
"To marry into our family, you are really unscrupulous!"
"With the video and now the lingerie, are you trying to ruin our family?"
Speaking, Mrs. Jeans slaps her across the face.
Before Marigold can react, two more slaps land on her face.
She’s struck until her mouth bleeds.
Her body sways and she falls to the ground.
As Beckett attempts to help her up, his mother halts him with a cold glare.
"Aunt, I really didn’t do it!" Marigold sobs piteously.
"But the lingerie is definitely a gift from you, aren’t the words on this card written by you?" Cressida throws the card in her face.
"Cressida, this must be her seducing Beckett, you have to believe in him!" Mrs. Jeans obviously tries to pin all the blame on Marigold.
Moreover, she still wanted Cressida Jones to marry her son.
"I believe in Beckett’s feelings for me, he even specially went to Payne Corps to custom-make earrings for me during the New Year."
"It is said that one can only buy one pair of these earrings, they’re supposed to symbolize sweet love."
"I really like them, so I kept wearing them. I believe he just had a moment of confusion."
These words...
No matter how you listened to them, they all seemed like she was love-struck.
Wyatt Hale was getting frantic.
He wished he could crack open her head to see if it was filled with paste!
"Don’t be anxious," Zoe Payne comforted him.
Bringing up the earrings reminded her that Miss Jones had always been wearing fakes.
Mentioning this intentionally...
Was it a coincidence?
If it was deliberate, then everything that happened tonight could be interesting.
As Cressida Jones spoke, she even touched her earrings.
All eyes were focused on her.
"Those are indeed earrings designed by Payne Corps, named Cherry Blossoms, decorated with pink gemstones, suitable for young ladies in their twenties."
"Something about these earrings seems off."
Many of those present were the wealthy and noble of Capital City, accustomed to seeing fine things.
Before, nobody had paid attention, but a careful look now made some rich ladies and young ladies aware that something was amiss.
"Miss Jones, there seems to be a problem with the earrings you’re wearing, are those pink gemstones?" someone spoke up.
"How could they not be gemstones? You must be too far away and saw it wrong," Cressida Jones said, taking off the earrings and passing them over.
Upon inspection, the rich lady frowned and said, "These are pink gemstones, but the quality is not right. The gemstones used by Payne Corps are always of exceptional quality and color, these clearly have flaws!"
"What do you mean by that?" Cressida Jones asked.
"These are fakes!"
"That’s impossible, these were custom-made for me by Beckett himself!" Cressida Jones argued.
At this point, Young Master Jeans had already turned pale.
Mrs. Jeans, looking at her son’s evasive eyes, was so angry she was nearly having a stroke!
There really seemed to be a problem with these earrings.
"Junior President Payne is here today, if you don’t believe me, you could ask him to take a look," said the rich lady.
Everyone’s gaze shifted,
all landing on Tim Payne.
He sat with dignified and lofty detachment, watching Cressida Jones draw near and offering the earrings, "Junior President Payne, please take a look."
Tim Payne already knew they were fakes, but played along and glanced at them.
"They’re fake."
"Could you look closer? There’s the Payne Corps logo on them; how can they be fakes?" Cressida Jones seemed unconvinced.
"Our Payne Corps products, besides the company logo, also have the designer’s unique stamp and product number; the steel stamps are very clear. The stamp on this is blurry, obviously incorrect, and the gemstones are of poor quality, they couldn’t be from Payne Corps."
"Thank you, Junior President Payne!" Cressida Jones sounded incredibly aggrieved.
With Tim Payne’s endorsement, it was like nailing the coffin that the earrings were fake!
"Cressida, this..." Beckett Jeans tried to explain.
But Cressida Jones stepped forward and tossed the earrings onto his face, "You said, these were specially bought for me, I’ve been wearing them every day since New Year’s Eve, but I never thought..."
"They are fakes!"
"If you didn’t want to give me a gift, you could have just said so, but why did you give me a fake?"
"Probably many people have seen me wearing fake earrings and are sneering at me behind my back!"
"They might say I’m vain, deliberately buying imitations, even if it was just some silver or plastic, as long as it was from you, I would be happy, I don’t need anything from Payne Corps."
"I don’t care about the value of the gifts, what matters to me is the thought behind them."
"Turns out, even that thought... is fake!"
She spoke with sincerity and emotion.
As if she deeply loved Beckett Jeans, her expression was one of pain and discomfort, as if hurt very deeply.
Beautiful women in tears, the audience below was moved to great pity.
Tim Payne sneered quietly:
Miss Jones shouldn’t be fussing over flowers and plants, she should be studying acting.
