Chapter 382: Junior President Payne steps up? Doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty
Zoe Payne watched as the bouquet fell into the arms of another girl and only then did she notice her.
Wasn’t this the girl she had met at Payne Corps last time?
How come she’s sitting with her cousin?
And...
There was an odd vibe permeating the scene. Usually, after the bouquet is thrown, Zoe was supposed to offer her blessings, hoping that the person who caught the bouquet would soon find a good match and continue the happiness.
The master of ceremonies had already handed her the microphone, but Wyatt Hale had already taken her hand, hinting to the host that the ceremony was over.
Although Zoe was confused, she said nothing, allowing him to lead her backstage to change into her toast attire.
"There was some trouble at the hotel last night," William Hale said.
"I heard some about it from my cousin."
"The one who caught the bouquet just now is the Jones Family’s eldest daughter."
Zoe realized:
It was her.
Having just been betrayed by her boyfriend and sister, Zoe hadn’t matched the person to the name, only knowing she had a fiancé. If she had wished them to marry soon, she would probably be the subject of gossip again.
After the toasting was over, William was pulled aside by Martin Yates, who warned him in a low voice: "Do not bully my niece, or you’ll have me to answer to."
"I know."
Zoe intended to step in and help, but then she bumped into Jovan Gonzalez. She greeted him with a smile, "Uncle."
"You look very beautiful today."
Perhaps to avoid pointing fingers, he had only entered after the ceremony had started.
"Thank you."
"This is a wedding gift for you," Jovan Gonzalez handed her a beautifully wrapped box, "I wish you and Wyatt Hale a harmonious marriage and a century of bliss."
Zoe thanked him and took the box, chatted with him briefly, then went to attend to other guests.
Jovan Gonzalez watched her figure for a long time.
In the banquet hall, glasses clinked and laughter was in the air—such a lively scene.
He didn’t stay long, greeted the Elder Mrs. and Mr. Payne, then headed to the hospital.
Iva Payne lay in the hospital bed, seeing the box of wedding sweets in his hand, and sneered, "Who’s getting married again?"
"Today, it’s Zoe Payne and William Hale’s wedding."
"Zoe... Payne?"
Iva Payne was startled by the name and stayed that way for a long time.
Finally, everyone had returned to their proper place.
She could imagine that today’s wedding was unprecedentedly spectacular. The thought of her own daughter locked up in detention and her paralysis filled her with hatred.
She trembled with anger and bit her lip until it bled.
——
In the wedding banquet hall,
Martin Yates had drunk a lot tonight, he clung on without letting go, and with a few Payne family relatives egging him on, William Hale could not get away.
Then, Old Sir Hale pushed his youngest son towards him.
To have Finn Hale take drinks for Wyatt.
Since Finn had been archenemies with Tim Payne for many years, falling into this group of Payne relatives was like falling into a den of wolves. They were not easily fooled, pouring him drink after drink, without any mercy.
It was Tim Payne who stepped in to break it up, "Uncle, that’s enough. If he drinks any more, he’ll end up in the hospital."
"Let him off then."
Tim Payne gestured for his fellow apprentice sister to help Finn to the guest room to rest.
Finn Hale was so drunk he was out of it, and Tim was worried that Sussie Lopez couldn’t support him alone, so each supported him by one side and sent him to his room. Before leaving, he admonished, "I’ll have someone send over some hangover soup later, and they can look after him too. If he’s really not feeling well and you can’t handle it, give me a call."
Sussie Lopez nodded in agreement.
Tim Payne had quite a few drinks tonight and now was feeling dizzy.
He was about to head to the restroom to splash some water on his face to sober up when, after turning a corner, he overheard a woman’s mocking tone: "I don’t know how you got to know Hannah Johnson, but sister, don’t count on her treating you as a friend."
"Thinking that sitting at the same table with her will get you into their circle, you better not dream."
"The bouquet..."
"You think you deserve it!"
As she spoke, the woman raised her hand and knocked the bouquet right out of the girl’s hands.
"Marigold Jones, don’t go too far," the girl said, frowning as she looked at the bouquet on the ground.
"If you know what’s good for you, you’d break up with him willingly."
"And if I don’t? Then you’ll always be the shameful mistress who can’t show her face anywhere."
"So what if you dated him first, the one who isn’t loved is the real mistress! Knowing full well he doesn’t like you, yet you shamelessly cling onto him, just because you can’t bear to let go of the wealth of the Jeans Family. That’s shameless."
The girl simply smiled, "Sister, keep it down, is it something to be proud of?"
"I don’t know if what you two have is true love, but you knowingly push yourself into the picture while we are dating, Marigold Jones, I have two words for you:"
"Shameless!"
"You..." Second Miss Jones turned pale with anger, raising her hand to strike her, but then she heard a light cough from not far away. Turning her head, she saw Tim Payne standing there.
He exuded noble elegance and a maturity beyond his peers, a sense of ease as if he’d seen all the upheavals of life.
Broad shoulders, narrow hips, proud and lofty.
His deep black eyes pressed down, silently seeping into the surroundings, making the air turn colder.
"Ju—Junior President Payne..." The previously arrogant Marigold Jones instantly turned pale.
"A mistress is a mistress, there’s no such flattering term as ’coming from behind’."
"If Second Miss Jones feels proud about stealing and finds vulgarity beautiful, the surveillance footage from last night’s hotel is still available. I wouldn’t mind spreading the word for you."
"Today is my sister’s wedding. If anyone dares to speak recklessly again and dirty the place, I won’t mind getting my hands dirty and throwing out the trash."
Clearly, Marigold Jones dared not offend the man in front of her and bit her lip while turning deathly pale.
This sister of hers, relying on her family’s affection, always ordered people around at home.
But in front of Tim Payne...
Polite, toadying,
like a dog.
Power is, at the right time, a wonderful thing.
"Junior President Payne, I was just joking with my sister," Marigold Jones tried to squeeze out a smile.
"In your eyes, am I blind? Or deaf?"
"I..."
"Aren’t you leaving yet? Or do I need to personally escort you out?" Tim Payne’s voice was mild yet indifferent, but his face was utterly cold.
She stammered, seemingly wanting to say something more, yet was intimidated by the chill in Tim Payne’s eyes and retreated two steps before leaving angrily.
That Miss Jones obviously didn’t expect to run into Tim Payne, nor expected him to stand up for her. She stared blankly for a few seconds, while he had already stepped forward, bent down, picked up the fallen bouquet from the ground, and handed it to her.
"Thank you, Junior President Payne." She took the bouquet from him.
Tim Payne stayed silent, just turning to enter the restroom.
When he came out, he didn’t expect Miss Jones to have not yet left. She took out a box from her bag and passed it to him, "This is hangover relief candy; it works well, you might want to try it."
Tim Payne paused, took it and said, "Thank you."
"It’s me who should thank you."
After she spoke, she turned and walked away. Tim Payne, holding the hangover candy, looked at it for a long while and then placed it in his pocket.
When he reentered the banquet hall, many guests had already left. He found Wyatt Hale, "Finn Hale is in room 1806, go and have a look, and bring him some hangover soup."
"Alright, I’m on it right away."
Wyatt Hale was just a kid, naturally he didn’t drink, he asked a staff member for hangover soup and ran to the guest room.
