Mrs Hale, I Surrender -
Chapter 375 - 374 Junior President Payne’s ’Son-in-Law’ First Experience
Chapter 375: 374 Junior President Payne’s ’Son-in-Law’ First Experience
Sussie Lopez personally went downstairs to greet Tim Payne. As the two entered the apartment, he immediately spotted his old nemesis, Brock Hale, clad in an apron and busy in the kitchen.
With just a glance at his face, one could sense his arrogant nobility, but there he was, adeptly handling a knife as he expertly prepared a fish.
He greeted them with a courteous nod as they walked in.
In his mind, Tim mused,
Love,
truly is magical.
To think it had persuaded someone like Finn Hale to willingly tie on an apron and cook soup.
"Uncle, Auntie." Lost in thought, he had already looked away, politely greeting the Lopezs.
"It’s been a long time, the last time we met was years ago," Mr. Lopez said with a smile. "We’ve been bothering you a lot lately because of our Sussie."
"Uncle, you’re being too kind. Sussie saved my sister; she’s a savior to our entire family. We can’t thank you enough, and we wanted to invite you over, but we’ve been tied up with so much recently..."
"We understand, and we didn’t expect that you had a sister getting married. We received the wedding invitation."
"Could Uncle and Auntie come to the wedding?"
"We are leaving in a couple of days, so I’m afraid we won’t be able to make it. Please, give our blessings to Miss Payne and her husband for a happy and lasting marriage, and may they have children soon."
"I hope your good wishes come true."
Tim engaged in lively conversation with the Lopezs until dinner began, which allowed him to enjoy being served by Finn Hale.
Naturally, Finn aimed to please his future in-laws, and so he was all about serving tea and wine humbly.
Junior President Payne was flaunting borrowed authority.
"Try the wine, how is it? It’s a special one I bought when Sussie moved; it’s not expensive, but it’s quite good," Mr. Lopez said with a smile.
Tim tasted the red wine, "Perhaps it’s the thoughtfulness of the one who poured it that makes it taste so good. I find it quite nice."
After all,
it was Finn who poured the wine.
Finn grimaced:
He can’t shake the feeling he’s being teased on purpose.
"If you find it good, brother, then please have some more." Brock gritted his teeth, pouring him a large glass.
Sussie pursed her lips and signaled Finn with her eyes:
You sly dog,
are you trying to get your brother-in-law drunk!
Tim could hold his liquor quite well; he drank plenty without being much affected. But Mr. Lopez, who boasted he could drink without ever getting drunk, was now thoroughly inebriated. He patted Tim’s arm with heartfelt words, "Little Hale, I can see it in you, you’re truly sincere about Sussie..."
"Uncle, I’m not Finn."
"How can you not be?"
Finn coughed once, "Uncle, I’m over here."
Mr. Lopez glanced at him and frowned, "No, you’re not him. Little Hale is much more good-looking; you, on the other hand, are not up to par."
Sussie laughed under her breath.
"Little Hale, after observing you for so many days, I know you’re a good kid. Sussie still needs your care, and I hope you two will be well together."
"She’s my only daughter, and despite appearing gentle and demure, sometimes she’s quite bold and may do some over-the-top things. Please be patient with her. Lovers, spouses, they all need to understand and be tolerant of each other."
"I know our family backgrounds don’t match, but I believe, since you were raised to be such a person, your family won’t be prejudiced against Sussie. So..."
"I’m entrusting my daughter to you!"
Mr. Lopez, gripping Tim’s hand, affectionately called him ’Little Hale’ over and over.
"Old Lopez, you’ve had too much to drink, I’ll help you back to your room to rest." Mrs. Lopez felt embarrassed by the display.
"I don’t need your help; I want to talk with Little Hale all night."
Tim Payne: "..."
He made a subtle gesture to Finn Hale.
Finn had tried to get Tim Payne to step down, but Mr. Lopez had taken a liking to him and wouldn’t let go of his arm.
Tim hadn’t expected that he, a man without even a girlfriend, would strangely spend an entire evening heart-to-heart with a "father-in-law" and by the end of it, he had sobered up completely.
Finn watched from the side, a smile always playing at the corners of his mouth.
It was late into the night before the two could leave the apartment.
"You really didn’t waste your time tonight, experiencing what it’s like to be a son-in-law in advance," Finn joked.
"You’re moving fast with your junior sister. When did your relationship get confirmed that you’ve already been allowed into the family home?"
"That’s why Junior President Payne, you should hurry up. Don’t wait until my kid can fetch soy sauce and you’re still not even close to starting," Finn patted his shoulder, "Where are you staying tonight? I’ll drive you."
"No need, my assistant will come to pick me up."
Tim gave Finn a look, "Your assistant, still not sorted out?"
"Soon."
...
The work had essentially been handed over completely.
William Hale’s people were all well-trained and caught on quickly. Finn planned to deal with Finn Robinson after the Lopezs had left the capital to avoid the madness that might actually happen, causing trouble for the elders, which would not be good.
**
Before the Lopezs left the capital, the elder Hales had intended for the two families to meet.
"Dad, Brock has only been dating Miss Lopez for a few days; isn’t it too early to meet like this?" Brock Hale said.
Quade Hale raised an eyebrow, "Big brother, you think this is early?"
"In our father’s heart, he wishes Brock could confirm the relationship today, get married tomorrow, and it would be best if he could have a granddaughter the day after tomorrow."
Old Sir Hale, hearing the word ’granddaughter,’ smiled with delight, his face creasing up with joy.
However, it indeed was too early for a meeting now. The two families hadn’t met, but the elders still prepared some gifts for the Lopezs to take back home. Finn personally escorted them to the airport and made sure they boarded the plane before returning to his studio.
Finn Robinson had been very pleased with himself lately.
To be worthy of standing by Finn Hale’s side, he had spent the majority of his savings on new clothes.
Hearing that Finn had summoned him to the office, his heart swelled with joy.
Perhaps, he thought, it was going to be a work assignment.
"Mr. Hale, you wanted to see me?" Finn Robinson stepped in, smartly dressed in a suit, his hair neat and shoes polished to a shine, presenting quite a figure.
He glimpsed around the office, and, aside from Finn, there were others present.
William Hale, Michale Shaw,
and Tim Payne.
And the two assistants who always trailed after William, Zac Cruz and Kyle Lowe.
He knew all of these people.
Finn Robinson was taken aback:
Why would these esteemed gentlemen be at M & R?
"The assistant work has all been handed over, right?" Finn sat on the sofa, boiling water for tea. He had just taken a pack of Mother Tree Big Red Robe from his grandmother, the heated process permeating the room with the scent of tea.
"Yeah."
"Finn Robinson, though you’ve always been my assistant, I mainly focus on the drawings, seldom meddling in management, which you’ve mostly handled. M & R has come this far today, and you’ve indeed contributed a lot."
Finn poured a cup of tea and gestured for him to drink.
Finn Robinson hesitated before picking up the teacup, the water hot to his touch as he carefully held it from beneath, "Mr. Hale, this is all part of my job."
Having been with Finn for many years, he sensed something was off about today’s conversation.
A sense of foreboding flashed through his mind.
Indeed,
Finn immediately continued, "After you leave the company, I will follow regulations and provide you with certain compensation..."
