Chapter 242: 241 Hit him to death? Scared to death (4 more updates)

Ryan Wells woke again to find himself on an empty mountain at night, tied to a tree, the surroundings desolate and quiet.

He desperately yelled for help, but the only response was the howling mountain wind.

Animals made low noises around him.

The distant trees turned into clumps of darkness against the night, resembling wild beasts lurking among the mountains.

The atmosphere was eerily frightening.

"Help, help—" Ryan Wells shouted,"Is there anyone out there?"

No one answered.

He tried to struggle, but his hands were tied behind his back around the tree, and one of his hands was broken. Any movement that rubbed against the wound caused a bone-piercing pain that made him break out in cold sweats.

He shouted until his voice was hoarse.

Yet no one responded to him, and Ryan Wells became furious, "William Hale, are you even human?"

"Come out! If you’ve got the guts to tie me up here, then show yourself!"

"Bastard, son of a bitch..."

Could it be that he planned to leave him tied up here, to perish on his own?

As he was cursing in earnest, suddenly he heard a car approaching, its lights illuminating the surroundings, heading his way.

His heart leapt with joy:

"Help, help—" he shouted at the top of his lungs, seeming to catch the attention of the person in the car, which slowly stopped not far from him.

Ryan Wells finally breathed a sigh of relief and continued to call for help in broken English.

Indeed, no road is utterly impassable!

But after the car stopped, no one got out.

"Help!" he kept shouting, also saying, "Save me, I can give you money, money, money—"

But the other party remained unmoved!

Ryan Wells shouted for a long time, gasping for breath, with the howling wind in his ears.

Meanwhile, the car that had stopped suddenly started moving again!

It was like an arrow off its string, coming towards him in an instant.

The car was speeding so fast, the tires screeched loudly against the ground, and Ryan Wells was bewildered in an instant.

That speed,

was it meant to kill him?

Instinctively, he opened his mouth wide, screaming for help.

His hoarse voice, dry and raspy, his body twisting and struggling frantically.

Ignoring his injured wrist, blood soaked through the outer bandage, turning the area around his wrist blood-red, the skin abraded and flayed!

But the car did not slow down because of this, instead it sped up even more.

The headlights were blinding, and his vision was a blur of white.

"Ah—"

A scream tore through the night sky.

"Screech—" A sharp braking sound.

The front of the car stopped less than a meter from him.

He was scared to the core, covered in cold sweat, his clothes soaked, his breathing heavy and shallow, his soul nearly leaving his body, his legs shaking violently, his body unable to stop shivering.

That feeling of being on the brink of death left his mind completely blank.

At the moment when the car was about to hit him, all his senses were taken away.

Under extreme fear, his face became even more twisted and horrifying.

And at that moment, the car window rolled down.

He saw a familiar face.

It was William Hale!

"It... it’s you!" Ryan Wells gasped, "Are you crazy, crazy? You dare to kill me?"

"Sorry, it’s been too long since I drove myself, didn’t control the distance properly, let me try again," William said as he reversed the car.

Try again?

Ryan Wells was scared out of his wits.

Was this madman, William, trying to kill him?

Memories from years ago flooded his mind, even though they both mingled in the Circle of Capital City, the circle had its hierarchies, and William Hale was one of those few at the pinnacle of the pyramid. They never crossed paths; on the rare occasions they met, he was cold, proud, resplendent, untouched by dust.

But since that incident,

Ryan Wells had been utterly terrified of him!

This man,

was a thorough madman!

Vicious and ferocious!

It was just well hidden usually.

So over these years, even though Ryan Wells despised him to the core, he dared not cause any trouble again, and if he sought revenge, it would be through harming Lucas Bell.

And now, the car reversed and then charged toward her at high speed!

This time, the distance was even closer!

Only half a meter away!

Then,

he tried again and again—

Each time the distance was very close!

Such torment,

was truly worse than death!

Until the car "bang—" slammed into his leg with a force that wasn’t enough to break it, but scared him to the point where his legs went weak, had he not been leaning against a tree, he would have collapsed to the ground long ago.

William Hale got out of the car, dressed in black.

Stepping through the night shadows of the mountain, each step seemed to press down on his heart, suffocating him.

Ryan Wells had long been scared stiff.

His eyes lost focus, pupils dilated.

Like a walking corpse that could only gasp and blink.

He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one up and put it to his lips, the sparks flickering, momentarily illuminating his face several times.

Compared to a few years ago, he had become colder and more stern, glancing at him, "Ryan Wells, I warned you back then, to keep your distance from my life. You gave good advice, why didn’t you listen?"

Ryan Wells’s sanity slowly returned as he gasped for air, "Let me go, I beg you, I promise to stay abroad for the rest of my life, never to return to the country!"

William Hale laughed.

"Do you think you can still go back?"

Ryan Wells’s legs were weak, "You... you’re not planning to kill me?"

"Kill you? That would be letting you off too easy," said William Hale with an emotionless expression, simply glancing sideways at him, "Scum like you deserve to live a lifetime in hell."

Ryan Wells breathed rapidly, "My parents won’t let you off!"

"They can hardly save themselves."

"What have you done to my family!" Ryan Wells became agitated.

"The moment you laid a hand on my family, you should have considered the consequences."

"My parents are innocent!"

"Innocent?" William Hale scoffed, "What about those girls you’ve harmed? Aren’t they innocent? Each one of them is a treasured daughter, held in the palm of her parents’ hands. What gives you the right to ruin them?"

"Then..." Ryan Wells panted, "they had it coming, they were after my money."

"You sure know how to put a pretty spin on your actions."

Hosting a dinner was just a façade for choosing concubines.

Many girls who had been bullied kept quiet, worried about public exposure affecting themselves, swallowing their grievances. Others who reported to the police were eventually silenced with money by the Wells Family.

It was because of Zoe Bell that William Hale happened upon the scene

And took action.

Ryan Wells was also hot-blooded at the time and wouldn’t let himself be kicked and punched without retaliation, which almost cost him his life at the hands of William Hale.

The incident originated from Ryan Wells’s attempt to victimize a girl, drugging their drinks, but his plan failed. Ryan Wells vehemently denied it, and without evidence, the police couldn’t prosecute.

His girlfriend at the time also refused to admit that she was an accomplice of Ryan Wells.

The case couldn’t be settled.

While William Hale did injure someone, the Wells Family was wary of pressing charges due to fear of escalating the situation, so they hastily sent him overseas that year.

William Hale had once reached out to some of the girls he had hurt. They were frightened by the Wells Family’s power and worried about the repercussions if the truth came out, so they could not publicly testify.

And so, the matter was left unresolved.

The Wells Family, having aided their son in concealing his actions over the years and ruining many young women, were far from innocent.

"William Hale, I beg you, please let me go," Ryan Wells cried out pleadingly.

"You think I’d let you go after finally sending you overseas?" William Hale raised an eyebrow at him.

Even the dim-witted Ryan Wells finally realized at this moment.

Everything...

was all part of a design.

From the moment he targeted Zoe Bell, he had fallen into a trap.

The severing of the hand, seeking medical help, going overseas,

It was all part of his plan!

In the end, William Hale took a last drag of his cigarette, "Overseas isn’t like back home, the public safety isn’t as good. Lucas was just walking on the street and someone broke his hand, so for trash like you, going missing or losing your life would be normal, right?"

...

Ryan Wells’s face turned ashen as William Hale stubbed out his cigarette and walked away.
