Chapter 186: 186 Follow me, I won’t give you status (2 more updates)

Hannah Johnson massaged her temples. Last night, it was he who had kissed her without her permission,

yet today, she was expected to take responsibility.

Why had things developed in this manner?

As she looked at the breakfast laid out on the table, her gaze inadvertently caught Fanta, who was being cared for and licking its fur, a feeling she couldn’t quite describe arose in her heart.

Actually,

keeping a puppy didn’t seem like a bad idea either.

During breakfast, she looked at the person in front of her seriously, "What’s your name?"

"Isaac Shea."

As Hannah drank her porridge, she thought mockingly, that name does sound pretty nice, "Do you want to be with me?"

"Yeah."

"You know, I might never get married in my lifetime."

Isaac nodded, "I understand."

Hannah stirred the porridge in front of her, "Your timing is quite peculiar, I really need company right now, and I think you are pretty good, you can provide me with great emotional value."

"Maybe after a while, when I adjust my state, or if I feel annoyed or fed up... I might kick you out."

"You can accept that too?"

The brown puppy looked at her, silent.

"Even if we live together, you won’t hold any title, does that also not matter to you?"

"If you’re okay with it, you can live here from now on."

Hannah had been prepared not to marry for a long time.

After all, entering a marriage, if it doesn’t go well, could likely end up like her own mother’s experience—a cost too great.

For a long while, he remained silent.

During this period, he seemed to have thought a lot.

"You don’t have to rush your answer, tell me next time we meet," Hannah motioned for him to take out his phone, "or tell me over the phone, let’s add each other’s contact information."

Isaac nodded.

Hannah didn’t dislike him, and besides, this brown puppy was appealing to her aesthetic, could cook, and even help take care of her cat.

Everything,

was quite good.

Especially since, at this stage, she really didn’t want to be alone when she came home.

She wanted him to help her get through this tough time,

last time in the hospital, he had already admitted he liked her, as long as Hannah wanted, she didn’t even need to speak clearly, he would willingly accompany her, but he would definitely be heartbroken afterwards.

They were both adults, it was a matter of mutual consent.

Just like how she willingly brought him home, she was ready for a relationship to happen.

This didn’t mean they had to date or get married afterward.

Some people get together with marriage in mind, clearly, he would not agree to a vague and unclear relationship like theirs.

So Hannah had to make things clear upfront.

To prevent confusion and dragging issues when separating later, which did not match her personality.

After finishing their meal, as he was about to clear the table, the doorbell rang twice. Upon opening it, a woman in her forties, holding fruit and groceries, appeared at the doorstep. She took out a disposable shoe cover, just about to enter when she saw a strange man inside and paused for a while.

"Sophia." Hannah greeted proactively.

She was the housekeeper Hannah had hired, who came regularly to do housework, feed the cat, clean the litter, and also helped update the food in the refrigerator.

Sophia worked while her gaze inevitably drifted over to Isaac.

Who is this?

And what is his relationship with Miss Johnson?

One glance at the kitchen was enough to tell it was in use.

Looking at the uneaten food, from her years of experience in housekeeping, making all this would require getting up very early.

Could it be:

This man didn’t leave last night?

Having followed Hannah for many years, she had never allowed an opposite-sex guest to stay over. Even Mr. Hale had to go home no matter how late it was, so who exactly was this man?

"Then I’ll be going now." Isaac glanced at Hannah.

"To school?"

"Yeah."

Sophia was stunned again.

Was this possibly a college student?

Hannah stood up, "Shall I walk you?"

"No need, you drank last night, rest more, I’ll take a taxi myself."

After Isaac Shea left, Hannah Johnson finally collapsed onto the sofa, and Fanta quickly scurried onto her lap, finding a comfortable spot to curl up.

He was still a student, probably quite naive, wanting just a simple romance, and she guessed her words earlier must have scared him.

If he ran off, it might be for the best, following her in the state she was in would only hurt him.

**

In the following days, Hannah constantly checked her phone.

But she hadn’t received any messages from the small tea-colored puppy.

It seemed...

He really had run off!

He was good-looking, and from his behavior and speech, it was clear he was well-educated, and his family wasn’t poor; he didn’t need to stick with her without any certain future.

"Whose call are you waiting for?" Yumi Johnson noticed her daughter seemed distracted lately.

"None."

"You’re lying to me now?"

"A client. I discussed a project with him a few days ago, and I proposed some rather tough conditions, he probably couldn’t accept them, so he hasn’t replied. I guess the deal is off."

Yumi Johnson was resigned, "If you think this client is important, you might want to ease up on the demands, don’t scare him away, lest you regret it."

Hannah smiled and nodded, glancing again at her phone.

Oh well,

If he’s gone, he’s gone.

It just wasn’t meant to be.

After being held, after being kissed... this tea-colored puppy had actually run off, and upon reflection, Hannah felt slightly shortchanged.

That day, after coming down from the mountain, she drove directly to the Old House of the Hale Family.

Because it was the anniversary of her aunt’s death this year, her grandmother wanted to hold a ritual for her, somewhat superstitiously, but it was the only way she could find some solace.

Brock Hale and William Hale, possibly even Finn Hale from the family, were expected to attend.

Hannah thought it best to make the visit herself.

"I have no objections, let’s do as she says," Brock Hale had no specific thoughts on the matter.

Finn Hale was sitting on the side, brewing tea, not speaking, which counted as silent consent.

"What about William?"

Hannah had timed her visit to coincide with the end of the workday.

"He should be home soon," Finn said as he handed her a cup of tea.

"Thanks, Uncle,"

Actually, Hannah was very reluctant to call Finn Hale ’Uncle’ since he was only three years her senior, but calling him by his first name would mess up their familial relationships.

Finn reminded her: "It’s hot, be careful."

Hannah nodded slightly.

At that moment, there were footsteps outside.

Brock Hale glanced at the time, "Speak of the devil, it must be William arriving."

Hannah lifted her cup, just about to sip, when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Simon Hale entering the room, one hand holding a laptop, the other carrying several books. Seeing her, he politely called out, "Cousin."

"Hmm," she responded distantly.

Of all the Hale brothers, she was least familiar with Simon Hale.

Because he was obsessed with studying, beyond help.

He hardly participated in any recreational activities, always either holed up in the university lab or buried in the library.

Just as she bowed her head to drink her tea, she caught sight of another figure entering the room.

And then,

a familiar figure,

suddenly burst into her line of sight —

Why him!

Caught off guard, Hannah swallowed a mouthful of scalding tea, burning her mouth as if on fire.

And yet she couldn’t show any strangeness, considering everyone but that Wyatt Hale was the epitome of decorum.

She just had to endure it!

The moment their eyes met, Hannah looked away first, gritting her teeth internally:

What kind of twist of fate was this? She never dreamed she’d bump into him here at the Hale’s.

Finn Hale, head bowed, picked up his cup and sipped his tea.

Capturing every nuance of their unusual interaction without missing a beat.
