Chapter 173: 173 Accidental Confession: Really Like You (2 updates)
He was dressed in a white coat and black pants, paired with a black windbreaker. The light fell on his shoulder, as if a layer of silvery moonlight had been spread upon him.
It was unclear when he had arrived, but he seemed to have been standing there for a long time, not as warm and passionate as before, possessing an indescribable air of cold nobility. He was holding a black briefcase, its contents unknown.
Hannah Johnson furrowed her brows.
Why is it him?
She watched him intently until he walked up to her and smiled, "What? Don’t recognize me?"
"Why are you here?"
"Visiting a friend, just happened to run into you, thought it was getting dark, maybe my eyes were deceiving me." The brown-haired pup sized her up, "Sick?"
She was still wearing a hospital gown.
"Got a bit of a minor injury, didn’t really need to be hospitalized."
"Shall I take you back to your ward?"
Hannah Johnson didn’t refuse. She felt unbearably alone at that moment. While waiting for the elevator, the brown-haired pup took off his windbreaker and draped it over her.
A foreign scent immediately enveloped her.
The leftover warmth of the clothes wrapped around her entire body.
The heat, bit by bit, warmed up her body which had long turned cold.
Hannah Johnson kept silent, gazing at the man before her as he bent down and carefully adjusted her clothes with gentle movements.
She, along with her peers, almost always played the role of the older sister; she looked after others most of the time. Because of her somewhat dominating personality, she rarely accepted others’ proactive care.
Actually, the feeling of being taken care of...
Was quite subtle.
Mainly because, he was good-looking.
Just looking at him was a pleasure, and even seemed to lift her spirits somewhat.
----
Meanwhile, inside the hospital room
Kyle Lowe was restless with worry about Hannah Johnson possibly being in trouble, and because he had too many secrets weighing on his mind, he hesitated and then decided to call Zac Cruz.
"Hey, what kind of wind blew today that Brother Kyle would call me?"
"Where are you?"
"At home."
"There’s something I want to talk to you about."
"Go ahead."
"One night, Cousin Miss drank too much, and I went to pick her up..."
Zac Cruz, enjoying a rare moment of leisure, lit the incense Zoe Bell had given him and brewed a cup of tea, cultivating his mood and relaxing for a moment, "Keep talking."
"That night, she picked up a man from the roadside, and I suspect that he is the person behind the recent trouble."
"Got any evidence?"
"No, but I find him very suspicious."
"How long ago was this?"
"It’s been a while, do you think I should talk to the boss about it? After all, this involves her private life, and I’m just an employee, I..."
Before he could finish, the call was disconnected.
Shortly after, he received a message.
Zac Cruz: [Let’s pretend this call never happened.]
He wasn’t stupid, these kinds of issues should be reported when you first discover them. So much time had passed; bringing it up now would surely result in a scolding.
If not handled properly, this could offend both his boss and Cousin Miss.
Zac Cruz didn’t want to wade into these murky waters.
But he no longer felt like continuing his tea and incense appreciation. He cursed internally:
Kyle Lowe,
You’re a complete ass!
You’ve ruined a perfect moment.
When Kyle tried calling again, the other party had already switched off their phone.
Just then, footsteps could be heard outside,
followed by the door being pushed open from the outside.
When he saw the man who came in after Hannah Johnson, he was bewildered.
Why is it him again!
This guy is like a bad penny!
The brown-haired pup entered the ward and saw the unopened meal box on the bedside table, then looked at Hannah Johnson, "Haven’t you eaten yet?"
"Not hungry."
"I’ve made some food. The friend I was visiting has already eaten, would you like some?"
Hannah Johnson nodded, then sized him up, "Why did you leave that day?"
She was naturally referring to the day after bringing him home.
"I have class at the university in the morning."
Hannah Johnson nodded with a deep voice.
Standing aside, Kyle Lowe felt like going crazy.
Class?
Are you sure you’re really a university student? He had never seen any students who frequented high-end hotels, didn’t return to school at night, and could cook—does the school have a kitchen? Or does he not live on campus and rent a place outside?
This kid lies without even blushing?
Hannah picked up the thermos on the side and took a sip of water while looking at the man who was opening the lunchbox.
Some things, she was not clueless about.
That night she had been drinking, not completely drunk, and since he looked young, she asked if he was a student. But which university student would pass out outside a members-only nightclub, or frequent high-end clubs and hotels?
Yet, the person before her meant her no harm.
She didn’t want to delve into anything else.
So she never asked about his university, name, or anything more.
That night, she had thought, at most it would be a spring fling, and upon waking, they’d go their separate ways.
There was no need to know too much.
Yet, this little brown dog didn’t take advantage of her drunken state to do anything inappropriate, and even considerately left early, preparing her breakfast besides.
That was quite special.
Hannah glanced at Kyle, still standing in the ward.
He discreetly left.
On closing the door, he did not forget to remind her, "I’ll be right outside. If you need anything, just call me."
At that moment, the brown dog opened the lunchbox and offered her chopsticks, but Hannah didn’t take them. Her gaze fell on his left hand, motioning for him to raise it.
Due to his arm movement, the sleeve slid up half an inch, revealing a black hair tie.
The simplest style you could find anywhere on the street.
Yet Hannah was certain:
This was the one she had lost.
He tried to retract his hand, but Hannah grabbed it, "I knew I lost my hair tie."
At this moment, their hands were clasping tightly, and Hannah could clearly feel the temperature in his palm gradually rising, becoming hotter and hotter, as if uncontrollable.
Hannah was already in bad spirits and held on to the idea of teasing him. Clenching his hand, she leaned in even closer...
The little brown dog had very fair skin, and now his ears and neck were flushed red.
He looked,
Like someone you’d really want to tease.
His hands were large, with slender and long fingers, well-defined knuckles, and most importantly, these hands seemed pampered, soft to the touch, with no calluses.
Kyle was just outside the ward, worried something might happen, and took a glance inside through the small glass window.
He was concerned that this big bad wolf might have designs on Cousin Miss,
But what’s happening now?
It looks like Cousin Miss is the one taking liberties with him?
Hannah let go of his hand and twirled her hair tie with her fingers, pondering.
"Have you been wearing it the whole time?"
"Mhmm."
He was tall, and Hannah had to look up at him. She sported a slight smile, her fox-like eyes gently curving, radiant and enticing, "Do you like me?"
They were both adults, some things could be understood with just a glance.
Moreover, he had been wearing the hair tie all along.
Hannah wasn’t foolish, how could she not understand.
Her tone was nonchalant, as if deliberately flirting with him.
But unexpectedly, the little brown dog suddenly leaned down, closing the distance in a flash, intertwining their breaths in an instant. Hannah’s breathing tightened, her hand that was playing with the hair tie froze, yet now was gently held within his.
Even though he looked like a harmless little dog...
He was still a man after all.
His breaths were heavy, hot, carrying a hint of aggressiveness.
Like a gentle knife held close, the narrow gap tore open a wound in her heart, his scent instantly filling her chest.
Hannah was just bold, not experienced, a bit panicked deep down, but still tried to keep her composure.
She had initiated this, and now was not the time to show fear.
The little brown dog before her still had bright eyes, his voice was soft...
With a teasing lilt at the end, looking at her:
"Yeah, I really like you."
What he said was not just like.
It was really like!
Hannah’s breath caught, her heart thumped hard.
