Mrs Hale, I Surrender -
Chapter 130: This is my wife, we are legally married.
Chapter 130: This is my wife, we are legally married.
Zoe Bell finished her shopping and returned to Yarden, and by the time she had sorted out her trophies and her fragrance-making work, the sun had already set.
She began preparing dinner when the doorbell rang, thinking it was William Hale returning.
But when she opened the door, it was Zac Cruz.
"Madam," Zac Cruz said politely, his eyes and brow unable to hide his fatigue.
Zoe Bell nodded in acknowledgment, her gaze moving past him...
Behind him, there was no one.
It made sense — if it had been William Hale, there was no need for him to ring the doorbell.
"Sir is at an important meeting tonight and it might take a while. I’ve come to pick up a few documents."
Zoe Bell nodded with a smile.
Yet she felt a hint of disappointment.
"Nanny Parker is on leave these days, and sir also asked me to order a meal for you, not realizing you were cooking yourself."
"I had nothing else to do anyway."
While Zac Cruz was gathering the documents, Zoe went back to the kitchen and glanced at the soup simmering, "Assistant Cruz, are you in a hurry?"
"Do you need something?"
"My meal is almost ready... would you mind taking a portion to Mr. Hale?"
Zac Cruz had always been perceptive, otherwise, he wouldn’t have stayed by William Hale’s side for so long.
He smiled, apologetically, "Madam, sir needs these documents urgently."
She had cooked a lot of food, more than she could eat.
Zoe was about to say never mind when Zac directly suggested, "Madam, once you finish, why not deliver it yourself?"
"..."
"Sir is very busy and might not be able to answer your call. When you arrive, just contact me directly and I will take you up to him; give him a surprise."
"I can’t find his company."
"Kyle Lowe can find it." Zac Cruz, holding the documents, also reminded Zoe, "If you decide not to come, just let me know so I can order a meal for sir."
"It looks like... he won’t eat. Sir seems to be in a bad mood today."
"Will I disturb him if I go?" Zoe frowned.
"Not at all!"
Once Zac finished speaking, for fear that Zoe might change her mind, he left quickly.
He arrived like a shadow and vanished without a trace.
Zoe stood at the door for a few seconds, stunned.
How had it suddenly turned into her delivering a meal to him?
But she distinctly remembered Zac’s last words.
He,
was in a bad mood.
Zoe frowned, feeling hungry wasn’t a big deal; he wasn’t a child, and would naturally find something to eat if he was really hungry.
However, her body honestly responded by opening the cabinet and searching for a thermal food container.
Finding that he didn’t have a portable one, she used her phone to order an express delivery. When the thermal container arrived, dinner was also ready.
——
At Hale Group, inside the company
There was an issue with a collaborative project, leading to an emergency meeting, keeping half the company working overtime.
Zac remembered that when he went to Yarden this morning, his boss had been in a good mood. How had it changed so suddenly in just a few hours, turning stormy? Seeing madam’s state, it didn’t seem like a marital quarrel.
As long as Zoe came tonight,
they could definitely leave work early.
William Hale massaged his temples, looking at the documents in front of him, one hand irritably fidgeting with a lighter.
He craved a smoke.
"When you were there, what was she doing?" William’s voice was hoarse.
Zac immediately replied, "Madam was cooking."
William nodded and called Zoe.
She was currently in a car, on her way there; from Yarden to the company, it usually took about half an hour, but being rush hour, traffic was heavy. It would be good if she could arrive within an hour.
The phone rang and she cleared her throat, "Hello?"
"Are you eating?"
Thinking of the surprise Zac had mentioned, Zoe said, "I’m eating, have you eaten yet?"
"I have."
"..."
What’s going on? Has he already eaten?
So, after hanging up the phone, Zoe immediately texted Zac: "He’s already eaten, do I still need to bring food?"
"Madam, don’t listen to his nonsense, he hasn’t eaten at all, he’s fooling you! He’s just worried you would worry."
"Are you here yet?"
Zoe: "On the way."
"Contact me when you arrive."
Zac was thrilled.
He glanced sideways at the somber-faced William.
This old man,
I can’t handle you, but someone else surely can.
By the time Zoe got to the company, it was already past seven in the evening. Most employees had left for the day, and the parking lot was empty. Zac received her message and went directly to the underground garage to wait for her, taking the private elevator straight to the top floor.
"The boss is meeting with some department heads to discuss matters; I’ll take you to his office first."
Zac appeared calm on the surface, but internally he was almost deliriously happy.
His savior had finally arrived.
"I also brought you a meal. I just bought a thermal lunch box. I don’t know how well it retains heat. If it’s cold, you can microwave it," Zoe handed one of the bags to Zac.
"Madam, this..." he was flustered by the favor.
"Take it. I prepared it especially for you," Zoe said with a smile, "It’s tough following him around all the time, I understand."
"Then I won’t be shy."
Zac thought, if his boss is King Yan,
then the boss’s wife is truly a living Bodhisattva.
If only the living Bodhisattva could give him a promotion and raise as well.
"Madam, you are not only beautiful but also kind-hearted," Zac excelled at flattery.
Zoe just smiled.
She felt a bit nervous, unsure of how William would react to seeing her there.
On one side, Kyle smirked coldly:
This sycophantic lackey!
The elevator, which was supposed to go directly to the top floor, stopped at the twenty-eighth floor. Zoe looked up and saw William standing outside, accompanied by five differently aged individuals, both men and women, all dressed formally and looking like elites.
"...I’ll go over the details with them again; we should be able to finalize everything before National Day..." The man speaking fell silent the moment he saw the people inside the elevator.
This was William’s private elevator.
They also had the occasional chance to use this elevator while discussing work with the boss.
The ones inside are...
Everyone knew about Zoe and William’s involvement.
As employees, they had naturally seen her photo, secretly searched for her dance videos online, but never thought she would appear in person.
Their boss, who disliked being disturbed during work, rarely had family members visit the company.
William appeared visibly surprised to see her.
"What brings you here?"
"I brought you food," Zoe indicated the bag in her hand and politely greeted the group of executives behind him, "Hello, everyone."
"Miss Bell, hello," the group responded politely.
Yet William frowned slightly, "This is my wife."
The executives: (O_o)??
What does that mean?
Wife?
Wasn’t it said that they were just fooling around?
But William rarely had females around him and had never been involved in any rumors with the opposite sex, so Zoe’s presence was indeed unique.
William added another line, "The kind that’s officially registered."
Being assigned overtime this late, the executives were already on edge, and now they had unexpectedly stumbled upon a bombshell.
Registered?
When did that happen?
Their gaze turned to Zac, whose expression clearly said:
A bunch of country bumpkins,
making a fuss over nothing.
