Chapter 124: 124 Mr. Hale: Do you regret meeting me?
William Hale had just arrived home when he heard that Zoe Bell had been bitten by a hamster. Logan Hale had given her simple treatment—squeezing out blood, rinsing with water, and disinfecting with alcohol—before taking her to the hospital.
Hamsters don’t carry rabies, but the older Hale couple were still worried, so they had Logan take her out for a tetanus shot.
"Which hospital?" William frowned. "Why didn’t you tell me?"
"Zoe said you were at work and not to disturb you."
William wanted to go out but was stopped.
"They’re probably on their way back home now; just be patient."
William didn’t say anything else.
However, Old Sir Hale noticed that his usually calm and collected eldest grandson was particularly unsettled today, anxiously fidgeting with his tie and rolling up his sleeves, pacing back and forth in the front hall.
"It’s nothing serious; it’s just a small cut. Look how worried you are."
He was pacing back and forth in front of him, making him feel dizzy.
Out of the corner of his eye, William spotted the culprit.
Sweetbean was nibbling on some slices of cucumber, scratching around in her little nest before flipping over and falling into a deep sleep.
"William, after working all day, why don’t you go back to your room, change your clothes, and take a shower?" The old lady saw her grandson restless and wanted him to find something to do.
William nodded.
As he reached the doorway of his bedroom, he froze again.
His door...
Had been kicked in again!
----
At this time, Zoe Bell was already on her way back to the Old House of the Hale Family.
"Sister-in-law, I’m really sorry." Logan Hale, seeing Zoe’s continued silence and not knowing her well enough to gauge her temperament, worried his brother would kill him for bringing her back like this.
"It’s not your fault; it was my own carelessness."
"Are you hungry?"
"Not hungry."
"Then you must be thirsty; I’ll buy you something to drink."
"..."
Soon after, Logan pulled the car over and, about half an hour later, returned with four or five drinks, "I didn’t know what you liked, so I bought a variety."
After getting the tetanus shot, it was necessary to be cautious about food, so he bought only fruit-based drinks without any tea.
To tell the truth, the boys of the Hale Family were all well taken care of.
At the hospital, Logan was running back and forth, arranging skin tests and injections, even reminding the nurse to be gentle. But being tall and having a stern face, his intense staring made the young nurse anxious, and she just said, "Stay away from me!"
Then, he took half a step back.
The nurse was helpless.
Zoe picked an orange juice and casually asked, "Do you have deep feelings for Mr. Hale?"
Logan nodded.
He frowned and seriously added, "It’s brotherly love."
Zoe was amused by his response: "Compared to a real brother, it seems like you have deeper feelings for Mr. Hale. Why is that?"
If it were a few hours earlier, Logan definitely wouldn’t have answered.
But now, feeling guilty because of what Sweetbean had done, he confessed,
"I used to be a bit of a delinquent, and it was my brother who pulled me back on track."
"How did he pull you back?"
"Strict!"
"During a rebellious phase, that should have been hard to manage, right?"
Logan nodded. "Eventually, he kept me by his side for a while. After I got better for a bit, I messed up again, so he just kicked me out of the house, without giving me any money. I was kicked out just wearing my tank top and shorts."
"What happened then?"
"I went back like a beaten dog, tail between my legs."
"I guess the outcome was just like that," Zoe laughed.
"You think it ended there?" Logan scoffed. "You underestimate my brother. He flat-out refused to let me back in, telling me to roll."
"..."
"I said I knew I was wrong, but he said he was still angry and didn’t want to see me."
Logan Hale sighed, "He said that this family isn’t a place you can leave and return to whenever you want. There has to be a consensus, a family vote. Only if everyone agrees, then I can come back."
Zoe Bell was stunned, "So they really didn’t let you come home?"
"Yeah, I was like a stray dog, wandering outside for another two days."
Logan Hale was also young at that time.
After such an ordeal, he was definitely disciplined thoroughly.
"Later, when I became an athlete, no one in the family agreed except for my oldest brother. He supported me, encouraged me to pursue what I loved, and ultimately, I even won a national championship."
"Then why did you retire?"
"I couldn’t make any more breakthroughs," Logan said helplessly.
"About this, sister-in-law, you should understand. To achieve results, talent, ability, timing, luck—all aspects are very important."
"When I said I wanted to retire, the family disagreed, thinking I was being capricious."
"But my oldest brother said, he works hard so that us younger brothers can choose the life we want to live. As long as we don’t take the wrong path, he supports us."
Zoe Bell finally understood why Logan Hale had become such a devoted and passionate fan of William Hale.
"Mr. Hale has indeed been very good to you."
Logan raised an eyebrow, "Has he ever bullied you since you’ve been with my brother?"
That was a good question.
The answer is:
Excessively good.

Old House of Hale Family
When Zoe Bell arrived home, just as she got out of the car, she saw William Hale standing on the stone bridge she had to cross to get to the house. The autumn sun, setting, reflected in his eyes like a quietly burning flame.
"How’s your hand?" William Hale asked as he walked towards her.
"It’s nothing, I was just careless. It’s not Logan’s fault."
Logan Hale was still worried his older brother would blame him, but after Zoe explained, William Hale didn’t say anything more.
"Zoe..."
Lily Lott came out of the house at that moment, pulling her inside, but not forgetting to tease William, "You don’t know how anxious William was when he heard you went to the hospital. He’s been waiting outside for you for a long time."
The Hale family knew William Hale too well and noticed something was off when he came home from work.
Yet, they didn’t know what it was.
After dinner, Zoe Bell glanced at him, "Do you want to go out to enjoy the moon?"
"They say the moon is fullest on the sixteenth night, and tonight’s moon should be very beautiful."
William Hale nodded.
Calmly rising, he went out with her.
As they left, Wyatt Hale ruffled his hair, "My brother is acting strange tonight. He didn’t have a fight with sister-in-law, did he?"
Old Sir Hale raised an eyebrow, "Go and see for yourself."
"Grandfather, eavesdropping? That’s not right," Wyatt licked his lips.
Brock Hale was speechless, the old man was again inciting the kids to misbehave.
However, Wyatt was naturally curious and silently followed the couple out.
The old house was designed like a garden, abundant with plants, perfect for hiding.
Zoe Bell and William Hale slowly walked in the garden, stopping mid-way on a secluded path.
Underneath an osmanthus tree, they could look up through the gaps in the branches to see a full moon, its clear light spilling over, as though laying a layer of white frost on the ground.
William Hale looked at her and took the initiative to speak, "You know everything."
"I guess I had some idea."
"Afraid?"
When William Hale’s expression turned stern, his thin lips tightly pursed, and his eyes appeared to frost over, "Do you regret meeting me, getting in my car?"
Zoe Bell hung her head, "I really do regret it."
William Hale’s gaze tightened, at that moment, it was as if a blade had pierced straight through his heart.
The blade twisted,
completely gutting his heart.
