Mrs Hale, I Surrender -

Chapter 103: 103 years old, show some dignity.
Zoe Bell took several deep breaths, trying to calm her breathing. Kyle Lowe noticed something was off and thought she was over-exercising and her legs were hurting, "You look pale, are you feeling unwell?"
"I’m fine."
"But..."
"Please go and get the medicine I bought—it should be ready by now." She restrained her emotions.
Kyle hesitated, but Zoe insisted, so he had no choice but to leave and reminded her to wait there for him to return.
She had heard from Wyatt Hale that William Hale had no other women around him.
He came from a distinguished background, at this age, and in a high position...
How could he not have encountered temptations.
It wouldn’t be strange for him to have a few close female friends.
So, when Lucas Bell said that William Hale liked her, she didn’t dare to ask, fearing she might end up humiliating herself.
Since it was a marriage of agreement, she ought to be sensible and measured.
She bowed her head and continued to eat, yet uncontrollably thought:
What did the woman by William Hale’s side look like? Her voice was soft and coquettish; surely, she must be beautiful. What exactly was their relationship?
A brief fling?
Or was it a long-term connection?
Zoe’s mind was flooded with countless wild thoughts.
Not until she felt someone sit opposite her did she look up, thinking it was Kyle returning, but it was someone unexpected.
"President Bell, this isn’t your seat."
The person was Kevin Bell.
Zoe, aside from practicing dance at home, frequented dance studios outside, and in Greenland, it was not hard to track her down.
Kevin grinned bitterly, dressed in a suit but with creases at the collar and sleeves, obviously unattended recently, his temples graying, looking weathered and weary.
A waiter came over to refill the water and asked if he wanted anything to eat.
"I don’t need anything." He smiled and shook his head.
"I’m not with him; please, could you move this gentleman to another table?" Zoe really didn’t want to share a table with him.
The waiter was a bit troubled, but still firmly suggested, "Sir, perhaps you could..."
"I’ll only take five minutes of your time!" Kevin Bell stared intently at Zoe.
"I know you don’t want to see me, don’t want to talk to me."
"But you should consider Lucas."
Zoe raised an eyebrow at him, "Only five minutes."
Kevin immediately smiled.
He looked her over from head to toe, elegant and beautiful, "You’ve been doing quite well recently?"
You mustn’t have sought me out just to ask how I’ve been," Zoe was sharp. After what Lucas mentioned about the Bell Family’s situation today, she could guess Kevin’s intentions.
"If you’re thinking I can save Bell Group, I’m powerless to help."
"But William Hale can!" Kevin hurriedly said.
"If he’s willing to help, there’s still hope for the company. I’m getting old, and the company will definitely go to Lucas eventually. You cutting ties with me is one thing, but do you truly not care about Lucas?"
"Lucas has been very good to you, hasn’t he? If the company goes bankrupt, he won’t have a good life either."
"Just help me this once..."
Kevin was truly out of options, that’s why he came to her.
He pursed his lips and after a long moment, managed to utter four words:
"Consider it me begging."
For him, saying the word "beg" to Zoe was incredibly difficult.
Zoe simply chuckled lowly: "You’ve heard the rumors out there."
"I’m just a plaything for Mr. Hale when he’s bored, something to pass the time."
"When he’s in a good mood, he gifts me a few sweet dates."
"If he’s in a bad mood or grows tired of me, I could be thrown out at any moment."
"Everything in the business world is interconnected, what right do I have to ask him to help you? Do you think he’d listen to me? You think too highly of me."
Kevin was taken aback.
Those words...
It seemed to make sense.
For William Hale, she was just a fling. If financial gains were involved, he would definitely abandon her.
Zoe Bell continued to smooth talk, "Besides, if I were to meddle in his business affairs, he’d certainly feel I’m overstepping. You and Ms. Lange are married and neither of you likes her meddling in the company’s affairs. With my relationship with Mr. Hale, how could I dare to make demands on him?"
Kevin Bell clenched his teeth, "The company really can’t hold on much longer, and we’ve even mortgaged the houses we live in."
"Why not just file for bankruptcy?"
"Impossible!"
Kevin Bell became suddenly agitated, then suddenly said, "You have money on you, right?"
Zoe Bell fiddled with the vegetable leaves in front of her, silent.
"Give me a million."
Zoe Bell found him rather ridiculous, that tone, expression, just as commanding as before, "Why should I give it to you?"
"I’ve raised you for so many years, after all."
"Including child support, I’ve paid you back everything."
"Even if I did you wrong, we’ve lived together for years, and you’ve always been a kind child..."
Zoe Bell laughed out loud, "Just because I’m too kind, I ended up in such a plight."
"Zoe, you’re a good kid. The Fletcher family relatives are clinging onto our house and refuse to leave. If we don’t give them some money to send them away, they won’t leave..."
Zoe Bell just looked at her phone, "President Bell, five minutes are up, please leave."
"Are you really that heartless!"
"I gave you five minutes, for Lucas’s sake."
Zoe Bell, already in a bad mood, put down her chopsticks, her gaze icy, "President Bell, at your age, show some shame."
"You..." Kevin Bell’s face twisted uncomfortably.
"When asking for favors, it’s better to be polite. Extending your hand to borrow money, yet so righteous, it looks..."
"Quite shameless."
Zoe Bell glimpsed Kyle Lowe returning, and stood up to leave.
Kevin Bell finally cornered her once, tried to stop her, but was frightened off by the formidable air around Kyle Lowe.
——
On the way back to Larkhill, Zoe Bell glanced out of the window, still not in high spirits.
Kyle Lowe thought it was because of Kevin Bell.
Until her phone rang, a call from William Hale.
Her heart fluttered slightly, she took a deep breath, maintained a smile, and answered the phone, "Hello."
"At home?"
"No, I had dinner outside, am on my way back." Zoe Bell bit her lip, then still asked, "Are you at the office?"
"I’m at home."
"The old house?"
"At my own place, Grandpa is nagging, too controlling, I mostly live in my own place."
"You live alone?" Zoe Bell asked casually.
"Who else?" William Hale, just woken up, his voice slightly hoarse, "How was the visit to the orphanage today?"
"Not bad, Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up, so I brought some toys and mooncakes, the kids were quite happy."
Zoe Bell tried to sound relaxed, but felt a sense of loss after hanging up the phone.
She could only keep telling herself:
Zoe Bell, learn to be content.
Mr. Hale has given you plenty already, you are just a wife by contract, don’t think too highly of yourself.
——
Meanwhile, inside Yarden
William Hale had just prepared coffee, his peripheral vision catching the person sitting on the high stool, he ignored her, directly headed back to the study to work.
That person, however, called out to him, "William Hale!"
"The door is right there, I have work, take care as you leave."
"..."
The woman wasn’t angered but merely supported her face with one hand, and spoke slowly, "Doesn’t your wife love you?"
