Chapter 76: Vengeful Nightmares

AiLin saw the mess around her. The men surrounding Lu Ping might appear frightening with how stern their expressions were but she knew better than anyone else of how these men might perhaps be one of the very few men in Beijing who AiLin didn’t feel uncomfortable seeing, knowing that they care so deeply for her best friend canary.

But that didn’t matter. What matters to her was the fact that Lu Ping had just called out her name. It was quite surprising considering even the Jiang Families hadn’t been able to guess who she was at once upon seeing her face. But Lu Ping’s was deadly pale, the fear in her eyes spoke volume of how she had expected this to happen as if it was her ongoing nightmare.

"No way... I knew it. You weren’t dead," whispered Lu Ping with a shudder gasp. "But how could this be? NianNian saw your body."

"She wasn’t familiar with me enough, even if it was someone else taking my appearance, would Jiang NianNian ever recognize me?" AiLin took a seat in front of Lu Ping and smiled as she saw how Lu Ping seemed to have finally realized that Canary’s boss who she feared so much is none other than the AiLin who she had made suffer through so much since high school of first year.

Gone was the color on Lu Ping’s face and seeing this made AiLin to smile. She reached out her hand to Canary, questioning, "Did she bring the wrong document?"

"No, but she lied," Canary responded with a click of her tongue. She then snapped her finger for the eldest of the bald subordinates pulled out a pink phone. "This is hers. Look at who she had messaged."

AiLin picked the phone and narrowed her eyes. The name was familiar, "OuYang."

"Yes, OuYang! The managerial of another loan shark. She promised that she would bring me to meet OuYang so OuYang could strike a deal with me. In exchange, he promised that he would make sure her debt be paid by him," Canary said with a cross of her arms.

"You’re really stupid aren’t you, Lu Ping?" Ailin sighed upon seeing the confusion on Lu Ping’s face. "Even now I can tell that you still haven’t gotten the slightest idea of what you almost did."

"W- What did I do?" Lu Ping’s fear caught her entire body and she knew better than to shout insults to AiLin. Deep down she questioned why AiLin would do this to her and even if she did bully AiLin back then, they were all children and this had happened so long ago in the past, it shouldn’t have mattered anymore!

"You almost killed Canary," AiLin stepped up from the chair and bent her left knee down. She then reached out her hand at Lu Ping’s neck and pulled her hair. She recalled that every day, every morning, Lu Ping will tell people to do this to her. "OuYang, yes. I remember him. He was one of your favorite followers back in High school. I remember him and I remembered how he would do anything for money. You don’t seem to see that despite being friends with him for decades now. OuYang didn’t want to ’talk’ with Canary. He wants to trap her in a secluded place and kill her. They’re both enemies. You don’t know this much?"

Lu Ping became even more severely startled finding out this fact. She realized why Canary was so mad now— it’s because she thought that she had a hand in OuYang’s plan to finish her off. In panic, she cried, "No! No! That wasn’t what I agreed on! He told me that it was a business matter that you two had known each other and that Canary had once rejected his offer so he wanted to raise the stake so she would accept the offer."

"Yes, that’s all a ruse, can’t you tell that much?" Canary clicked her tongue. "You’re right about what you have told me, AiLin. Seems like all your high school bullies are idiots who think backwards."

AiLin chuckled despite Lu Ping crying out for pain as she tightened her grip on her hair, "Will you be surprised if I tell you that she’s one of the smartest amongst them? In high school, you guys can reign. But now, you will understand the fearsome power of being an adult."

Since youth, AiLin has a notable image amongst everyone in the entire school. She’s cold, she’s severe, and she’s haughty. She wasn’t someone who would let bygones be bygones and that was why when every of her bullies found out she had been captured and put into prison for murder by arson, they were scared to their bones.

If that vengeful fox had skilled someone, why wouldn’t she kill the people who had wronged her during high school?

It was why Lu Ping had always dreamt a reoccurring nightmare. In it, she would see an odd woman coming toward her, chasing after her, and striking her down with a knife against her neck. She didn’t know that this would one day come to reality— that the time is now!

Bringing her hands in front of her chest into a prayer, tears dripped down Lu Ping’s eyes like two streams, "I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Ailin I’m sorry. I was wrong. I was still a child back then. I was influenced. I knew I shouldn’t have done what I did to you but I—"

"Do you remember what you did?" Ailin cut her off and saved her from the pathetic wailing. When Lu Ping failed to answer, horror set in. AiLin pulled her hair hard enough for her to try and claw her wrist, begging to be let go. But AiLin remained calm and unmoving even after Lu Ping’s nail scratching her thumb. "The person who had been hurt would remember what had been done to them but the perpetrators would never have the slightest idea of their own mistakes. When we were young. You always pushed my face down to the muddy ground. You even forced me to drink mud and puddles of rainwater. Tell me Lu Ping, what makes you think that I would forgive you if you apologize hard enough?"
