Chapter 63: Awkward Siblings
AiLin’s gaze fell on the blue bodied car with the silver interior and a maroon plush cushion. She looked at the number plate and made sure that the number plate was different than the one Jiangs Family had.
"I had seen these cars before," she told Li ZiChen, "The Jiang Family had them before too. They don’t look so well furnished or polished but I am sure they are the same type of cars."
"Yes, because we took it back from them," a word appeared from the man behind them. Li ZiChen was first to turn around and seeing his face, she followed his gaze to turn back and found a young man with a short buzz cut. His shirt was black and a chain of gold necklace settled above his collarbone. His lips were set firmly, his expression more serious despite his age being much younger than her or Li ZiChen. "Those ugly creatures lived because we gave them mercy but they know well to take advantage instead of being grateful. It was only right for us to take back what belonged to us."
AiLin stared at the young man in confusion. He had not only cut their conversation, meaning he had been around to listen and been waiting for their arrival, but his face also seemed like hers. She could find her own similarity in the young man in front of her and that felt a bit uncanny. She never knew that she would one day see someone so similar to her, breathing and alive.
When they met eye, the young man seemed as surprised as her. They both knew that they would be looking at each other today but they were both as surprised as the other when realizing that blood was really thicker than water when they see each other’s face.
"Young master Samuel," Li ZiChen called the young man’s name, breaking her long minutes of staring. She turned to Li ZiChen, her eyes questioning him and he nodded, telling her he knows what she was asking by his eyes and spoke to introduce, "This man in front of you is your younger brother. The only son of the family, Jiang Samuel."
AiLin greeted the young man with a smile, "I’m AiLin," she introduced with a smile and reached out her hand to him. She doesn’t know how one should act when meeting their long lost younger brother but seeing him, she felt a sense of familiarity. "It’s nice to meet you."
Samuel, however, took a very long time to comprehend her presence. His face appeared complicated but when he saw how AiLin’s shoulders drop as she felt tired for raising her hands for too long, he quickly reached his hand forward and returned her handshake. He introduced with his deeper voice, "Jiang Samuel, your younger brother by three years."
"I see," AiLin hummed, "We have three years difference."
Li ZiChen watched as the siblings try to navigate the awkwardness with excitement in their eyes.
"I have heard a lot about you," Samuel first talked, "How... have you been?" He then asked with hesitation. He then frown, regretting his words.
AiLin however didn’t mind the question and didn’t know that Samuel was frowning. She responded with ease, "It has been great. What about yours? I would like to hear more about your life."
Samuel raised his hand and settled it behind his exposed neck, "We have time. I can tell you everything you have been curious about."
"Brother Samuel!" Another familiar voice appeared. Someone jumped outside and reached her head forward. The face was none other than the adorable Vicky who AiLin had met yesterday.
The smile was wide but it completely dropped down when Vicky looked toward AiLin as they both stared into each other, curious and surprised.
"My younger sister, I mean, our younger sister," said Samuel after a while. He looked back at AiLin who was surprised by looking at Vicky and spoke in a hurry, "She’s adopted. Although our grandmother despise daughters, it was different with Vicky as she was born from our eldest’s uncle. But after our eldest uncle’s death, mother had took her under her wings for her protection."
AiLin blinked at the hurried words coming from Samuel. She realized that her younger brother must have been worried she would take it wrongly and demand explanation for why she had suffered so much when Vicky is now living a better life than her. But AiLin who had seen Vicky in the shopping mall knows well that Vicky didn’t quite live a better life than her.
"I’ve seen her before, yesterday," AiLin said with a smile, "Vicky, I didn’t expect we will see each other here."
They both stared at each other’s dress that they each had decided for each other. Smile blossomed on Vicky’s lips, "Oh goodness! I couldn’t believe this. I knew that we would be meeting our older sister today but if I had known it would be you," Vicky suddenly turned teary and she turned away to blink her eyes.
Li ZiChen smiled seeing all of this happening, his gaze then lowered to look how wide the smile that had appeared on AiLin’s lips although she seemed to not notice this at all. He then recalled the morning meeting he had with the psychiatrist: ’It would be best to bring her into an environment filled with only those who cares for her and those people who would express willingly their concern and love for her’
He thought to himself that this is the environment that is perhaps needed by AiLin for her betterment.
AiLin saw as Vicky walked closer. The girl’s eyes studied her and at first, AiLin felt apprehensive. All the gazes directed toward her was always so negative and pointed but Vicky’s smile became wider upon seeing her and she rushed to take her for an embrace. At first, AiLin’s hands hung over her shoulders and she turn, finding the smile on Li ZiChen’s lips that surprised her.
If his usual smile was full of trickery and mirth, this time his smile seemed very heartwarming.
He nudged his chin, asking her with his eyes ’why aren’t you hugging your sister back?’
AiLin was reminded and slowly wrapped her hands around Vicky, seeing from the corner of her eyes Samuel who was staring at her with a troubled look.
