Chapter 45: It’s Too Warm

As if he was stunned, Li YingYi, the younger Li, stared at her for a long time and then at her outstretched hand. He didn’t seem to be happy seeing her attitude and instead pulled his hands together, "I see so it seems that you are the real AiLin," yet instead of sounding happy, Li YingYi sounded more disappointed. He then shot a look at Li ZiChen which AiLin noticed wasn’t returned. Huffing, the younger brother then picked himself and looked at the jade vase he had broken, "I’ll pay for that. I’m sorry brother. I’ll go home now."

AiLin found how Li Yingyi was actually so quick on his feet as he retreated from the scene in measly three seconds and left the house in another five seconds, grabbing his shoes by his hand as he ran away instead of wearing it. He seemed to know better than anyone how explosive Li ZiChen’s anger could be.

Now left alone, AiLin felt awkward as hell. She turned to look at the mess of shattered jade instead, "I’ll take care of the mess. She trotted with her slipper and went to take the pieces with her bare hands when she felt her entire body lifted up and she was plopped down on the nearby couch in less than three seconds."

She gasped upon realizing how easy it was for Li ZiChen to grab and toss her around as if she was a sack of radishes.

"Don’t bother. You are gonna hurt your own hands," Li ZiChen instead went to take care of the mess while she watched as she couldn’t find herself fighting over cleaning it only to be dragged by her waist again as it was indeed embarrassing for a woman of her age to be hugged... hugged.

How many times had this man touched her?

AiLin just realized that although Li ZiChen had touched her body numerous times, he never went longer than five seconds. It was as if he had met her therapist and knew the amount of time she could touch a person was only for five seconds before she could be sent into a panic attack. It’s something she hadn’t told anyone. Something that even Canary aren’t aware of.

"Your brother doesn’t like me," said AiLin first as she gouged his expression.

She found this businessman who was known to have money that could cover an entire household seemed to be keen on cleaning his own house. He didn’t mind kneeling down back then at the bridge or removing his own shoes. So much so that she wondered if he was really born with a golden spoon as he seemed to be too down to earth.

"I’ll teach him how to behave," he said dangerously.

"What? No. I’m not telling you to go and beat your brother," she said with a huff, "Why do you like violence?"

"I wasn’t going to teach him by beating him up. As I told you, I don’t like raising my hand on him either, he had just gone too far today," Li ZiChen said as he tucked the pieces clean into a bag of trash. Those jades would be worth millions even after shattered but Li ZiChen didn’t seem to care about it as he had tossed it to a plain trash bag with zero concern.

"But he was just worried."

"He is my younger brother," Li ZiChen said with a sigh, "I was the one who he grew up watching from yet he kept on making wrong decisions and gathering with the wrong crowd. Sometimes I need to be tough to make sure he will learn his mistake and not repeat it. I’m sorry it ruined your day though. Seeing violence the first thing in the morning must have made you felt terrible."

He didn’t need to apologize but hearing it from his mouth made her feel somewhat touched and happy. She didn’t know that an apology would soothe her heart so easily even though he wasn’t the one who had caused her heart to be so weak.

AiLin smiled, "Hey come on, I grew up in a house of violence, this much is nothing," she joked but it seemed her joke fell flat seeing how Li ZiChen seemed more frowny than before. "Okay, okay forget it. I want to go out of the house today, can I?"

"You’re not kept here, you can go anytime you want," Li ZiChen reminded and AiLin rubbed her head.

That’s true. Why did she even ask him for permission? Is it because she didn’t want to see his face covered in paleness of worries again as he did last night when he searched for her at the bridge?

"Well uh, true," AiLin then trotted back to her room, "You’re going to go work now?"

"Yes, anything you need?" Li ZiChen inquired as if he was ready to give her anything she wants. She pursed her lips and shook her head.

"Nothing," she didn’t know what she should say and felt awkward but Li ZiChen felt rather relaxed than ever. "Good luck at work," she said in a hurry before closing the door behind her. It frustrated her heart when she heard a sound of small laughter coming from Li ZiChen outside her room, causing her to beat her own chest to calm it down.

This house is comfy and safe. But not safe enough for separating her with Li ZiChen. Every time she tried to build a wall between them, he smoothly pushed it down, breaking her in, and in some senses she should be happy. But once she realized the distance had been shortened an ugly feeling of guilt and anxiety filled her heart.

AiLin rushed to the cupboard beside her bed, opening a bottle of medicine which she took quickly to her hand. After downing a pill, she felt her own heart calming down. She then stared at the wall for a couple of seconds, shutting her eyes as she told herself that she couldn’t dragged someone down again and destroy their lives.

Like she did to the boy who was the father of her angel baby...
