Chapter 245: It’s Called Emptiness

Chapter 245: It’s Called Emptiness

Li ZiChen hadn’t got out of the hospital. He wouldn’t want to as he was going to wait for AiLin to wake up from the hospital’s bed. He looked at his watch and then heard the seventeenth calls that had rang to his phone. This time, it had came from YanLan which he had picked up. He could listen YanLan’s frustration from the other end as he spoke up, "I tried to gather all the phones I could get for now. But there are still a few who managed to send the video to their friends. I could only expect that it wouldn’t be soon for that video to go viral in the internet."

"If it is another video that would be good but no one would want to have the video of their meltdown and PTSD episode spread all over the world," Li ZiChen said, considering it in her head, "Make sure that it’s gone from all the internet, block it no matter what. We have the money to do so."

"Alright, I can block most but I’m not too sure about the personal video that would be running around."

"The more money they get the less they would speak up about it," he answered and after a while they ended the call. Li ZiChen went ahead and call the news station, hearing that though they had managed to stop the video from running all over the place, there are people who had seen it and articles made about it.

Some were positives, some which was only a handful. But the negatives one were the most concerning ones as they were pushing narratives on what had happened.

[Actress who plays the main lead of "Death By Your Hands" had an immense breakdown due to the stress work]

The comments went wild.

[Anon 1727: That’s what you get for hiring a newbie actress lololol, should’ve chosen someone more capable.]

[Anon 090289: How hard could acting be? That screaming was intense and she was hysteric. Rather than stress, it looks like she was drunk the other night and came to the set. Maybe instead of drinking she’s high??]

[Anon 826368: They said she’s really good at acting that’s why she’s chosen despite being a newbie, maybe this is only a spoiler from behind the scene while she’s acting?]

[Anon 34627: Replying from the upper comment: I don’t think that this is part of the scene. I don’t remember this scene despite reading the novel for the 900th time. Pretty sure it was the actress’s meltdown. Plus her screaming and crying felt too real. Someone new couldn’t act so good, I’m sure.]

[Anon26262: Replying from the upper comment: True plus we don’t know who she is or even their name lololol. Something must have happened and that hysteria could really be from drugs.]

[Anon 65565: Replying from the upper comment: I heard that the actress faced bullying inside the acting set. My friend is one of the loyal staffs there and told this to me. She said the actress is actually a very nice person but ppl in the filming production doesn’t like her. Maybe this is one of the time when she breaks down due to the immense bullying.]

[Anon 4342009: Replying from upper comment: Even if it is really caused by bullying she should have been tougher lol. Everyone gets bullied in their workplace but none have such a loud meltdown in front of the cameras. She’s an adult for god sake, act like one???]

Li ZiChen almost threw his phone and he held back by holding to it tightly. Tight enough to cause his phone to bend slightly.

He couldn’t stop some of the articles running around and the narrative was to say that she was deemed unprofessional and

a burden on set. The ignorance of these people made his blood boil. They had no idea, no damn idea, what AiLin had been through, what horrors had clawed their way back into her mind to make her collapse like that. It was true that people who doesn’t see or know too much would make their own judgement and thoughts but reading it made him even more infuriated.

His jaw clenched, muscles tightening with frustration.

"Unprofessional?" he muttered under his breath. "A burden?"

The very thought of AiLin being painted that way, reduced to a few lines of speculation by people who had never spent a second in her shoes, made something cold and violent settle in his chest.

He exhaled sharply, forcing himself to think. He couldn’t just react, he needed to act.

First, damage control.

He speed dialed YanLan again, his voice clipped. "Get our PR team on this. I want every major platform flooded with positive narratives. Speak to the director, the cast, anyone with credibility who can vouch for her professionalism and talent. If someone was bullying her, I want names. Now."

YanLan hesitated. "Zichen, this is bad. Some of the bigger media outlets are already picking up on the rumors. If we don’t give them an official statement, the speculation will get worse."

"Then give them one," Li ZiChen snapped. "Make it clear that AiLin was not unprofessional, she was not on drugs, and anyone spreading those lies will be facing a lawsuit. I want defamation charges ready if necessary."

A pause. Then YanLan sighed. "Alright. I’ll handle it."

Li ZiChen ended the call and forced himself to take a breath.

He had handled countless crises before, business deals falling apart, hostile takeovers, scandals within his own family. But this felt different.

This wasn’t about money or reputation.

This was AiLin.

And the thought of her waking up to see her worst moment turned into a public spectacle made his stomach churn.

His mind raced. He need to do something about this, make sure that her name would be washed clear and that nothing would ever come to hurt her image, be it rumors or ugly truths.

He had to do something. The problem was that though AiLin’s acting was real and good, people doesn’t know it since the movie trailer hadn’t gotten out yet. If they don’t see the extent of her acting, she would have no supporters which was partly the reason why everyone had been so much partial in thinking she was incapable of her role than to trust her with it.

He glanced toward the hospital room, where she lay unconscious, still caught in the aftermath of a battle only she could see. It wasn’t enough to protect her from the outside world.

He had to make sure she never felt alone in this fight.

"I promise," Li ZiChen muttered, "When you wake up, every part of the world will be on your side. I will make sure of it."

Li ZiChen then stood up from the seat, making his way out of the hospital briefly. Though he dislike the idea of leaving her alone, he needed to make sure that when she wakes up the world would bend to her. No matter what it took.

He was also reminded of the person behind this. If pinpointing one was too difficult, he would simply cause chaos on everyone who were aware of what had happened to her that day.

"Haha," Li ZiChen laughed dryly. So this was what it took to cause all hell in him set loose.

Madam Hua and Vicky had sat beside AiLin in the hospital room, taking care of her. When night fell, Madam Hua was alone beside her bed, holding her hands, tears falling from her eyes as she felt that she was the one who had caused all of this. What was the good of being smart or rich when you couldn’t even protect your own daughter?

The woman prayed in her heart promising to God everything if she could take away AiLin’s sadness.

Hours passed and it turned to the next day.

At eleven the next morning, AiLin woke up drowsily.

She sat up from the bed, confused by the warmth on her hands only to see Madam Hua who had fallen asleep while holding her hands. She questioned why but she felt numb. It was as if she wasn’t in control of her body anymore. She slowly moved her hands from Valentine’s hands and dropped her feet down the hospital bed.

She then stood beside the window, staring at it and saw something that caught her eyes. After seeing that, she walked bare foot from the place, leaving the room open and making her way to the elevator.

As it was early many people had came to the hospital and none really took notice of AiLin as her face was fresh like someone who was getting better from an illness.

The elevator briefly stopped at a floor and came a couple holding a newborn baby on their arms alongside their family. They were giggling, looking at each other lovingly and then back at the small baby.

AiLin watched this from the corner.

And then she saw the mother of the woman patting her back, as if to encourage her.

The couple left the elevator after that and more people left as the elevator ascended upward. It continue moving until it was at the balcony of the hospital. AiLin stood in front of it as the bright light greeted her.

She was now face in face with the wide blue sky and the cold sensation of biting wind at the highest floor of the building.
