Mrs Fox Heinous Revenge: Can You Love A Villainess like Me? -
Chapter 235: Laid Traps
Chapter 235: Laid Traps
"Of course I do!" Mrs Jiang slammed her hands on the table, the anger made her ready to leave only to stop when she recalled how much she needed the money that Canary could offer. She clenched her jaw, tightening her grasp on her purse which loosened as she didn’t want to leave marks on this purse which was her last one.
"Please, don’t be so upset," Canary returned to her calm tone, "I was merely curious where you had gotten it and the question about whether you love your daughter wasn’t to doubt you. It’s just these days there are mothers who would even sell her daughters to old wealthy man."
Mrs Jiang raised her eyebrows, "Do you think I look like that sort of mother?"
Yes,
"No," Canary answered quickly with a faint chuckle, "However you don’t have to be so uptight Mrs Jiang. Sure, you are currently desperate for money but there are many people who is also in your position, or maybe even worse than you."
Narrowing her eyes, Mrs Jiang’s anger disappeared in a fizz. She looked at Canary who seemed to know more about the wealthy ladies of the socialites and what they had to do to keep up their lifestyle.
"Is it someone I know?" Mrs Jiang inquired, impatiently tapping her finger on the table.
"Of course! Do you know.. hm, Mrs Cao? Her husband is indeed rich but he’s a player so he used most of his money for his mistress, leaving her with nothing."
"I know about that, Mrs Cao’s husband does have a mistress and he pampers her a lot but Mrs Cao wasn’t left with nothing. I saw her bag yesterday and the new set of diamonds she just purchased."
Canary let out a laugh as if it was the funniest thing she had ever heard, "Of course but that wasn’t from her husband Mr Cao. She has three daughters and as you know one of them have left the house recently, why do you think so?"
As Canary had mentioned about it earlier, Mrs Jiang didn’t have to try hard to guess, her words spilling from her mouth, "She sold her daughter?"
"Yeah! Abhorrent, well smart though," shrugged Canary as she tapped the end of her burning cigarette and blew the smoke over Mrs Jiang whose face turned stern in a ponder. "The man who had provided her with all her luxuries is known to spoil his mistress a lot. He does like young girls, but I heard he also like Mrs Cao. But you know how these type of men operate don’t you? Their M.O is often to play around and toss when they’re bored. I doubt Mrs Cao want to get serious with him. Her husband lacks in all sort of stuff but the house she lives in, that mansion, is something that she couldn’t work to buy for."
It was difficult for Mrs Jiang not to be swayed by Canary’s words. Although it seemed as if Canary was simply sharing the gossip she had heard to Mrs Jiang’s ears, it sounded like a feasible opportunity. Her husband has always been ugly, even sleeping with him was such a turn off she would rather not think about it. Now that he doesn’t even have the money for her lifestyle, was going with a man worse looking than him a bad idea?
No.
Instead it sounded better to her.
"Regardless, this wasn’t why you came here," Canary then pull out her bag, placing it on top of the table, "The money you want," she nudged with her chin, "That’s it. Don’t forget to pay on time Mrs Jiang. There was someone who came to me last time, borrowing money upon more money only to not pay me in the end and even tried to run away," she sighed. "They don’t know what I could do in order to get my money back so I wish you don’t make the same mistake."
Mrs Jiang stared at the money, gulping aloud before placing her hand on the duffle bag and taking it with her. She held it tight, her eyes staring at the money which she then see from the gap of the zipper that turned her lips upward into a wide grin.
"By the way," Mrs Jiang then asked, "Who was the man you mentioned earlier?"
Smiling Canary took another breath from the cigarette, answering with a chuckle, "I can tell you. There is a lot, you can send me a text and I’ll reply to it in details."
Mrs Jiang was embarrassed but in front of wealth and money, those feelings of embarrassment was gone almost immediately. She could only see the goal of her life which was to have enough money for her to buy all those luxurious items that she could only stare, the life of a Queen she had dreamt of.
She left the cafe with that widest smile, skipping in joy, her smile wider, her ego burns even brighter.
Canary then stood from the place, walking two steps forward to stop at the chair AiLin had sat on. She extenguished the cigarette, knowing how AiLin doesn’t like the smoke. She leaned forward, look at her and then lifted her hair with her little finger. Her red lips smiling as she looked at AiLin’s complexion which was much better than ever.
"Why the serious look. You should be happy that she took the bait, no?"
AiLin slowly looked at Canary, her gaze stern as she clenched her hands around her wrist, "I don’t know why, but I feel something is off with you these days Canary. Are you sure everything is going well?"
Canary’s eyes flickered and she let out a laugh, "What do you mean? Of course if there is something that doesn’t go well, I will let you know about it."
But AiLin shook her head, "Not about my plan or our goal. But you. Have you found your mother’s family?"
Canary who was forced to speak finally took a seat. She looked at the coffee AiLin hadn’t drank and sighed again, "No, I haven’t. But it’s fine, that’s not the most important thing."
"Alright, that’s not important," she answered, "What about you suddenly disappearing at times? You haven’t told me where you went."
"AiLin," Canary smiled but her tone dimmed, "Do I have to tell you wherever I go to? Do you not trust me?"
"I trust you," AiLin said firmly, staring back at her eyes, "But you also have secrets you’re hiding when it comes to yourself. Do you trust me?"
Canary saw AiLin’s unwavering gaze and felt something tighten in her chest.
For the longest time, it had always been the two of them, standing side by side, understanding each other without the need for words. But now, AiLin was looking at her differently, not as an accomplice, not as a partner, but as someone truly worried.
Canary exhaled slowly, tilting her head as if in thought. "That’s unfair, AiLin. You’re asking if I trust you, but you’re also demanding answers I might not be ready to give."
AiLin didn’t back down. "I’m not demanding. I’m asking as a friend."
Canary let out a short laugh, but it lacked its usual liveliness. "A friend, huh?" She tapped her fingers against the wooden table, eyes distant. "It’s funny, isn’t it? You and I, talking about trust, when we’re built on secrets and revenge."
AiLin frowned but remained silent.
Canary finally met her gaze, her expression unreadable. "I do trust you, AiLin. But some truths... once spoken, can’t be taken back." She reached for the cup of coffee, but instead of drinking it, she simply held it, letting the warmth seep into her fingers.
AiLin studied her closely, sensing the weight behind her words. "Are you in trouble?"
Canary’s lips parted slightly, as if she might finally say something real, but then, just as quickly, she shut them, smiling instead. "Nothing I can’t handle."
That smile. AiLin had seen it before. It was the same one she wore when she was hiding something.
And that only made AiLin more determined to find out what it was.
"You won’t tell me," AiLin pursed her lips with a frown and seeing it, Canary raised her hand, flicking her forehead.
"Not now, I’ll let you know when I need your help. Don’t worry, you’re the only one I can trust," as she sat down deeper to the couch, she changed the conversation, "What do you think about Mrs. Jiang? As you say, I think she really have a bad habit of spending money excessively. But that amount of money isn’t too much."
"It isn’t," AiLin agreed, "But the problem isn’t the amount, it’s the fact that she never thought she’d have to pay it back. People like Mrs. Jiang believe they can always find another way to escape the consequences. Whether it’s through manipulation, connections, or playing the victim, they never expect to truly fall."
Canary hummed in thought, tapping her nails against the ceramic coffee cup. "So you think she still has a way out?"
AiLin smirked. "Not this time. She’s cornered. The families she scammed are demanding refunds, her husband is furious, and she’s too desperate to think clearly. If we push her just a little more, she’ll start making mistakes."
"Desperation makes people reckless," Canary mused. "And reckless people are easy to destroy."
AiLin leaned forward, her voice low. "Exactly. She’ll try to sell off assets, beg for loans, maybe even turn on her so-called friends. But none of that will save her. Not when we control the narrative."
Canary chuckled, but there was no warmth in it. "You really don’t intend to let her crawl out of this, do you?"
AiLin’s eyes darkened. "Did she ever let me crawl out when I was the one suffering?"
Canary tilted her head, watching AiLin carefully. "And if she begs?"
AiLin’s lips curled into a cruel smile. "Then I’ll watch."
