Chapter 227: Win Win Situation

Xiao MuChen was just taking a drink when he found LiAi already gone from his hands. He had panicked and went around to search for her, but soon, when he saw her around AiLin, did he understand that she must have seen AiLin from afar and had gotten lost on purpose so she could be with her.

This should have been a good thing, after all, AiLin is indeed a good adult and a responsible one. She had taken care of LiAi when she was lost before and had done it with such care that everyone would know the best person to take care of LiAi would be AiLin herself. But Xiao MuChen couldn’t be at peace.

In his entire life, if there was one person he wished wouldn’t have seen LiAi, it would have been AiLin.

He would do anything if it meant separating AiLin from LiAi as she’s dangerous to his beloved niece.

When he had met MengYan, his older brother’s savior, the two had the exact same thought. "Shit!"

"How could this happen?" MengYan had asked him, Elder Hua was still making her speech, and they had listened to it with dread. MengYan whispered to him again amidst the silence. "Since when has this happened?"

"In my newest movie," Xiao MuChen seemed to regret the words he had just spoken out but he swallowed hard and continued, "It turns out that AiLin have chosen to become an actress. She had easily won over directors with her acting."

"It’s a coincidence?" Meng Yan frowned at the thought that everything happened accidentally. It didn’t feel anywhere accidental to him and he knew well that things that happened coincidentally usually were simply tricked to look as if they ocured in an accident.

"With Li ZiChen... it just doesn’t feel like an accident," continued MengYan with his lips pursed. The last time he had believed things to be an accident was when his brother and sister in law’s death. But even that accident seemed to be too fishy to be marked off as a simple "accident."

"I thought so too," answered Xiao MuChen, "But it didn’t seem like AiLin knew about it."

Sighing, the older man ruffled his hair, swiping it to the back of his head, "Then let’s bring back LiAi. As I thought, it would be a better idea if we send LiAi to study abroad."

"I can’t let her to go alone," said Xiao MuChen, "It will only work once I make a break through in this movie. Then maybe after that I can build a career somewhere far from here."

Nodding, MengYan agreed, "Maybe that would be a better idea. Remember Mu Chen. The reason why we avoid AiLin isn’t because of her, she’s a good person but... the people around her aren’t. Not only that but you are aware of how crazy and deadly they are, aren’t you?"

Recalling AiLin’s interactions with LiAi made Xiao MuChen to purse his lips. He knew well that both of them had enjoyed each other’s company so much that they were happy to see each other every time they could.

But... what has been abandoned shouldn’t be taken back.

Nodding his head, Xiao MuChen exhaled, "Let’s first pick up LiAi." agreeing with him, MengYan walked behind him as they made their way to the swarm of people who had once again lit up the atmosphere as though the eerie silence they spell out earlier was nothing but an imagination.

He could see from afar that AiLin was talking to Li ZiChen. While she speaks, Li ZiChen’s cold almond eyes read her expression and though his gaze seemed to have softened, it still put Xiao MuChen at ill ease.

The first time he had seen Li ZiChen was when they were in high school. He recalled it well how that high school boy who was taller than his peers had beaten up a group of senior until his knuckles were dripping with blood. He almost didn’t appear like a human, as if he’s nothing but a beast trying to pretend to be a human.

Until now, seeing Li ZiChen still made the hairs on his neck to stand but he needed to pretend as if everything was normal so Li ZiChen wouldn’t pick up on his odd behavior, knowing well that the man in front of him was particularly adept in reading one’s movements.

"Miss AiLin," said Xiao MuChen, greeting from behind them. AiLin turned her eyes and looked at him which was followed by Li ZiChen. When the sharp gaze landed on his face, Xiao MuChen stiffened. A drop of sweat covered his forehead as he pretended to smile. "Thank you so much for taking care of LiAi again. Once I realized it, she was gone..."

AiLin was surprised to see Mu Chen and so she shook her head, smiling, "It’s fine, but you need to hold her hands tighter. This party is indeed en elegant one but the people here, most of them are dangerous," she shook her head.

"Right," Xiao MuChen agreed, "LiAi come here," he then outstretched his hands but LiAi who was staring at Li ZiChen shook her head and instead hid behind his long legs away from her uncle.

"Uncleee," she spoke adorably, "Can I spend a few more time with daddy and mama?"

"Da- they’re not your parents, LiAi," Xiao MuChen’s voice came out harsh upon hearing what LiAi had called Li ZiChen as. "Now come here-"

"-Well calm down, MuChen," MengYan said as he walked from behind him, holding to his shoulder in a small pat, "LiAi, remember this old uncle?"

"Uncle Su!" LiAi said despite being a bit scared of Xiao MuChen’s frown. "I will just spend the time a bit more here uncle... please?"

Xiao MuChen clenched his fists at LiAi’s innocent plea. His sharp gaze flickered toward AiLin and Li ZiChen, both of whom remained composed, unreadable. AiLin’s gentle expression held no malice, but Li ZiChen... that man had never been easy to decipher. He exuded a quiet danger, his presence alone unsettling. Xiao MuChen couldn’t shake the feeling that letting LiAi stay with them any longer would be a mistake.

MengYan, sensing the tension, let out a chuckle and crouched down to meet LiAi’s wide, hopeful eyes. "Of course, you can little baby," he said, ruffling her hair. "But your Uncle MuChen is right, you shouldn’t run off like that. Next time, tell him first, okay?"

LiAi pouted but nodded reluctantly. She turned her gaze up at Li ZiChen and AiLin, still clutching onto the edge of Li ZiChen’s coat.

Xiao MuChen had frowned upon hearing that MengYan had simply allowed LiAi to spend more time with them when he had initially disagreed their meeting to be a good idea.

"LiAi," said Xiao MuChen when suddenly Li ZiChen had bent down and picked LiAi to his arms.

The sight of the usually impassive Li ZiChen hugging a little girl to his arms was an odd view, odd enough that it made many people’s eyes to bulge upon the scene. Looking at the little girl, Li ZiChen offered her a smile, "Don’t worry, Mister Xiao, I used to take care of my younger brother alone. Let’s just wait until she got tired and fall asleep."

This was odd. Xiao MuChen didn’t remember Li ZiChen to be this kind of man. Was he always like this? Not as cold and unapproachable as he had recalled?

"Well," MengYan cut in between, smiling in an unreadable mention, "We will bother you a little then. LiAi don’t make more trouble and listen well to that handsome uncle okay?"

"Mhm!" LiAi chuckled as he looked at Li ZiChen in a closer look. She tilted her head and poked his cheek yet despite this, Li ZiChen didn’t drop his smile, knowing well that a little baby would cry seeing his cold expression.

He was instantly reminded by Li JingYi and how he was also as tall as LiAi when they were about the same age. JingYi had always grew slower than his peers but that was exactly the one adorable thing about his brother, well until he grew up and turn rebellious then refuse to follow his advices.

Li JingYi’s eyes were also quite similar to LiAi, brown but not too light like his own, a soft hair that was straight that had been tied into a pony tail.

AiLin who saw this was impressed. She had always thought how unlucky she would be as she loved children but wouldn’t want to settle down after what had happened but seeing Li ZiChen paired with a lovely little girl, she could only think of the expression he would have when they have their own family. It would be lovely, she thought in her head, and Li ZiChen would make such a fine father.

"Miss AiLin was it?" MengYan started, reaching out his hands, "Have I introduced myself?"

AiLin turned and looked at him, the man was around the age of forty, a little gray hair on the side of his head and was dressed well in a tailored suit. The one thing that caught her eyes wasn’t his appearance but his surname which is "Su"

"I don’t think I have known you before."

MengYan nodded, so it’s true, AiLin doesn’t remember him.

"I’m Su MengYan, I was your teacher once in high school."
