Chapter 138: Orphanage Caretakers—II

AiLin was humming to a song as she barged into Canary’s office. She saw the five twins and was happy to see them in safe and healthy conditions after their last adventure to OuYang’s building. She chuckled seeing how they were all eager to tell her what had happened that night and how they had helped Canary. They spoke so well about her best friend and she could feel those five twins always think of Canary as their little sister and that touched her heart.

While she was sitting with a cup of coffee offered by the elder twin, the other two twins behind her sofa was discussing something in a "murmur".

They were speaking in tender and gentle tone, hushing it slowly into a faint whisper. But Canary’s office wasn’t exactly spacious. These large men also have loud voice and even if they try to hush, they couldn’t hush it too well. Moreover, they didn’t seem to be trying their best to actually "murmur" this gossip. She could tell as they usually would have left the room to discuss something important but they just had to do it near her, behind her, in a voice loud enough for her ears to catch.

She pretended not to notice their acts while the elder twin sat in front of her, smiling pretending not to hear as well. The rest had left the room, setting up a perfect "Accidental gossip slip up— oops! I didn’t mean to say that" scenario.

AiLin was focused on her ears as the twins muttered, "That’s what I heard from Boss Canary’s phone!"

One of the twin was gentler than the other, not only his voice but his words and tone.

"I also heard it! Something about an orphanage?"

"It’s not new for Boss Canary to give her money to charity, especially to orphanage but this is different," whispered the one gentler twin. "But two days ago, she was speaking to the orphanage caretakers and they didn’t sound nice.. they sound demanding for her to give them money!"

"Are you sure those are the orphanage caretakers?"

"I do! I do! I’m sure because I saw before Boss Canary pick up the phone that the name of the caller was ’orphanage caretake—"

He couldn’t finish his words when he felt his arms pulled and turned slightly to find AiLin who had pulled him by the elbow from the sofa. She had climbed one leg and pulled the gentler twin towards her. In her eyes were burning flames and a sudden anger rose from the pit of her stomach. "When did it happen?"

"T- Two days ago."

"That wasn’t an orphanage caretakers.." AiLin bite down her lower lips. She looked at the door to make sure Canary isn’t here yet and then spoke to the twins, "The voice you heard was it from a man?"

The twins nodded, all three of them.

"You see, Canary was sold by her mother to a man," AiLin didn’t wish to say this but she needed to give these men a background when they see Canary as their own family. "Basically it’s human trafficking but the police never looked deep into it because the man involved in question is someone who has a high backing up from the authorities. That man took in children that were sold by young women who couldn’t bear to take care of their own children any longer. That’s why his name is ’orphanage caretaker’. But..."

This was what made her felt this all like a wild fever dream.

"Canary killed him already," she remarked with her fists bundled up. "The reason why she was sent to prison was for killing that man. He had immense authority and she could have gotten a death sentence if not for a kind famous lawyer." She pulled her thumb and bite it as she continued to ponder. "The only person left in Canary’s target is that man’s best friend. I reckon he was one of the person who was controlling that trafficking group."

The eldest stood up, he crossed his arms and fell into a ponder. He spoke with his gruff voice in an intense expression, "We had known about the trafficking and about her mother. But we didn’t know there was still more danger in Boss’s life. Thank you sincerely Boss AiLin for telling this to us. We will make sure to keep an eye on Boss now and help her before anything goes awry."

"Stop." AiLin raised her hands and the three twins sat in front of her at once. "Do you guys know what Canary will do?"

"It’s easy to guess," the gentler twins answered.

The middle one responded, "For certain Boss will choose to—"

"—Kill that man," answered the eldest.

"Exactly. I am for one, not someone who would stop her from killing the person who had caused her misery. I want to support her," the three twins were also from a harsh background where they live alongside murders and so they weren’t exactly the type of people that one would associate with good intentions. They didn’t also think of stopping Canary or to sway her mind into not killing that trash bag. They were all people who had came from a resort of miseries and sufferings, so at once, they all came up with the same thoughts, which was to help Canary.

But AiLin didn’t want to do her help "half assed". First off she was a little irked to find out that Canary hadn’t told her anything about finding this "orphanage caretaker". She couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t tell her but after a few time in a silent ponder, it wasn’t too difficult to guess.

It wasn’t that Canary didn’t want to ask her help. They both never hesitate to ask each other’s help in pretense of shyness or not wanting to bother each other.

So this means, Canary couldn’t do it. She "couldn’t" ask her help.

There was only a fee time when Canary would be put in a headlock and it’s only when it involve children.

"There’s someone Canary is trying to protect. If we do things unplanned, the worst that could happen is that we instead put someone in harm, the person who Canary is trying to protect."
