Mrs. and Mr. Smith -
Chapter 2606 - 2604: Change
Chapter 2606: Chapter 2604: Change
Ethan Smith donned the cloak, and unexpectedly discovered that it could completely conceal his presence, preventing others from scouting him.
"When heading out this time, be sure to use the mirror to record everything that happens. Sending the recon information back to the city will surely result in severe injuries."
An officer loudly addressed all the people.
"There are three secret passages leading out of the city that reach the forest within a kilometer of the enemy camp. Shortly, the city’s cavalrymen will venture out to provoke the enemy camp, diverting their attention. Once you hear the sound of battle, set off at once."
The officer meticulously arranged all the tasks.
At his command, another group of elite members of the Supervising Battle Team disappeared into different passages.
The officer watched from the side, seemingly not imposing any restrictions on which passage to take.
Almost everyone instinctively looked at Yvelise Ayers, including the two demon race members from before.
Although they didn’t hand over anything, the power demonstrated by that chessboard could still be tasted.
Yvelise Ayers closed his eyes, ignoring the crowd.
Countless light spheres of different shapes entered the chessboard in his hand, which emitted various glossy tracks, though no one could understand them.
"I’ll choose the third path,"
Ethan Smith remarked with a cold smile, disregarding Yvelise Ayers and jumped right into the third path.
West Hill followed Ethan Smith without hesitation, and shortly after, Grayson and Magnus also joined.
"You have ten seconds left."
The officer remarked indifferently to the crowd.
"I’ll choose the middle path, but I won’t go first."
Yvelise Ayers said with a light smile.
Ten.
Nine.
...
Two.
One.
Obviously, he didn’t want others to know which path he chose. As the countdown hit one.
Most here chose the second passage down, while two others stayed at the tunnel entrance, waiting for Yvelise Ayers’ final choice.
Zero!
With the last call, a crisp metallic sound of a blade being drawn rang out.
The heads of two men soared up, and Yvelise Ayers had already closed his eyes at the last sound.
He held the chessboard before his neck and with the force of blade energy, rolled into the third passage.
Meanwhile, within this narrow passage, Ethan Smith and his companions were advancing slowly.
The dark and damp cave carried a stench that seemed like corpses rotting for many days, making one nauseous.
"Brother Ethan, why didn’t we wait for Yvelise Ayers’s chessboard deduction before coming down together?"
West Hill questioned Ethan Smith with some confusion.
Though he couldn’t comprehend it entirely, he knew the chessboard was akin to the Taoist Path of Deduction, somewhat helping to avoid calamity.
If they could follow Yvelise Ayers, that’d be ideal.
"The Path of Deduction only reveals some probabilities. Even if he could deduce future fate, the thin sliver of opportunity and gain would surely be reserved for Yvelise Ayers himself. It’s better to rely on one’s own power to seek a path to survival."
Ethan Smith shook his head.
Initially, he thought of cooperating with Yvelise Ayers, but fate and chessboard deduction, even adding one more person would change the outcome unpredictably.
Basically, while the first path might have been the path to survival, when so many entered, the chessboard result would inevitably change.
It’s similar to Ethan Smith’s earlier Eight Trigrams Deduction, and even Yvelise Ayers wouldn’t fully trust others. Thus, it was better to take action independently to seize a chance at life.
Everyone was wrapped in the cloak as they gradually moved forward.
Meanwhile, Ethan Smith sensed a barrier-like force suddenly enveloping them.
A trace of ominous power, in Ethan Smith’s Nine Heavens Condensing Pupil, a ghost-like energy suddenly perched on his shoulder.
Grayson also sensed it, ready to strike the ghost with a reverse blade slash.
"Do not act; that guy has arrived."
Ethan Smith furrowed his brows and stated.
He saw Yvelise Ayers holding a candle walking over, invisible to the naked eye.
But under the Condensed Pupil, the burning candle was visible, creating a bizarre scene.
"Soul Candle, it’s the mystery I exchanged this time. Within the candle’s range, Saifu won’t detect us, but if substantial vibrations occur, it’s uncertain."
Yvelise Ayers spoke calmly.
"But this candle isn’t lit,"
West Hill remarked with puzzlement.
Ethan Smith hushed West Hill and asked Yvelise Ayers.
"Why choose this path?"
"I only chose the path with the greatest hope. If relying solely on the cloak, it would be a dead end upon exiting; the cloak alone cannot evade Saifu’s detection."
Yvelise Ayers squinted and replied.
At that moment, with the burning Soul Candle, the emitted aura penetrated their nostrils, their bodies began to reek foully.
"If you truly wish to cooperate, don’t play tricks, or I’ll risk everything to take your life,"
Ethan Smith stated indifferently.
"Understood, staying with you will most effectively animate this chessboard. I indeed need your protection. A reminder: the Soul Candle’s effect is only valid within a hundred meters. Beyond that, Saifu will instantly sense us, marking our demise. Moreover, there are only three candles; we need to achieve enough merits before they burn out." )
Yvelise Ayers was not angered by Ethan Smith’s words, offering a gentle explanation.
Besides Ethan Smith, Grayson, Magnus, West Hill, Yvelise Ayers, there were also Drethin Lynos and two others here.
They coincidentally chose this path, seeing Yvelise Ayers finally settled here, showing a slight joy on their faces.
At the path’s nearly end, Ethan Smith slowed his steps.
Now, the Ogre-Trolls’ heavy footsteps could be heard alongside loud sounds of exchange.
Droplets of sticky fluid fell from the soil, soaking into their hair, clothes, even faces.
Uncertain if these fluids were saliva or something else.
Ethan Smith ignored his disgust. Above them were more than a dozen ogres, with no Ogre-Trolls present.
His Condensed Pupil could now see around thirty meters, Ethan Smith paced back and forth, ensuring no other ogres surrounded them, then returned to the original spot.
"Above, there are twelve ogres. When the cavalry attack, kill them right away without making noise,"
Ethan Smith marked the positions of the twelve ogres one by one, indicating everyone to prepare.
"If these ogres die, will it attract Saifu’s attention?"
Grayson asked earnestly.
"It shouldn’t. Ogre intelligence is low, conflicts often occur within groups. Unless there’s a large-scale death, there generally wouldn’t be an issue,"
Ethan Smith stated earnestly.
