Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Is it lingering feelings or unwillingness?

Fu Shinian carried Su Mu to the room, gently placed her on the bed, and glanced at the environment inside the room, saying indifferently:

"You rest. I will go first."

But as he turned around, Su Mu reached out and grabbed his little finger. Fu Shinian had to stop the turning motion, lowered his head to look at her hand, fair and slender—he could imagine what a beautiful sight it would be if these hands danced on the black and white keys of a piano. However, at this moment, he only felt that this hand embodied grievances, just like its owner.

Fu Shinian’s gaze fell on Su Mu’s face, quietly watching her without speaking.

Su Mu: "Sorry..."

Fu Shinian chuckled lightly:

"Has Mrs. Fu done something wrong?"

"I shouldn’t have stayed away from home for several days in anger at you, nor should I have run to the film studio without telling you, let alone coming with Wei Shaoqin..." She carefully looked up at him: "Can you forgive me?"

She was right about all these things, she had indeed done them and made mistakes, but as Fu Shinian listened, he felt no dissipation of his anger. He thought Su Mu’s apology missed the mark, but as to the real reason, he didn’t want to say nor did he bother to explain.

"I am not angry with you, so there’s no question of forgiveness. Whether you come home or where you go, or who you are with, I don’t care at all. It’s still the same message, you can do whatever you want outside, just be mindful of your actions."

Su Mu felt a tightness in her chest, a suffocating discomfort, but this was Fu Shinian. He had always treated her this way, so what more could she expect? Berate herself hysterically?

Because he doesn’t care, so no matter what you do, it’s all the same to him.

Her cool hand gently let go of his warm little finger, she lowered her head and forced a smile:

"It’s fine now. You go eat."

Fu Shinian looked at her for a few seconds and, in the end, said nothing more, taking steps to leave. But as he exited the bedroom, he stopped and looked at Su Mu sitting on the bed, and said:

"Do you know Qin Nianwan’s assistant?"

Su Mu was startled, and all her emotions vanished without a trace, with only his words echoing in her mind and furiously pondering how to respond.

She looked at him, shaking her head:

"No, I don’t know her."

"You don’t know her but you stared at her like that?" Fu Shinian looked at her indifferently: "You wouldn’t be thinking of bribing her, to monitor Qin Nianwan’s movements, would you?"

Actually, Su Mu knew Fu Shinian understood she would never do such a thing, but he still said that. So, she simply went along with his words:

"It’s not out of the question."

Fu Shinian gave a faint smile:

"Then you might have to spend a good deal of money. She came over from H country and can be considered Qin Nianwan’s companion in adversity. Not something you can bribe with a little favor. Is Mrs. Fu planning to work hard to earn money herself, or are you planning to touch the living expenses I give you?"

Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian:

"I’ll consider it."

"Good, take your time thinking it over."

After Fu Shinian left, Su Mu’s thoughts never stopped. He just said that Qin Nianwan’s assistant, Han Lu, came from H country, which means that Qin Nianwan never ceased contact with her over these two years. Now back in the country, she even brought her along.

She originally thought that Qin Nianwan’s purpose in returning was to salvage the relationship, but it seems that’s not the case now.

——

After leaving the room, Fu Shinian did not immediately depart. He stood at the door for a few seconds, constantly thinking about Su Mu’s expression just now. She must know Han Lu; otherwise, she would not have shown such a panicky expression. But how could this be possible?

When Qin Nianwan had suggested bringing a friend to become her assistant, Fu Shinian had already thoroughly investigated her background, and there was nothing suspicious about her. But if she had really been living in H country the whole time, how could the Su Mu, who had never been to H country, know Han Lu?

Song Yi approached at this moment, watching Fu Shinian deep in thought and didn’t immediately speak to interrupt him. He waited until Fu Shinian broke from his reverie and glanced at him:

"Speak."

"The brakes on the car Mrs. Fu was driving were cut."

Fu Shinian was silent for a few seconds, "She only stayed here for one night, had limited contact with people, and isn’t the type to offend anyone. Go investigate, I want to see who has the audacity to mess with my people.

"Yes."

Song Yi thought that Fu Shinian had finished giving instructions and was about to leave when Shinian stopped him:

"Before you get to work, order food for Su Mu. It’s already noon, she must be hungry."

Song Yi stole a glance at him and hesitantly replied, "...Yes."

When Fu Shinian came downstairs, Qin Nianwan was already getting impatient, having chipped off a large piece of her freshly done nails. Han Lu had been by her side the whole time and seeing this, she spoke up to comfort her:

"You can’t still have lingering feelings for Mr. Fu, hoping to become Mrs. Fu, can you?"

Qin Nianwan glared at her, "There’s no need for you to remind me, I know what I should do."

"That’s for the best." Han Lu glanced at Fu Shinian walking their way, and whispered with a smile, "Although Mr. Fu seems indifferent towards Mrs. Fu, it doesn’t mean he has no feelings. As for you, even though you have the status of a former girlfriend, in the end, you are nothing but the past."

After saying that, Han Lu got out of the car and opened the door for Fu Shinian. Shinian’s gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds:

"Thank you."

Sitting across from Qin Nianwan, Fu Shinian immediately noticed her now imperfect nails. Nianwan, aware of his gaze, covered them with her other hand and spoke softly:

"I accidentally scraped them just now. It looks like I need to get them redone this afternoon."

"Hmm, tell them not only to make it look good but to make it more durable as well."

Qin Nianwan didn’t continue the topic and looked at him:

"What do you want to eat?"

Fu Shinian looked out the window, "I’m not familiar with this area, you decide."

"Then let’s have hotpot."

Fu Shinian turned to her upon hearing that, and gave a faint smile, "Okay."

Hotpot was Nianwan’s favorite when they were together. Shinian didn’t have any particular likes or dislikes, but since Nianwan’s departure, he had indeed not eaten hotpot much. It wasn’t because it brought back painful memories, but rather, he felt the atmosphere wasn’t right.

They took a private room, and Nianwan ordered quite a lot of dishes. While looking at the steaming pot in front of him, Shinian suddenly recalled that Su Mu also liked hotpot. She was always extra happy and ate more than usual whenever they had hotpot at the old house.

Nianwan noticed Shinian’s distraction and asked:

"What are you thinking about?"

Shinian regained his composure, and smiled lightly:

"Nothing. You called me here because you had something to tell me, right?"

Qin Nianwan uttered a soft affirmation and put down her chopsticks:

"I want to ask you for a loan."
