Chapter 643: Will You Forgive?
Chapter 643: Chapter 643: Will You Forgive?
Ji Nanfeng had barely driven out from the Shen Port dock before he saw a speeding car rushing toward him. In an instant, the car brushed past without giving him time to check further, but within that fleeting second, he was almost certain that the person in the passenger seat was Su Mu. Without hesitation, he turned around and followed.
Ji Nanfeng was driving a sports car today, its performance and speed far superior to Su Mu’s vehicle. Because of this, Ji Nanfeng arrived at the Shen Port dock several seconds earlier than Su Mu. As her car came to a stop, he stepped forward just as she opened the door and stepped out.
Perhaps it was the thick, billowing smoke and the pungent smell in the air that instinctively made her legs weak, causing her to almost collapse. Ji Nanfeng acted swiftly to support her, carefully observing her pale face:
"Are you okay?"
Su Mu turned her head from the chaotic scene not far away to look at him, tightly grabbing his sleeve: "How is it? Did you find him? Did you find him?"
Ji Nanfeng hadn’t planned to break the news to Su Mu this quickly; no one could endure it. But neither had he expected her to answer the call he had made. At this moment, there seemed to be nothing left to conceal, so he spoke softly:
"Su Mu, my words might be harsh, but right now, I’d rather we hadn’t found him."
Such a situation... If they found him, there would only be one outcome. If he wasn’t found, perhaps there was still a slim chance for survival, though it’d be minuscule.
Su Mu may have heard Ji Nanfeng’s words or perhaps she hadn’t. Either way, she didn’t give herself time to react. Instead, she shoved Ji Nanfeng’s body aside and strode toward the site without hesitation. The closer she got, the more unbearable the scent of burnt objects became. Black ash floated in the air, landing on her pristine down jacket and in her hair, but she paid no attention to such details.
Rong Shen and Qiao Yu were standing off to the side, their expressions grave as they talked about something. Upon seeing Su Mu appear, they reacted with slight alarm. Qiao Yu was the first to step forward, stopping Su Mu’s attempt to charge into the fire scene:
"Why are you here?"
Su Mu wasn’t particularly strong, but humans can exhibit extraordinary strength when faced with insurmountable forces or the desire to reverse a tragic outcome. Under such circumstances, the probability of this surge increases exponentially. Qiao Yu was unprepared for her strength, so when Su Mu pushed him away with a violent shove, nearly sending him tumbling into the snow, he was caught off guard. Only Rong Shen’s timely help stabilized him.
Qiao Yu didn’t have time to thank Rong Shen. He quickly blocked Su Mu again as she was about to move toward the fire scene:
"You can’t go in there."
Qiao Yu used more force this time, stopping Su Mu like she was pinned in place. The glare she cast at Qiao Yu burned with fury, as if he were the one responsible for everything. But Qiao Yu remained unmoved, his eyes fixed on her, patiently explaining:
"The fire isn’t out yet, and we can’t rule out the possibility of a secondary explosion. It’s too dangerous for you to go in now."
Su Mu responded:
"Where is Fu Shinian? Have you found him?"
Qiao Yu fell silent for a few seconds, then shook his head: "No."
Su Mu’s expression didn’t change much. Perhaps it was because she had mentally prepared herself from the beginning, or maybe right now, unless Fu Shinian appeared in front of her, she wouldn’t display any emotions at all. Instinctively, she tried to move toward the fire scene again, but this time Qiao Yu held onto her tightly:
"Don’t do anything that would make us worry. This is something Shinian would absolutely not want to see."
Su Mu desperately wanted to calm down, but her mind was in chaos, her heartbeat was rapid, and she couldn’t control her body at all.
Wasn’t today supposed to be a joyous day? Qiqi had returned, and the family could finally reunite. But why, at the moment she allowed herself to relish this happiness, did she have to endure such a cruel separation?
Fu Shinian—did he truly believe that by doing this, Su Mu would feel happy?
By exchanging his life for Qiqi’s return, did he think Su Mu would feel grateful and fulfilled?
No, this wasn’t what she had wanted from the start. This wasn’t the outcome she wished for. She had never thought about sacrificing someone else to get Qiqi back—or at least, not like this. She had prepared herself to sacrifice her own life.
She had resolved to trade her life for Qiqi’s safety.
She believed she could do it, but as it turned out, Fu Shinian acted faster. She had a rough idea of how he managed it and what he had kept hidden from her—it all became more apparent during her journey here. She didn’t blame anyone, not even Jiang Bei, who had known the truth. She only blamed herself, wishing she could slap herself a few times.
