Chapter 64: Family of Three
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Family of Three
Wen Han introduced:
"This is Su Mu, Shaoyuan’s private tutor."
Su Mu politely nodded to everyone and smiled.
After Wen Han had finished speaking, Wen Shaoyuan added:
"Sister Su teaches very well and takes good care of me. I really like Sister Su, really like being with her."
The curious crowd, upon hearing Wen Shaoyuan’s words, instantly understood everything, especially Grandpa Sun, who was holding Wen Shaoyuan. Looking at Wen Han, he seemed to have finally let out a sigh of relief:
"Good! It’s good that you have realized! I thought my old bones wouldn’t live to see this day."
Su Mu was not a fool, nor was she slow to react, so she was very clear that everyone had misunderstood her relationship with Wen Han because of Wen Shaoyuan’s words. She wanted to clarify, but the setting didn’t seem to allow her a chance to speak, so she could only lower her gaze and stand there, somewhat at a loss.
Wen Han hadn’t expected Wen Shaoyuan to say that. He caught a glimpse of Su Mu feeling awkward, but now, explaining would only make Su Mu feel more embarrassed, so he spoke:
"Uncle Sun, let’s have tea together another day. We’ll be leaving first today."
"Go, go, go." Grandpa Sun set Wen Shaoyuan down. "Young people should go out and socialize more. Don’t always stay with us old folks. Don’t worry about us, hurry along!"
Wen Shaoyuan could clearly sense that Wen Han was unhappy. He held Su Mu’s hand and quietly followed behind, asking softly:
"Sister Su, did I say something wrong that made dad angry?"
Su Mu thought for a moment and then squatted down to explain to Wen Shaoyuan:
"Shaoyuan, I know you just wanted to prove to Grandpa Sun that Sister Su is very good, but adults think differently from children. Sometimes they might misunderstand something, and that could make both dad and Sister Su feel uncomfortable."
Wen Shaoyuan blinked and looked at Su Mu:
"I think I kind of understand now."
As Wen Han was about to open the car door, Wen Shaoyuan stopped his motion from behind. Wen Han’s expression was still not great, but he didn’t ignore Wen Shaoyuan, standing and waiting for his approach.
Wen Shaoyuan stood in front of Wen Han, looking guilty:
"I’m sorry, dad. I shouldn’t have said things that led everyone to misunderstand. I’ll be careful in the future. Please don’t be mad."
Wen Han knew it was unintentional. How could such a young child harbor such deep thoughts? He also knew that it wasn’t worth getting angry over such a trivial matter, but suddenly he couldn’t control his emotions. Now seeing Wen Shaoyuan apologizing in front of him, he felt relieved.
He smiled slightly:
"Dad apologizes to you too. When you do something wrong, I should explain it to you instead of getting angry. I hope you can forgive dad, okay?"
Wen Shaoyuan smiled and nodded.
Wen Han patted his shoulder, opened the car door, and let him get in the car first, then he pursed his lips and looked at Su Mu:
"Don’t take to heart what Uncle Sun and the others said. There was no ill intent."
"I know, I didn’t mind, and you don’t need to explain it to me."
Wen Han nodded: "Get in the car."
Su Mu originally wanted to decline the invitation to dine together, but considering the awkward situation that had just occurred, if she were to decline now, would Wen Han think she was still bothered by it? After some thought, it seemed she had no choice but to go with them.
On the way, Wen Han asked Su Mu about her preferences. Su Mu left the question to Wen Shaoyuan, who, although a bit subdued and not as chatty as on the way there, still thought carefully for a while before cautiously asking Wen Han:
"Dad, can we go to a private kitchen?"
Wen Han glanced at his son: "Yes."
A private chef? Fu Shinian, Ji Nanfeng, and Qiao Yu’s favorite place. Su Mu just hoped she wouldn’t run into them this time.
But, as humans often fear, what you fear most tends to come true.
As the waiter led the three of them to the private room, someone suddenly called out Su Mu’s name from behind:
"Su Mu!"
All three stopped and turned around, and then Su Mu saw Ji Nanfeng. Luckily, he was alone; Fu Shinian was not there.
Ji Nanfeng came over, greeted Su Mu first, and then looked at Wen Han:
"Long time no see, Wen Han."
Wen Han nodded, "Yes, it has been a long time."
Su Mu sighed. Was the circle of the wealthy really so small? To the extent that the wealthy people around her all knew each other, no matter the relationship.
Wen Han’s gaze shifted back and forth between Su Mu and Ji Nanfeng:
"Do you two know each other?"
Ji Nanfeng looked at Su Mu with a slight smile, "A friend’s fiancée."
Wen Han nodded, then looked at Su Mu:
"You two go ahead and talk; Shaoyuan and I will wait for you in the private room."
Su Mu smiled, "Okay."
After Wen Han left, Su Mu finally turned to Ji Nanfeng. His smirk, which was entirely mocking, made Su Mu unable to stop herself from speaking:
"I know what you’re thinking, but it’s not what you think. I’m just tutoring Wen Shaoyuan. Shinian knows about this too."
"Not only does Shinian know, but Qiao Yu and I also know that you’ve been tutoring at the Wen Family. But does Shinian know that you’re out dining alone today with Wen Han?"
Su Mu, "I’ll tell him."
"Telling him is so boring; I’ll do it."
Su Mu furrowed her brow, about to say something, when Ji Nanfeng stopped her.
"Su Mu, I’m not a troublemaker, but Shinian is my best friend, and you are his wife. It’s impossible to act as if I didn’t see you guys, especially when there’s nothing going on, just a meal, so there’s nothing that can’t be said."
His words were indeed reasonable, but Su Mu just didn’t trust Ji Nanfeng not to exaggerate the situation:
"Whatever you say."
Ji Nanfeng smiled slightly, "Don’t hold up your meal, don’t make them wait too anxiously."
As Su Mu was walking to the private room, she tried to call Fu Shinian, but the line was busy. She wasn’t sure if it was Ji Nanfeng who had already called, but later she thought about how Ji Nanfeng had infuriated her and made her somewhat irrational. After all, it was just a meal; why was she so nervous about it?
After calming down, Su Mu sent a simple WeChat message to Fu Shinian: I had lunch with Wen Shaoyuan and Wen Han at a private chef’s.
When Fu Shinian saw this message, he had just hung up Ji Nanfeng’s call. He knew he hadn’t lied, as there was no need to, but whether he had described the situtation with embellishment was another matter. Just as he was about to put down the phone, Su Mu’s WeChat arrived. He saw it but didn’t reply yet, and before he could exit, Ji Nanfeng sent him another WeChat message.
It was a picture of three people from the back.
Wen Han and Su Mu were flanking Wen Shaoyuan on either side, and it seemed that Wen Shaoyuan had said something, as both were simultaneously looking down at the child, their smiles even mirroring each other.
If one didn’t know any better, Fu Shinian would think they looked like a warm family of three.
