Chapter 595: Chapter 595: Don’t Want to See Her Cry
"Brother Wen, do you not want me anymore?"
The sound of sobbing reached Wen Shaoyuan’s ears, causing his heart to ache suddenly, and although Qiqi couldn’t see his movements, Wen Shaoyuan reflexively sat up from the sofa. He was currently keeping watch in the hospital, Wen Han had just gone out, and Zhou Yaxian was still sleeping soundly, so he wasn’t worried about anything:
"Qiqi, what are you talking about, how could I not want you?"
"If you want me, why didn’t you come back today? Do you know how sad I was today, do you know how much I missed you, why aren’t you by my side, why aren’t you..."
Qiqi’s words, like knives, stabbed deeply into Wen Shaoyuan’s heart. He stood up, walking quickly towards the door. He didn’t know what he could do for Qiqi in the middle of the night, but he instinctively wanted to be by her side:
"What’s wrong? Don’t cry, I am coming over now."
"Don’t come over." Qiqi’s words stopped Wen Shaoyuan in his tracks: "It’s so late now, I don’t feel safe with you coming over alone, I would worry."
Wen Shaoyuan glanced at the clock on the wall and slightly frowned, indeed it was very late, and Zhou Yaxian needed someone here. He couldn’t ask Wen Han to accompany him, and Wen Han wouldn’t feel confident leaving alone for Gui Ning Residence, especially since it’s in the outskirts. If something were to happen, it might truly catch them off guard.
For the first time, Wen Shaoyuan strongly detested being a child, resenting why he couldn’t grow up faster. That way, he could be by the much-wanted Qiqi’s side, to protect and comfort her, yet at this moment all his emotions and feelings could only be transmuted into a sigh:
"Qiqi, can you tell me what exactly happened?"
Honestly, after venting her frustration at Su Shiyue and Wen Shaoyuan, Qiqi’s mood had already improved quite a bit. Although she still resented Su Mu and Fu Shinian, ultimately she was tired, and having cried for so long, she really wanted to sleep. So she didn’t say much, only:
"Brother Wen, when you come to see me tomorrow, I’ll tell you then."
Listening to her voice calming down, Wen Shaoyuan smiled gently, his tone becoming much softer: "Tired?"
"Mm, a little."
"Then go to sleep early, and give me a call immediately if there’s anything. I’m always here, okay?"
"I know, Brother Wen."
"Alright, then goodnight, Qiqi."
"Goodnight, Brother Wen."
After hanging up the phone, Qiqi fell asleep quickly, after all, she was just a child, but Wen Shaoyuan couldn’t feel sleepy anymore after Qiqi’s call, and stayed awake until Wen Han walked in and saw him standing at the window, slightly frowning:
"What are you doing standing there?"
Wen Shaoyuan turned to look at Wen Han and walked over: "It’s nothing."
"If you can’t sleep, I can take you back?"
Wen Shaoyuan shook his head: "Dad, you also had a busy day, you must be very tired. You should rest early, I’m just not sleepy."
Wen Han didn’t say much, but he noticed the cell phone tightly held in Wen Shaoyuan’s hand and then looked into his eyes:
"Did Qiqi call you?"
Wen Shaoyuan was taken aback, but he did not deny it: "Yes."
"You look like Qiqi is unhappy."
"Yes, Qiqi is crying, and I am very worried."
Upon hearing this, Wen Han furrowed his brows. From the phone call to Su Mu just now, he could sense Fu Shinian’s anger, which was indeed unpleasant. However, no matter how displeased he was, it shouldn’t concern Qiqi. His affection for Qiqi would never show any displeasure in front of her. Yet, this didn’t prove that Qiqi wouldn’t secretly witness their quarrel. If she saw Su Mu and Fu Shinian arguing, it might well lead to the current situation.
It worried Wen Han to think that something made Qiqi cry to the extent that she even called Wen Shaoyuan. Frankly, he regretted making that phone call, but it was too late for regrets now.
"Do you want me to take you there to check?"
Wen Shaoyuan glanced at Zhou Yaxian, who was sleeping soundly, and shook his head:
"Qiqi’s daily routine is very regular. Even if something made her unhappy today, she’s probably asleep at this hour. Even if I went there, I wouldn’t be of much help, nor would I want to wake her up. I’ll just go tomorrow, dad doesn’t need to worry."
Wen Han looked at his son and smiled slightly:
"Sometimes it’s hard to tell that you are only 8 years old."
"Really?" Wen Shaoyuan smiled: "But I am really only 8 years old. I wish I were a bit older."
"Wishing you were older to protect Qiqi?"
"Yes, I don’t want to see her crying at all."
Wen Han smiled and sat down beside Wen Shaoyuan on the sofa. Time seemed to stand still but after a long silence, Wen Han finally spoke:
"Shaoyuan, frankly speaking, although I have always supported your interaction with Qiqi, I don’t really understand the kind of relationship between you two. I also don’t quite believe that the feelings you have now will last into the distant future. Perhaps, one day when both of you have grown up and seen different parts of the world, you won’t regard each other as importantly anymore."
Wen Shaoyuan looked up at Wen Han:
"I know, there are many changes in the world. There won’t be only me as a boy by Qiqi’s side. She told me that many boys in the kindergarten like her too. I can’t stop those who come near her, nor can I make her only look at me. But I still want to protect her. Even if one day she tells me, ’Brother Shaoyuan, I’ve fallen in love with someone else, more than I ever liked you.’ I think I could accept it as long as she is happy."
Wen Han looked at Wen Shaoyuan, and for a long time, he couldn’t say anything. Perhaps he should change his outdated views. Who says love is a feeling only adults have? Children have it too, though it’s not as well defined, hence often overlooked. Indeed, their ’love’ is much purer and more beautiful than that amongst adults.
For a moment, Wen Han felt proud of Wen Shaoyuan and gently patted his shoulder:
"Get some rest early. After school tomorrow, I will take you to Gui Ning Residence. You can stay with Qiqi the entire time. Don’t worry about home affairs. I will handle everything well."
Wen Shaoyuan thought for a few seconds, then nodded:
"Okay, thank you, Dad."
Meanwhile, Fu Shinian and Su Mu were in the master bedroom, one sitting on the sofa and the other on the bed, neither of them uttering a word. The atmosphere was oppressively somber until finally, Fu Shinian rose from the sofa and walked over to Su Mu. He slowly crouched down before her, looked into her eyes, and softly said:
"It’s my fault."
