Chapter 593: Chapter 593: Strike Hard at the Most Painful Spot

Su Mu could no longer stay in the study; she felt that if she continued to stay, a quarrel between the two was inevitable, and that was the last thing she wanted to happen. So she had no choice but to leave first, but Fu Shinian seemed to have no intention of letting her go. As Su Mu walked towards the door, he grabbed her and violently pushed her onto the sofa beside him:

"We’re not done here, where do you think you’re going?"

Su Mu’s patience had finally reached its limit, looking at the unfamiliar Fu Shinian in front of her, she smiled weakly:

"What’s the matter? Can’t keep up the facade anymore?"

Fu Shinian heard her words and frowned slightly. He looked at Su Mu without saying a word, seemingly not understanding what she was talking about. Su Mu adjusted her position, stood up from the sofa, and stared unwaveringly at Fu Shinian, saying:

"You were so good to me before, I really thought you had changed. But now it seems you’ve just been repressing your true nature. The moment I do something that doesn’t please you, you revert back to your old self, just like now. You’re right, I’m not interested in remarrying you. First, I don’t see the need for it, and second, I indeed don’t trust you. There were times when I was soft-hearted, thinking I might be overthinking things, but now it seems that it wasn’t such an unwise choice after all."

Both had lost their reason, both grabbing knives in their hands, knowing exactly where to stab to cause the most pain, and doing so ruthlessly. In fact, neither of them wanted to, but today they were as if possessed by the devil, and Su Mu even had the illusion of being transported back to three years ago.

What awaited them was an endless cycle of arguments.

She suddenly felt tired and didn’t want to continue arguing. Looking at Fu Shinian’s expression, she felt that she might have gone a bit too far with her earlier words, but apologizing was impossible at this point. She wanted to exit the scene, so she turned and headed for the door, only to receive a call from Wen Han at that moment.

Upon seeing Wen Han’s name, Su Mu didn’t have any intention to answer, but Fu Shinian saw it too, and with a slight smile, he said:

"What, is there something you can’t say in front of me?"

Su Mu glanced at Fu Shinian and eventually answered the call, even putting it on speakerphone:

"What is it?"

"Nothing much." Wen Han paused for a few seconds: "How are things between you and Fu Shinian?"

Su Mu didn’t reply and changed the subject:

"How is your mother?"

Wen Han, detecting something, didn’t respond to Su Mu’s question but directly asked: "Did you two have an argument?"

"No," Su Mu said, "We are fine."

"That’s good." Wen Han sighed with relief: "If there is any unpleasantness between you two because of me and my mother, it would be a grave sin on my part."

Su Mu didn’t want to continue:

"I’m tired today; if there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up."

"Su Mu," Wen Han called her before she could hang up: "My mother woke up not too long ago and seems to be much clearer in mind. She remembers what she did this afternoon, so she wants to apologize to you personally and has something she would like to say to you directly."

"No need, I haven’t been wronged or hurt, so there’s no need to apologize to me. Moreover, I think it’s best if your mother and I don’t meet again, to avoid causing her further concern."

Wen Han insisted:

"Although I have the same opinion, my mother insists on this. She has also decided to follow the doctor’s advice and go abroad for treatment. Before she leaves, she really wishes to meet with you... consider it as a favor to me, okay?"

Su Mu fell silent, wavering. Thinking of the phone call Fu Shinian had made earlier, she didn’t even know whether Zhou Yaxian going abroad was really her own decision, so without speaking, she thought that meeting once couldn’t be too bad. Though she knew she shouldn’t, perhaps out of spite, Su Mu agreed:

"Okay, I will go tomorrow."

Before Wen Han could express his gratitude, Fu Shinian abruptly snatched the phone away, his gaze on Su Mu, but his words addressed to Wen Han:

"Wen Han, perhaps your mother was indeed nice to Su Mu before. As for why she was nice, both you and I know the reason. But as things stand today, Su Mu is mine, for the rest of her life. So let’s not keep replaying this over and over, you might not be tired of it, but I’m fed up."

"I..."

"In the future, the Wen family and the Fu family will have no dealings, except maybe between Shaoyuan and Qiqi. Apart from that, I hope you will have no further contact with Su Mu. This is a request from me, as her husband. Also..." Fu Shinian continued, looking at Su Mu: "We are getting married. Maybe if I’m in a good mood, I might send you an invitation. But I don’t want you to attend. I hope you understand that. As for going to the hospital tomorrow, Su Mu will not, and I will not agree."

After saying this, Fu Shinian hung up the phone. Before Su Mu could reach out to take her phone back, Fu Shinian, like a madman, viciously threw the phone away. It crashed, shattered into pieces, some of which scraped against Su Mu’s hand, but she didn’t feel any pain.

Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu:

"You still want to go?"

Su Mu stood silently in place: "You’ve already turned it down for me, so there’s no need for me to go tomorrow."

"What if I hadn’t said I wouldn’t agree? Would you still go tomorrow?"

"If I promised, then of course I’ll go."

"Fine, fine, fine." Fu Shinian laughed sarcastically three times in a row, probably to alleviate the pent-up frustration and rage within him. He paced back and forth in the study three times before finally speaking somewhat calmly: "Today it was Zhou Yaxian throwing herself off a building, coercing you to marry Wen Han with her life. Who knows if tomorrow she might hold a fruit knife to her own neck, what will you do then? Since it didn’t happen today, are you determined to make a trip to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow?"

"Su Mu!" Fu Shinian couldn’t help but raise his voice: "Do you really want to marry Wen Han that much?! I’ve gone to great lengths to snatch you back from his clutches, does that disappoint you? Regretting that you’re not his wife, growing old with him? So you’re using this method to make me compromise? Let me tell you, it’s impossible! From now on, you are not allowed to meet with Wen Han nor have anything to do with Zhou Yaxian, otherwise there’s no hope for Shaoyuan and Qiqi."

Su Mu was originally planning to hold back as neither of them were very calm at the moment, but upon hearing Fu Shinian’s words and seeing his attitude, Su Mu couldn’t keep it in any longer. She laughed lightly, her expression neither angry nor sad, just looking faintly at Fu Shinian:

"Fu Shinian, do you have the right to stand here and demand what I do? Who are you to me? We’re just putting on a show together for Qiqi’s sake, do you really think you’re my husband? Don’t forget, we aren’t remarried yet, and I’ll never remarry you!"
