Chapter 575: If She Returns, As She Wishes
Chapter 575: Chapter 575: If She Returns, As She Wishes
Fu Shinian was focused on driving but still turned his head to glance at her several times before finally asking:
"What are you thinking about?"
"Xiaobei lived a carefree and uninhibited life before her encounters with Ji Nanfeng and Rong Shen. I’ve always envied her. Yet now, as I have settled down, she has started a life of wandering. I really hope she’s doing well. Neither Ji Nanfeng nor Rong Shen is right for her," Su Mu leaned back in her seat, gazing at the thick night outside the window that seemed unable to dissipate: "I truly wish her well."
"You’re right, but Su Su, no one forced her into marriage. It was her own choice. No matter what Rong Shen may have done, if it were me, I wouldn’t have married," Fu Shinian took a turn with the steering wheel, then continued:
"You’re only considering this from Jiang Bei’s perspective. Have you ever thought about how Ji Nanfeng feels? He didn’t marry Jiang Bei out of charity. He also wants to settle down, to focus on his life. But because of Rong Shen, Jiang Bei has never really committed to the marriage. That Ji Nanfeng has made his current choice doesn’t surprise me at all."
Su Mu slightly furrowed her brow:
"But before their marriage, Ji Nanfeng knew everything about Jiang Bei. She never hid anything from him. Knowing everything, he still insisted on marrying her. He was well aware that he might never share a deep connection with Jiang Bei for their entire lives. If he wasn’t prepared or willing to accept that, he shouldn’t have agreed to marry her in the first place."
Fu Shinian smiled:
"You’re right."
"I know you don’t really agree with what I’m saying."
"It’s not that I don’t agree," said Fu Shinian: "It’s that everyone has their own standards for judgment. Men and women are even more different, so I don’t think I’m wrong and I don’t think there’s an issue with what you’re saying. We’re just looking at the problem from different perspectives. There’s nothing wrong with that."
Su Mu did not say anything more, simply took out her phone and dialed Jiang Bei’s number once again. As expected, it was still off. Su Mu’s heart practically leapt to her throat — Jiang Bei’s health had only just begun to improve and her emotions had not yet stabilized, yet she was faced with such a situation. Su Mu was indignant, but all of these emotions needed to wait until after Jiang Bei was found.
Finding Jiang Bei was more important than anything else.
Unable to reach Jiang Bei’s phone, Su Mu could only visit some of the usual places Jiang Bei liked to go. However, it was already 10 p.m. and many places had closed for the night. They found no sign of her, and Su Mu’s emotions gradually spiraled into intense anxiety.
She was genuinely worried that Jiang Bei might have encountered some danger.
Seeing Su Mu in this state, Fu Shinian suggested: "How about I make a call to Rong Shen to ask if he knows where Jiang Bei might be?"
"Okay." Su Mu nodded without any hesitation: "Ask him. The last time Jiang Bei disappeared, it was him who took her away."
Fu Shinian nodded, thinking it unlikely, but still he called Rong Shen. Loud background noise came from Rong Shen’s end, and knowing this, Fu Shinian guessed Jiang Bei probably was not with him. However, Rong Shen’s influence and connections in Shen City were substantial; if it was just a matter of finding someone, it would still be fairly easy.
Therefore, Fu Shinian didn’t beat around the bush:
"If Jiang Bei is with you now, I’ll come over. If she’s not, then you come over with your people."
The background noise in the phone call with Fu Shinian gradually lessened, then quieted down completely. After a few seconds, he finally heard Rong Shen’s voice:
"What do you mean by that? Has Jiang Bei gone missing?"
"Yes."
Rong Shen hung up the phone. Fu Shinian put his phone away and looked at Su Mu, who was expectantly watching him, and shook his head lightly: "No, Jiang Bei isn’t with Rong Shen."
Su Mu was unsurprised; Jiang Bei disliked Rong Shen meddling in her life the most. Qiao Na’s child was one example. Even if she felt upset, she wouldn’t turn to Rong Shen. But Shen City was so vast, and Fu Shinian and Su Mu had already searched all the places Jiang Bei might have gone. It was almost dawn, and they still knew nothing of Jiang Bei’s whereabouts.
Searching aimlessly was not a solution, so Fu Shinian suggested they regroup to discuss further. Su Mu had no objections; after all, she genuinely had no clues at this point. Fu Shinian drove Su Mu to meet Ji Nanfeng, who was hurriedly searching for people at a plaza in the city center. The weather was chilly in mid-October, yet he was dressed in only a short-sleeved T-shirt.
Upon seeing Fu Shinian, before Ji Nanfeng said anything, Fu Shinian spoke directly:
"I called Rong Shen. Maybe he can help."
Ji Nanfeng nodded indifferently: "Yeah, as long as we can find Jiang Bei, I’ve got nothing to say. Even if she now wants a divorce, I won’t disagree."
Fu Shinian looked at Ji Nanfeng’s dejected appearance and chuckled lightly:
"Haven’t you always wanted a divorce?"
Su Mu had been holding back from speaking, but after hearing Fu Shinian’s comment, she couldn’t help but turn to look at Ji Nanfeng: "You want a divorce?"
Whether it was psychological or not, facing Su Mu, Ji Nanfeng always felt somewhat unable to lift his head, perhaps because of her close relationship with Jiang Bei. Looking at Su Mu was like facing Jiang Bei, and in light of today’s events, he had been culpably careless, causing Jiang Bei distress.
"That was my previous thought."
"I don’t care if it was in the past. The fact that you can’t give Jiang Bei the basic protection she needs is also true. So, after this incident is over, I hope you take the initiative to propose a divorce to Jiang Bei. Stop holding her back," Su Mu continued:
"It baffles me to understand what you’re really thinking. In the business world, and even in the underworld, you’re a significant figure, commanding respect, utterly capable, with everyone addressing you ’Third Master Ji’. But look what you’ve done; you can’t even protect your own wife at home. It’s been almost two years since your marriage, and your mother’s attitude towards Jiang Bei is not new. Have you never thought about resolving this? Or perhaps you don’t care at all, thinking this outcome suits you well, making it convenient for you to later marry the Qi Family’s heiress?"
Ji Nanfeng wasn’t surprised that Su Mu knew all of this—after all, the situation had deteriorated to this extent, and Fu Shinian wouldn’t hide anything from her. So, facing Su Mu’s accusations, Ji Nanfeng had no words of defense.
And he couldn’t defend himself.
