Chapter 491: Chapter 491: If You Can’t Accept It, Then Endure It

"But I care." Jiang Bei stood up and turned around to face Rong Shen: "It was you who forced me to stay by your side. I had no choice. You’ll probably never know how suffocated I felt during that time. Every touch of yours disgusted me. I wished I could kill you."

Rong Shen didn’t get angry, he just gave a faint smile:

"The things you could endure before should have made you stronger over the years. Even if not, then it would be just like before, continue enduring."

"Aren’t you afraid that I will really kill you?"

"If you have the ability, then my life is yours."

After saying this, Rong Shen stepped forward, locking Jiang Bei’s chin with lightning speed, forcing her mouth to open, and then leaned in to kiss her, completely disregarding her previous feeling of nausea, and totally indifferent to her so-called ’disgust’ towards him.

When Su Mu awoke, her body ached as though she had been run over by a car. She stared at the exquisite ceiling for a long time before she realized she was in a strange place. The hangover caused her considerable headache, but even more painful was the untouchable part of her lower body. She was not an inexperienced girl and naturally knew what had happened. She had a premonition last night, so it was not a surprise.

She did not want to be involved with Fu Shinian anymore, but she knew she could not escape. Whether it was Wen Han or someone else, Fu Shinian was not planning to let her go. After everything that happened last night, she might have harbored some thoughts of giving up, which is why she let herself go.

There was no one around. She checked the time; it was already 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Her stomach protested first, so Su Mu endured the pain to go to the bathroom to freshen up. It was then that she realized this place was not all that unfamiliar—she had been here once, although just once.

Fu Shinian had said that Gui Ning Residence was temporarily uninhabited, so when Su Mu went downstairs, she saw no one, including Fu Shinian. Perhaps he was not here anymore. But given the distance from the city center, she wondered whether he had prepared a car for her to leave or if he had never intended to let her leave at all.

As she reached the door, a voice suddenly came from behind and startled Su Mu. She instinctively looked back at the unfamiliar woman, who must have realized her blunder and apologized politely:

"Sorry madam, I didn’t mean to frighten you. I am the housekeeper here; everyone calls me Sister Tian."

Sister Tian told Su Mu that Fu Shinian had left at 8 o’clock in the morning and had not returned since. However, before he left, he instructed that she be well taken care of.

Su Mu didn’t need any care; she just wanted to leave. Fortunately, although Gui Ning Residence had been uninhabited for a long time, there were quite a few of Fu Shinian’s cars parked there. Su Mu asked Sister Tian for the keys and directly left Gui Ning Residence.

When she returned to the apartment, both Jiang Bei and Qiqi were out. Su Mu wasn’t too worried, so she picked up the phone to check her missed calls. There were many, including calls from Jiang Bei, Wei Shaoqin, but most were from Lin Ning. Su Mu called Lin Ning back:

"What’s up?"

"Su sister, I’ve communicated with the magazine company today about the photoshoot in Maldives. I found out that the editor-in-chief, President Huang, will also be going."

This was actually nothing unusual. It was normal for the editor-in-chief to accompany such shooting trips if there were no issues. But Su Mu knew what Lin Ning meant by telling her this. This magazine company’s President Huang was true to his surname, full of filthy thoughts. The first time they worked together and had dinner, he had hinted to Su Mu about the unspoken rules. Su Mu had flatly refused, without any face-saving courtesy, and afterward, the cooperation continued, with only a few minor difficulties.

"It’s probably not about me, maybe just for the shoot."

"Su sister, we have worked together before. After you rejected him, he has never shown up since. This time he ran off to Maldives, maybe because it’s far from the emperor’s reach, he may have unsavory intentions towards you."

Su Mu laughed:

"Thank you for the warning, but I’m not a pushover. If the magazine company decides to go, we can’t just say no. We just need to be careful when we get there."

"Yeah, I just wanted to give you a heads-up."

While talking with Lin Ning, Su Mu checked today’s flight tickets and asked: "What time is tomorrow’s ticket?"

"2 o’clock in the afternoon."

"Please cancel my flight." Su Mu said, "I’ll take the flight today."

There was still one at 8 o’clock in the evening, and there was plenty of time. Lin Ning was stunned for a moment: "Why?"

Su Mu didn’t know how to answer, and she definitely didn’t want to admit that she was trying to escape. She just said with a laugh: "To prepare in advance."

She booked the ticket and called Jiang Bei. Perhaps Jiang Bei knew what had happened to Su Mu the previous night, or perhaps Jiang Bei thought it was pointless to say anything. Without mentioning Su Mu’s disappearance from the previous night, Jiang Bei responded indifferently after hearing Su Mu’s plan:

"Okay, go ahead. I’ll send Qiqi to Fu Shinian later."

Su Mu didn’t return Wei Shaoqin’s call, guessing it was probably about the engagement reception. But concerning everything that had happened yesterday, Su Mu didn’t want to talk about it anymore. In any case, if she didn’t bring it up, Wei Shaoqin had his ways of finding out. So, she just sent a WeChat message saying she was fine and not to worry.

When Fu Shinian called, Su Mu was about to board the plane. She glanced at the caller ID, did not answer, and turned off her phone. The fact that their relationship had escalated was something she had acquiesced to, but how much of that was a result of impulse, even Su Mu wasn’t clear about. Let it be an escape then, she truly had not figured out how to face Fu Shinian.

She knew that they would have to face each other eventually, once she returned from Maldives, or maybe it wouldn’t take that long. But Su Mu just didn’t want to talk about it at this moment. Let it be her being capricious just this once.

When she arrived at Male Airport, it was midnight local time. Su Mu had booked a hotel beforehand, and someone from the hotel was there to pick her up. She went straight there, and the check-in went smoothly. After reaching her room, Su Mu felt no sleepiness at all. Sitting on the sofa by the window, even though the scenery of Maldives was picturesque, at night everything sank into the vast darkness, not much different from Shen City.

After a long time, Su Mu turned on her phone. There were no missed call alerts or unread messages. She inexplicably let out a sigh of relief.

She didn’t know when she fell asleep, but when she woke up, the day was already bright. She pulled open the curtains, and the azure sea was in full view. Su Mu walked out onto the balcony. There was a small pool on the balcony, connected to the sea. Su Mu leaned on the railing, quietly enjoying the sea breeze, as if it carried away all the worries in her heart.
