Chapter 483: Chapter 483: An Email, Act Out a Play

After hanging up the phone, Jiang Bei immediately asked:

"What’s the call about so late at night?"

Su Mu shook her head: "I’m not quite sure either, just that it’s something important and I should go over."

Knowing that Su Mu was getting married tomorrow, Jiang Bei had come over tonight with no intention of leaving and was prepared to go with her to the engagement party venue tomorrow. It was already 9 PM, and Jiang Bei couldn’t think of any urgent matter that would require Su Mu to go now, she felt somewhat worried:

"I’ll go with you, I have a bad feeling about this."

Su Mu shook her head:

"No need, Qiqi is about to go to sleep anyway. You stay home with Qiqi, I’ll go by myself, it’s probably just details about tomorrow’s engagement party."

"Are you really convincing yourself with that excuse?" Jiang Bei helplessly looked at Su Mu: "Su Mu, don’t be too kind. In this world, everyone but you will let you suffer, I hope you can think for yourself, even if just a little."

Su Mu nodded: "I will, don’t worry."

Su Mu was preparing to change clothes to leave, but perhaps their conversation had unsettled Qiqi, who insisted on going with Su Mu. Su Mu tried to reassure her a few times, but Qiqi persisted. Finally, Jiang Bei spoke:

"I’ll go with Qiqi, and if you find it inconvenient, Qiqi and I can wait in the car. That way, if anything happens, we can know right away."

"There’s nothing inconvenient." Su Mu smiled at Qiqi: "Let’s go together then."

When they arrived at the compound, it was nearly 10 PM. The whole three-story building of the Wen Family was lit up, showing no signs of rest. Jiang Bei and Su Mu got out of the car, glanced at the Wen Family villa, exchanged a look, and smiled slightly before walking over.

Upon entering the living room, both Su Mu and Jiang Bei felt the atmosphere was off, even Qiqi sensed it and subconsciously hid behind Su Mu. Zhou Yaxian was sitting in the living room, completely lacking the previous warmth and cordiality when seeing Su Mu, and only faintly lifted her eyes to say:

"Here? Come over and sit."

Su Mu, holding Qiqi’s hand, walked over. Unexpectedly, even Wen Shaoyuan had not yet rested so late, sitting in a corner of the living room. Seeing Qiqi, he got up, came over, and took Qiqi’s hand, saying to Su Mu:

"Aunt Su, I’ll take Qiqi upstairs to play."

Although unsure of the matter, Su Mu instinctively didn’t want Qiqi involved. She smiled slightly, saying to Wen Shaoyuan:

"Alright, thank you."

After Wen Shaoyuan and Qiqi left, Su Mu and Jiang Bei sat down on the sofa in the living room. Jiang Bei was the first to speak: "Aunt, the engagement is tomorrow. What’s so urgent that Su Mu had to come now?"

Zhou Yaxian looked at Jiang Bei and smiled softly:

"Xiaobei, you’re pregnant and shouldn’t be running around so late. Why don’t you stay here tonight? It would save you the inconvenience of going back and forth and affecting your rest."

Jiang Bei smiled faintly and looked towards Wen Han, who sat nearby looking unhappy:

"Wen Han, don’t you have anything to say?"

Wen Han glanced at Jiang Bei, and a few seconds later, his gaze fell on Su Mu:

"This evening, we received an email with a few photos. Initially, I didn’t want you to know since I know it wasn’t you. But later, some of my mother’s friends also received the same photos. I thought even if I didn’t tell you today, tomorrow you would see the hints at the engagement party, so it’s better you’re here and mentally prepared."

Wen Han had never spoken to Su Mu in such a grave tone before, so Su Mu understood the seriousness of the situation in an instant, she asked:

"What photos?"

Wen Han started to say something but Zhou Yaxian pushed an envelope that was on the table gently towards Su Mu:

"Wen Han says the photos were doctored, it’s not you. I believe Wen Han and I believe in your character, but in the end, my belief alone is useless. At tomorrow’s engagement party, because of these photos, everybody will look at you and our Wen Family with suspicion. So, do you have any idea what to do?"

With both Wen Han’s and Zhou Yaxian’s words, Su Mu had somewhat guessed the content of the photos, but she still furrowed her brows when she saw the content. Jiang Bei saw it with her, and just glanced once before saying:

"That’s not Su Mu."

The photos were risqué, featuring a nude Su Mu with another man in bed, which would make anyone believe they had engaged in relations. Ridiculously, Su Mu had no such memory.

Zhou Yaxian heard Jiang Bei but ignored her; she looked at Su Mu and gave a wry smile, more sarcastic than heartwarming:

"Su Mu, I want you to tell me, what’s the deal with these photos?"

After the initial shock, Su Mu studied the photos carefully and spoke:

"My opinion is the same as Jiang Bei, it’s not me."

"Do you have any evidence to prove it’s not you?"

Su Mu smiled faintly, put the photos back into the envelope, and placed it on the table again:

"No one knows better than me what happens to myself. I don’t recall doing such a thing, nor do I recognize the man in the photos, but I can’t deny it either. Whoever doctored these photos is indeed skilled; even I would think they are real if I looked at them."

"What plan can you put forth at the engagement ceremony tomorrow with that line of reasoning? Would anyone believe it?"

Zhou Yaxian’s tone was very calm, not about belief or disbelief, but more like a bystander maintaining enough reason. She didn’t outright say much, but Su Mu seemed to understand. Whether the photos are real or fake, the intimacy between her and Zhou Yaxian can never go back:

"No one will believe it."

Zhou Yaxian just smiled in response, not saying anything further, just looking faintly towards Wen Han.

Jiang Bei’s gaze also fell on Wen Han:

"Don’t you have anything to say?"

Wen Han didn’t speak, seemingly conflicted. Finally, Zhou Yaxian answered Jiang Bei’s question:

"After receiving the photos, Wen Han wanted to use the police’s help to find the person who sent the photos. I didn’t agree because I don’t want to blow this matter out of proportion. It wouldn’t be good for either Su Mu or the Wen Family."

"Since we’re not involving the police and Aunt believes the person in the photos isn’t Su Mu, what then is the purpose of calling Su Mu here?"
