Chapter 456: Chapter 456: I Don’t Believe What You Said, Old Man
For several days in a row, Su Mu hadn’t returned, and Qiqi had spoken with her twice on the phone. Knowing Su Mu was living well with Fu Shinian put her mind at ease. In fact, she had nothing to worry about, as Fu Shinian took great care of Qiqi. Qiqi felt less dependent and missed her less when she was by Fu Shinian’s side. Although this made her somewhat sad, she felt happier for Qiqi, who now had safer and more reliable arms to lean on. It was a good thing.
On the day the filming ended in Jiangcheng City, Su Mu invited the studio staff to dinner as a host. Unless there were unexpected changes, she wouldn’t come back here; she had handed over the work to Lin Ning before moving to Shen City, so this meal was effectively a farewell dinner, as some would not follow Su Mu to Shen City.
These people had been with the studio since its very beginning, from obscurity to their current fame. Each person had given their utmost effort. Even though they couldn’t follow her into the future, Su Mu was still grateful for their past companionship, so she inevitably drank more than she could handle that evening.
Lin Ning didn’t know that Su Mu hadn’t been home these past few days. So, when Su Mu lost consciousness, instead of taking her back to the studio’s rest room, she took her directly to her apartment. Unfortunately, Su Mu’s keys no longer worked to open her apartment door. As Lin Ning, dragging a heavily drunken Su Mu, didn’t know what to do next, the opposite door opened, and Fu Shinian, in his house clothes, appeared.
Lin Ning was startled,
"Mr. Fu, what are you doing here?"
Fu Shinian did not answer Lin Ning’s question but looked straight at Su Mu and frowned slightly, "How much did she drink?"
"About 4 or 5 bottles of beer, nearly a bottle of red wine, and some spirits."
Fu Shinian chuckled lightly, "She has grown quite tolerant over the years."
His words carried a tone of mockery. Just as Lin Ning was about to defend Su Mu, Fu Shinian grabbed Su Mu from his arms, lifting her horizontally. Seeing this, Lin Ning smiled slightly, hesitantly saying,
"Mr. Fu, although you and Sister Su have a deep relationship, technically speaking—if Sister Su knows I left her with you, she might regret her previous decision. Look, should I take Sister Su to my place, let her sleep there for the night?"
Fu Shinian looked at Lin Ning,
"Do you think I would devour her?"
Lin Ning didn’t respond, but it didn’t mean she didn’t harbor that thought, especially considering the way Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu—clearly wanting to devour her down to the bones.
"Don’t worry, even if I were to devour her, I wouldn’t do it now. I would at least wait for another month."
Lin Ning frowned,
"Why a month?"
Fu Shinian ignored her and carried Su Mu into his apartment. When Lin Ning attempted to follow them, Fu Shinian shut the door on her, almost hurting her nose. Although she wanted to break in and take Su Mu out, considering Qiqi might be with Fu Shinian and she hadn’t seen Qiqi in days, barging in might disturb Qiqi and could potentially make things ugly.
After some thought, Lin Ning decided to leave. After all, Fu Shinian said he wouldn’t touch Su Mu now. As a man of his status, he should keep his word.
Lin Ning wasn’t wrong. Fu Shinian was a man who kept his promises in any situation, but his boundaries and bottom lines were worthless in front of Su Mu, continuously broken one after another—he himself wasn’t sure if he could truly refrain from doing something to Su Mu.
But as for what, who knows?
It was nearly midnight by then, and Qiqi had already fallen asleep. Fu Shinian carefully carried Su Mu back to his bedroom and gently placed her on the bed. Just as he was about to go to the bathroom to get a wet towel, she suddenly grabbed his hand, her eyes opened wide and looked straight at him, then she smiled.
Fu Shinian confirmed that the smile wasn’t a sneer nor a mockery but a genuine, heartfelt smile. Although he didn’t know why, Fu Shinian had not seen Su Mu smile like this since their reunion. Seeing it now, he found himself unable to look away, even though he knew if Su Mu were sober, she definitely wouldn’t treat him this way.
"Fu Shinian..."
Fu Shinian smiled faintly in response, "Yes, I’m here."
"Has anyone ever told you that you are handsome?"
"Yes."
Su Mu slightly frowned, "Who?"
Fu Shinian held back a laugh, "A woman named Su Mu."
"Su Mu?" Su Mu seemed puzzled, "Do I know her? Why does she feel so familiar?"
Whether it was three years ago or three years later, Fu Shinian had never seen Su Mu so adorable. His heart softened, wishing he could record her docile demeanor now and show her when she was sober, but he dared not, fearing Su Mu would kill him if she found out. He responded gently with a smile,
"Yes, you know her."
"She is a liar."
"Why?"
"Because you are not good-looking at all."
Fu Shinian: "..."
"Fu Shinian is the ugliest! He has a venomous mouth and a bad heart, and those in the world who like him are blind. So, Su Mu is a liar and a bad woman, just like Fu Shinian!"
Fu Shinian: "... Then what about you? Do you like Fu Shinian?"
"I don’t like him!" Su Mu was categorical, her eyes reddening involuntarily, "I definitely don’t want to like him. I don’t want to like him. Liking him... it hurts..."
Fu Shinian’s heart ached as well:
"The old Fu Shinian was a bastard, who didn’t appreciate how good you were and never considered things from your perspective. He was selfish and heartless. But the current him is different; he centers his world around you, regarding you and Qiqi as his everything. He treasures and cares for you deeply, even so, you still don’t want to like him?"
Su Mu didn’t respond but shook her head.
Fu Shinian couldn’t get the answer he yearned for, feeling somewhat uneasy, yet he was persistent, continuing to ask,
"Do you have someone you like now? Wen Han? Do you like Wen Han?"
Su Mu shook her head, then nodded a moment later,
"Of course, I like Wen Han, I want to marry him, I want to marry him and forget that bastard Fu Shinian."
Fu Shinian: "..."
He shouldn’t have asked that question; otherwise, he wouldn’t be feeling a stomachache now due to her careless words. Reaching out, he pinched her nose to prevent her from breathing, and Fu Shinian leaned close to her face and ferociously warned her, "I don’t believe it!"
