Chapter 431: Chapter 431: Just in Case, Recheck Again
Fu Shinian went straight to Jiang Bei’s apartment. When Su Mu answered the door and saw Fu Shinian, she was momentarily taken aback. Seeing his unfriendly expression, she reflexively tried to close the door, but he stopped it with his hand and smiled slightly.
"Are you afraid of me or the text message I sent you last night?"
Su Mu had almost forgotten about it, but seeing him and hearing his reminder made it hard to forget. She knew that he had been harsh with words for years and liked to say things that made her uncomfortable. She hadn’t expected him to intensify now.
But Su Mu couldn’t show anger; the angrier she got, the more Fu Shinian would enjoy it. She didn’t want to let him have his way, so she laughed lightly.
"How can I not understand your words? Pushing you outside the door simply means I don’t want to see you, not that complicated as you think."
Fu Shinian smiled slightly at Su Mu, ignored her rejection, and entered the house without even changing his shoes. Su Mu didn’t even want to speak, just watched him sit on the sofa.
"What are you here for?"
"Is Qiqi still asleep?"
"Yeah." Su Mu looked at him suspiciously. "Did you just come from the old house?"
Fu Shinian nodded and said to Su Mu,
"I initially wanted to bring Qiqi along, but since she is asleep, I had Song Yi come up to help keep an eye on her. You and I should visit the hospital."
Su Mu frowned.
"What for?"
"A health check." Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu. "It’s been almost a month since Xu Yansu injected something unknown into your body. Even if there is an incubation period and even if the substance is a sophisticated drug not detectable in the early phase, there should be some trace by now. Let’s go to the hospital and have Qiao Yu look into it further, just to be sure."
Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian somewhat puzzled,
"What do you mean? Wasn’t your marriage to Xu Yansu aimed at detoxification? Why should we check on our own?"
"Xu Yansu told me this morning that what she originally injected into you was not a drug at all, just ordinary sleeping medication. This means there is no question of detoxification."
Su Mu understood and fell silent for a few seconds.
"You don’t trust her?"
"I can’t gamble with your life."
Su Mu sat opposite Fu Shinian. "What Xu Yansu meant is clear. First, what she said is true, and there’s really no virus in my body. Second, even if there is, she has no intention to help me detoxify. Do you think going to the hospital now makes any sense?"
"Of course, it does." Fu Shinian held Su Mu’s hand tightly, not letting go no matter how much she struggled. "If it’s the first case, then all the better. And if unfortunately, it’s the second case, we can start figuring out a solution early. We can’t just sit and wait for death. You have Qiqi, and even if you don’t think it’s a big deal, you should consider her."
"The virus in the old lady took them three years to figure out and they still haven’t succeeded. This is a new type; how confident do you think you can be?"
"Even if there’s no confidence, we must try. I can’t just watch you die doing nothing." Fu Shinian earnestly looked at Su Mu. "It’s unfair to me. I’ve just managed to deal with my issues around me and was thinking about how to win you back, you can’t just sentence me to death without giving me a chance."
Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian, sensing every word he said was sincere, although visiting the hospital might not really make a difference. Yet, seeing his earnest eyes, she found herself unable to refuse and after a moment, she smiled softly:
"Okay."
Fu Shinian smiled slightly and took out his phone to call Song Yi to come up and help with the child.
Before they arrived at the hospital, Qiao Yu had already received a call from Fu Shinian, so he cleared his schedule for the morning to handle Su Mu’s matter himself. Seeing them arrive together, Qiao Yu couldn’t help but smile.
"It’s really nice to see you both together."
Su Mu knew what he meant but didn’t explain as Qiao Yu might already know. Fu Shinian also uncharacteristically didn’t joke and looked at Qiao Yu seriously.
"Let’s get started quickly."
"Okay," Qiao Yu nodded. "Follow me."
A series of tests were completed near noon. Having not eaten since morning, both Su Mu and Fu Shinian were inevitably hungry. While Su Mu was worried about the child and thought of returning, Fu Shinian said there was no hurry. He had already asked Song Yi to take the child to Bishui Yuntian.
Qiao Yu spoke timely,
"The results for some tests might be out by this afternoon. If you have nothing particularly important, it would be best to stay. If there are any issues, we can address them right away."
Since Qiqi had been taken to the old lady, Su Mu wasn’t worried and would have to know the results sooner or later. She decided to settle everything today and stayed, nodding her head. Qiao Yu arranged to go for lunch, and after thinking, Su Mu invited Jiang Bei as well.
Although Jiang Bei was aware of Su Mu’s kidnapping, she didn’t know about the virus in Su Mu’s body because of her pregnancy. Some information was better left unshared if possible. Now that she knew why Su Mu was in the hospital, she was very upset. If not for concern for the baby, she might have burst out.
Su Mu comforted her for a long time until she calmed down, but her gaze at Fu Shinian grew increasingly resentful. Fu Shinian didn’t feel wronged and raised his hand in surrender first:
"I admit my fault; once again, I have put Su Mu in danger."
"Of course, you should admit your fault. Although Su Mu hasn’t been living the best life in recent years, at least it’s been peaceful. But ever since you appeared by her side, there has always been trouble around her. You’re over thirty years old; can’t you act more maturely instead of like a teenage boy who thinks he can do whatever he likes just because he is in love? If you can’t protect Su Mu then stop hovering around her and give her the peaceful life she wants. That could be your way of loving her. There’s really no need to be by her side; she isn’t lacking men."
Listening to Jiang Bei, Su Mu smiled subtly, feeling deeply fulfilled. Jiang Bei was the only one who would always stand by her side, look at the issues from her perspective, and speak for her no matter what happened. This friendship was her most significant wealth in life.
Fu Shinian wasn’t exactly arch-enemies with Jiang Bei but they were certainly incompatible in the past. Maybe because he was anxious about Su Mu’s test results all day, he didn’t dispute Jiang Bei’s words and accepted them all. He then seriously said to Jiang Bei,
"Having a friend like you by Su Mu’s side is truly her blessing."
