Chapter 393: Chapter 393: The New Neighbors, Ominous Premonition

Su Mu naturally knew that during the time Qiqi was hospitalized, Fu Shinian would visit her in the hospital whenever he had time. He even sometimes bumped into Wen Han. Although Su Mu couldn’t send him away, she had no choice but to let it be, yet every interaction occurred right under her watchful eye, and the exchanges with Qiqi weren’t extensive. When did they make such progress without her knowledge?

During her puzzlement, Qiqi’s phone suddenly rang. Just as Su Mu realized something, Qiqi had already pressed to answer the call and directly spoke:

"Fu Shinian, you’ve made Su Mu angry again. If you keep this up, I might just ignore you, you know."

Su Mu: "..."

Sighing helplessly and shaking her head, Su Mu chose not to pay any more attention to Qiqi and Fu Shinian’s conversation, knowing that no matter what, she couldn’t make herself have Qiqi hang up the call, nor could she stop Qiqi from communicating with Fu Shinian. After all, Fu Shinian did say something true.

Qiqi’s fondness for Fu Shinian wasn’t entirely like the fondness for handsome guys.

Perhaps some fondness truly stems from kinship, only now Su Mu didn’t want to admit it.

Su Mu let Qiqi and Fu Shinian chat, but hadn’t anticipated the two could talk for so long. By the time they reached the downstairs of their apartment building, the conversation was still in full swing with no intention of hanging up. Su Mu turned off the engine without getting out of the car, just watching Qiqi, hoping she would realize her actions were hurting her.

But Qiqi was laughing heartily at something Fu Shinian said over the phone, oblivious to Su Mu’s desperate gaze. About five minutes later, Qiqi finally noticed Su Mu’s look, one filled with sorrow.

Qiqi fell silent for a few seconds, then addressed Fu Shinian on the phone:

"Fu Shinian, I can’t talk to you any longer. Su Mu’s looking at me like she’s going to gobble me up; I can’t neglect her."

After pausing for a few seconds—a likely sign of consent from Fu Shinian—Qiqi ended the call and then turned to Su Mu with a big smile:

"Su Mu, I actually love you the most. Right now, Fu Shinian is just fun for me."

Su Mu: "..."

Su Mu didn’t want to say anything about Qiqi’s impish nature anymore and simply got out of the car by herself, opened the rear passenger door, and lifted her out from the child safety seat, placing her on the ground:

"It seems to me that I’m the entertainment for you. Since when have you been this happy in front of me?"

Su Mu had to admit, she felt somewhat imbalanced. Fu Shinian had appeared in Qiqi’s world for only a few days and seemed to have completely won her over. Yet she had painstakingly raised her to this size, and now Qiqi acted like a little traitor, not standing with her. This made Su Mu feel quite melancholic.

Whether Su Mu was joking or serious, Qiqi could still tell the difference. So, at that moment, Qiqi clung playfully to Su Mu’s hand as they headed to the apartment, cooing:

"Su Mu, don’t be jealous. If it’s any consolation, I’ll sleep with you tonight. Does that make us even?"

Su Mu paused her steps, looking down at the little one who didn’t even reach her waist—clearly aware she was currently favored and thereby setting her own value high, making sleeping with her seem like charity. This made Su Mu suddenly feel that no matter what, she couldn’t let Qiqi have any more contact with Fu Shinian, lest her painstakingly nurtured little princess get led astray.

Nevertheless, Su Mu wasn’t really afraid, and hummed softly:

"No need, Su Mu doesn’t need compensation from you. But, I just checked the weather forecast, and there’s supposed to be a heavy rain tonight, with thunder. You better sleep by yourself."

Saying so, she walked ahead to the apartment, leaving Qiqi pausing for a few seconds before chasing after her:

"Su Mu, I was wrong..."

Su Mu allowed herself a cunning smile where Qiqi couldn’t see: Little rascal, I can still handle you!

After bathing Qiqi and taking her to her own room to rest, the little one clung to her neck, refusing to let go:

"Su Mu, Qiqi knows she was wrong. Don’t make me sleep alone; it’s going to rain, and I’ll be scared."

The little one knew exactly when to act cute and clingy. Although Su Mu had been fibbing earlier, she couldn’t admit it now. Weighing her options, she could only appear reluctant as she carried Qiqi back to her room and put her on the bed:

"Sleep then."

As Su Mu was about to leave, Qiqi softly wrapped her arms around her neck and whispered in her ear:

"Su Mu, Qiqi loves you."

Su Mu’s heart melted at that moment—all her prior emotions vanished like a wisp of smoke. She bent down to plant a kiss on Qiqi’s forehead: "Mummy loves you too; sleep well."

After Qiqi fell asleep, Su Mu got up to tidy the bathroom. Passing by the living room, she noticed Qiqi’s phone. She glanced at it, stepped forward, picked up the phone, and found Fu Shinian’s number. Honestly, Su Mu didn’t think children Qiqi’s age had much privacy, but she knew that if she deleted Fu Shinian’s number or blocked him, Qiqi would be upset when she found out.

She really did like Fu Shinian, which was why she wanted to stay in touch with him.

After a long silence, Su Mu ultimately put down Qiqi’s phone, leaving Fu Shinian’s number untouched.

The next morning, Su Mu was awakened not by her biological clock or an alarm, but by various noises in the hallway. She reluctantly got out of bed and noticed Qiqi wasn’t sleeping well either. She intended to see what was going on but opening the door revealed that the people across the hall were moving in.

Since Su Mu had moved into this house, the apartment across had always been empty, with no one living there, but given today’s commotion, she was about to get a neighbor.

The workers smiled awkwardly upon seeing Su Mu:

"Did we make too much noise and wake you up?"

Su Mu glanced at the time. It was just after 6:00 AM—how urgent were these people, starting so early?

"It’s not an issue for me, but there’s a child in the house who has just recovered from a serious illness a couple of days ago. I wish she could rest a bit longer. Try to keep it down, if you can."

The workers nodded in agreement, apologized to Su Mu, who smiled faintly before closing the door and returning to her room.

Now that she was wide awake, Su Mu proceeded to the washroom to freshen up, planning to make breakfast for Qiqi later. However, while brushing her teeth, she suddenly had a terrible premonition that she couldn’t ignore. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she prayed that her feeling would not come true.
