Chapter 317 I Want to Be With You
Chapter 317: Chapter 317 I Want to Be With You
Jiang Bei had spent almost the entire day playing outside with Wen Shaoyuan and Su Yimo before they slowly made their way home.
At the entrance of the apartment, Jiang Bei told little Su Yimo to close her eyes. Su Yimo guessed it would be a surprise and closed her eyes expectantly, while Wen Shaoyuan watched her with a tender smile, gently holding her hand.
Jiang Bei saw this small gesture and huffed lightly:
"Don’t take liberties with our Qiqi."
Wen Shaoyuan remained unflustered:
"I’m just worried that Qiqi might trip when she enters the door later."
"I’ll hold onto Qiqi."
"The height difference between you and Qiqi is too great, and now that you’re pregnant, it might not be very convenient."
Jiang Bei clicked her tongue and looked at Wen Shaoyuan. She had always known that Wen Shaoyuan was good at arguing back, but she didn’t expect that after three years, he had become so adept that even Jiang Bei was left somewhat speechless. However, considering he was Wen Han’s son and that he really was good to Qiqi, Jiang Bei thought it was fine and decided not to argue with him too much.
"Alright then, I’ll go in first, and you bring Qiqi in later."
Wen Shaoyuan nodded: "Okay."
Wen Shaoyuan and Su Yimo didn’t wait outside for too long. Two minutes later, Wei Shaoqin opened the door, peeking his head out and wearing a smirk of triumph:
"You can come in now."
As the door opened, since Qiqi had her eyes shut, it was Wen Shaoyuan who first saw the scene that looked like a blue starry sky. He was stunned for a few seconds. Even though he was a boy and not very fond of such romantic setups, he was still somewhat overwhelmed by the sight in front of him. It wasn’t hard to imagine what Su Yimo’s reaction would be when she saw it.
He held Su Yimo’s hand, carefully walking her in and reminding her to watch her step. As the door gently closed behind them, Wen Shaoyuan whispered in Su Yimo’s ear:
"Qiqi, you can open your eyes now."
Su Yimo opened her eyes and gazed at the scene in front of her for a full half minute. Her eyes could barely take it all in, utterly captivated by the beauty around her, until she realized everyone was watching her. She then joyfully threw herself into Su Mu’s arms:
"Wow~so beautiful~, are you magicians?"
Su Mu hugged her gently, his face soft with indulgence. Initially, he had not agreed to such a grand setup, but Wei Shaoqin and Wen Han thought Su Yimo would love it, so the two men spent the whole day turning the small apartment into a starry sky.
Su Yimo indeed loved it, and in that moment, Su Mu saw a look of satisfaction on the faces of Wei Shaoqin and Wen Han. She couldn’t help but feel fortunate for Su Yimo, who, even though she hadn’t been accompanied by her father since birth, was not a child short on love. In some ways, Wei Shaoqin and Wen Han had taken on the role of her fathers.
After a simple celebration, everyone gave Su Yimo gifts. Afterwards, she went off to play with Wen Shaoyuan while Wei Shaoqin, feeling left out by the kids, started playing video games in the living room. Jiang Bei sat watching TV, while Su Mu and Wen Han were busy in the kitchen as usual.
That evening, nobody mentioned the explosive news of the day, as if by silent agreement, as if the news and the person in the news didn’t exist.
But, that was just fine.
After Su Mu and Wen Han finished cleaning the kitchen, Su Mu initially wanted to go and talk with Jiang Bei, but Wen Han stopped her first:
"I made some coffee, want to sit on the balcony?"
Su Mu looked at him, startled for a few seconds, then nodded after a moment:
"Okay."
Everyone in the living room was busy, so they hadn’t noticed that the two people who had been bustling in the kitchen had now switched locations. Wen Han placed the coffee on the small round table on the balcony and sat down with Su Mu, one on each side.
The inside of the house was full of starlight, but tonight’s night sky outside was not to be outdone, sparkling brightly. Leaning back in her chair, Su Mu gazed at the sparse moon and stars and couldn’t help but remark,
"It feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve quietly watched the night sky like this."
"You used to be too busy, and rarely had time to relax. Now everything is on the right track. Qiqi is going to kindergarten, and you will have more time than before to relax a little."
Su Mu smiled as she turned to look at him:
"What about you? It seems like you’ve been returning home more and more frequently recently."
"Yes, I’ve transferred."
Su Mu was startled for a moment: "Transferred back to Shen City?"
"Yes, I’ve lived the army life for 15 years, and those 15 years were my dream. I think for the remaining time, I should spend more time with family. I owe Shaoyuan too much."
"But you have always been his pride."
Wen Han smiled and shifted his gaze from Su Mu’s face to the night sky:
"Actually, besides wanting to spend more time with Shaoyuan, I have another wish, a personal one."
Su Mu looked into the vast night, showing no response to Wen Han’s words. After a long silence, Wen Han smiled to himself:
"It seems you already know what I want to say."
"Must it be said aloud?" Su Mu asked somewhat helplessly, "Things are fine this way."
She wasn’t foolish; even if things weren’t explicitly stated, she felt them. Over the past three years, she had constantly maintained her distance and even tried to keep this beneficial avoidance, but Wen Han always found a way to keep them in touch.
Su Mu had once selfishly thought it would be fine to continue like this forever, but that was ultimately just a fantasy.
"Don’t I have to try for myself at least once? But I can assure you, no matter the outcome, it won’t change our current relationship, whether you accept or refuse, we will remain as we are now."
Hearing this, Su Mu slowly rose from her wicker chair, walked to the railing, and took in the night air mixed with the unique mugginess of the summer. She exhaled deeply, as if trying to relax herself. What needed to be faced couldn’t be avoided.
Wen Han also stood up, picked up the coffee from the low table, and handed it to her. Su Mu accepted it, quietly expressing her thanks, but merely held it in her palms without any intention to drink.
"Your expression seems to tell me that you are thinking of an excuse to reject me."
Su Mu looked at Wen Han and shook her head, initiating the conversation:
"I haven’t thought about anything, to be honest, my mind is in a mess."
"Because of what I’m about to say?"
"Maybe." Su Mu’s tone was subdued as a breeze disturbed her ear-length short hair. As Su Mu reached to tuck the unruly strands behind her ear, Wen Han moved first. He stepped forward, gently raised his hand to smooth her hair, and slightly smiled:
"Su Mu, I want to be with you."
