Chapter 315: Chapter 315: He Doesn’t Want Me, I Don’t Want Him Either

This was the first time Fu Shinian had met Su Yimo, his own child.

That moment, his eyes reddened.

Over three years, more than a thousand days and nights, there hadn’t been a day he hadn’t thought of Su Mu, hadn’t thought of this child, but he couldn’t meet them. Heaven knows how much he missed them, but since he had never met them, even his dreams of this child were blurry, utterly indistinct.

Now, this adorable little face appeared so clearly before him, their distance was so close, so close that he could reach out and touch her anytime, but Fu Shinian dared not. He was afraid of seeing rejection in Qiqi’s eyes.

Therefore, he raised his hand and then put it down, only trying to make his smile more warm:

"Come, let me give you a hug, okay?"

Su Yimo glanced at Wen Shaoyuan, then shook her head:

"No."

Qiao Yu, standing by, felt his heart breaking, not to mention what Fu Shinian must have been feeling at that moment.

Su Yimo gave Qiao Yu the impression that she really liked handsome men, liked good-looking people of the opposite sex. He originally thought this was good, hoping that she would spontaneously like Fu Shinian when she saw him because Fu Shinian had a face one couldn’t easily forget. However, Qiao Yu had overlooked the influence Wen Shaoyuan had on Su Yimo.

It turned out she could unabashedly admire handsome men, all based on Wen Shaoyuan’s approval. But once Wen Shaoyuan became unhappy, her ’liking’ could be erased at any moment, just like earlier when she was sitting on his lap and Wen Shaoyuan merely said, ’Qiqi, come here,’ and she instantly left him and went towards Wen Shaoyuan.

Now, with Wen Shaoyuan’s obvious wariness towards Fu Shinian, Su Yimo, even though still young, could feel it, and she chose to reject Fu Shinian for the sake of Wen Shaoyuan’s feelings.

Fu Shinian also realized that whether he and Su Yimo could get along well today hinged on Wen Shaoyuan. Thus, he reluctantly shifted his gaze away from Su Yimo, looking back at Wen Shaoyuan:

"I am Qiqi’s father, I won’t hurt her."

"You didn’t want her, and that was already hurting her," Wen Shaoyuan said, neither servile nor overbearing. Though only eight years old, he turned himself into an adult, a knight, in order to protect Su Yimo: "You vanished for three years and now you want to get married, I don’t believe you."

Qiao Yu came over and pulled Wen Shaoyuan in front of him:

"Shaoyuan, do you remember what I said earlier? Should we leave Qiqi with regrets or add another person who loves her to her life? The choice is yours. Qiqi listens to you so much, she won’t do anything if you are unhappy. But does she really not want to talk to her dad?"

Qiao Yu’s words made Wen Shaoyuan look at Su Yimo, who stood there playing with her fingers, deliberately avoiding looking at Fu Shinian.

"Besides, you must have seen how much I like Qiqi. If you say Uncle Fu is going to harm Qiqi, I wouldn’t agree either. Can we give him a chance?"

Su Yimo looked up at Wen Shaoyuan, not speaking, but the emotions in those eyes strangely made Wen Shaoyuan nod:

"Okay."

Fu Shinian smiled in relief and said to an eight-year-old child:

"Thank you."

Su Yimo probably hadn’t expected Wen Shaoyuan to agree, so even though he agreed, she was still staring at him, afraid to move toward Fu Shinian until Wen Shaoyuan returned to her side and gently squeezed her hand:

"Qiqi, didn’t you want to talk to him? Go ahead, don’t be scared, I’ll be right beside you, protecting you."

The promise of a child always sounds laughable, but at the same time, it’s deeply moving because when a child of that age says they want to protect someone, they really do it with all their might without a second thought, unlike adults who might promise but still fail to deliver so many times.

Su Yimo glanced at Wen Shaoyuan, then looked back at Fu Shinian, but ultimately she couldn’t resist the lure of the word "father" for her. She walked over and stood next to Fu Shinian, yet she refused his embrace and simply said:

"Are you really my dad?"

Fu Shinian wanted to admit it but didn’t dare to, so all he could say was:

"I hope I still have the right to be your dad."

Su Yimo didn’t quite understand what he meant, and she looked somewhat helplessly at Wen Shaoyuan, feeling that the question was very difficult. However, Wen Shaoyuan just smiled, encouraging her with his eyes to say what she wanted to say and ask what she wanted to know.

Turning back to Fu Shinian, Su Yimo slowly began:

"If you are my dad, why don’t you live with me and Su Mu? Do you know that other kids often mock me for not having a dad? They call me a wild child and say Su Mu is a bad woman, but I’m not, and Su Mu isn’t either."

"It’s my fault, I apologize to you both," he could only say that.

Although Su Yimo’s expression was limited, those simple words let Fu Shinian realize how difficult the past three years had been for them. This was just what Su Yimo could express and knew about. How much more hardship had Su Mu endured that she did not let her see?

Fu Shinian had been absent from their lives for three years, and even though he had made sure they were safe by arranging everything before their separation, he had no power to stop the rumors and gossip. The only way to shut up those biting tongues was to step into the role of Su Yimo’s father, but he couldn’t do that yet.

He wanted to reach out and hold Su Yimo’s hand, but she didn’t agree, stepping back and hiding her hands behind her back:

"You made Su Mu cry."

"Qiqi..."

"I don’t like people who make Su Mu cry or make Brother Shaoyuan unhappy, but you’ve done both things I hate," Su Yimo said, returning to Wen Shaoyuan’s side. "Brother Shaoyuan, let’s leave."

Fu Shinian wanted to say something, but his throat felt as if it were choked with cotton, utterly unable to voice anything. Qiao Yu, seeing Fu Shinian’s plight, finally couldn’t help but squat down, patiently talking to Su Yimo:

"Qiqi, don’t you want a dad?"

"I have a dad." Su Yimo glanced at Fu Shinian cautiously, not so much because she was afraid of making him sad, but more worried that he might get angry and come over to hit her, so she spoke cautiously, "I have Uncle Wei, and I have Uncle Fu. They are both very kind to me and to Su Mu."

"But this man in front of you is your biological father."

Su Yimo looked at Qiao Yu, blinked, and after a few seconds of silence, just when Qiao Yu thought she might be reconsidering, Su Yimo asked him a question he couldn’t answer. She said:

"If he is my dad, why haven’t I seen him at all for three years? If he doesn’t want Qiqi, Qiqi can also not want him."
