Chapter 297: Chapter 297 The Real Madman is You
Two years ago, due to an unexpected coma, the same virus was found in Fu Shinian’s body, identical in symptoms to the old lady’s. After waking up, he was diagnosed, and he didn’t show any surprise, just looking at the anxious Xu Yansu, he slowly said:
"I never thought that this virus would be hereditary. Maybe my father also died from it, who knows."
At the time, Xu Yansu just held him tightly, crying her eyes out, and said:
"I will definitely save you. I will definitely find a way."
From that moment on, Xu Yansu began to act as Fu Shinian’s girlfriend, taking over his life, although Fu Shinian had never accepted her, even finding her presence quite annoying, but that did not interfere with Xu Yansu doing what she wanted to do.
Two years had passed, and no solution was found, but Fu Shinian’s health visibly worsened. Xu Yansu said that before long, he might experience symptoms like his grandmother, forget people, have memory disorders, and fall into comas more frequently.
That’s why she said she wanted to marry Fu Shinian.
Fu Shinian took it as a joke when he heard this, completely ignoring her. But that morning at breakfast, Xu Yansu announced something:
"I’ve decided to get engaged to Shinian."
As Xu Yansu spoke, Fu Shinian was eating his breakfast leisurely. Upon hearing her words, he glanced at her indifferently, chuckled softly, and continued eating, as if Xu Yansu’s words were nothing more than frivolous, negligible chatter. Shi Lihua, however, furrowed her brow slightly:
"Susu, what do you mean by this?"
"Auntie Hua, I mean no disrespect; I just want to marry Shinian. His health is deteriorating, and I want to stay with him until the end."
"You yourself said his health is getting worse and he could collapse at any time. Doing this means you’re sacrificing your entire life. Have you considered the consequences? Your current feelings for Shinian might not sustain you for a lifetime."
Xu Yansu smiled softly, looking at Fu Shinian:
"No one can predict the future, but at least for now, I am sure. I want to marry Shinian, to be with him for life, no matter how much time he has left. I’ll always be there for him."
Shi Lihua didn’t say anything further, just looked towards Fu Shinian, who realized that everyone’s attention was focused on him. He lost his appetite and put his chopsticks down carelessly, leaning lazily back in his chair:
"Shouldn’t marriage be the wish of both parties? Did any of you ask the opinion of me, the person involved? Why do I feel like your conversation just now assumed that as long as Xu Yansu agrees to the marriage, it will naturally happen? Is my wish not important, or should a dying man not have any opinion and should be grateful for your decisions? After all, no smart person would choose to marry someone with a terminal illness, right?"
Xu Yansu looked at Fu Shinian, her eyes full of distress:
"Shinian, don’t think like that. I will definitely find a way to save you."
"It’s been two years. If there was a way to save me, you would have found it by now. There isn’t one now, and there might not be one in the future," Fu Shinian said. He stood from his seat, gave a slight smile, "I won’t get married. One, I don’t like you. Two, I don’t want to hold you back. You better let go of that thought and not waste your time on me."
As Fu Shinian walked toward the stairs, Xu Yansu couldn’t hold back anymore and blurted out:
"Whether you like me or not, I won’t give up. I’ve already booked the studio for the wedding photos. Before that, I will make you agree."
Fu Shinian continued upstairs as if he hadn’t heard a word.
When only Shi Lihua and Xu Yansu were left in the dining room, Shi Lihua’s dissatisfaction gradually surfaced, and she said coldly:
"Shouldn’t you have asked my opinion before making any decisions?"
Xu Yansu came back to her senses and looked at Shi Lihua:
"Does asking make a difference? You would never agree anyway. Rather than hearing your objection first, I prefer to act now and report later."
"You’ve become increasingly disobedient lately."
"Perhaps you should never have let me come back." Xu Yansu smiled self-deprecatingly: "No matter what your purpose for bringing me back to Shen City was, or what your ultimate plan is, those have nothing to do with me. After I marry Fu Shinian, I will remove all the viruses from his body. I will ensure he lives a healthy life."
At her words, Shi Lihua’s face completely chilled:
"You dare!"
"Of course I dare. The virus in his body is my doing. It’s only fitting that I remove it." Xu Yansu looked at her: "I admit, all my achievements were bestowed by you, all my knowledge was taught by you, but eliminating such a virus is, for me, quite easy."
"If you continue to act recklessly, disregarding what I say, then get lost back to Italy. I don’t have a student like you, nor do I have a daughter like you."
Xu Yansu smiled faintly:
"If you had told me earlier that by returning to Shen City, I would be involved in this sort of thing, maybe I wouldn’t have chosen to come back at all. If I hadn’t returned, I wouldn’t have met Fu Shinian, wouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Perhaps then there could have been a more normal start between us, and he might have gotten to know the real me, not shunning my gaze like I’m a snake or a scorpion."
"You’re crazy."
"I’m not crazy." Xu Yansu met her gaze unflinchingly: "Maybe the crazy one has always been you. He’s not just anyone; he’s your son. I’ve never seen a mother do such things to her own son."
Shi Lihua looked at Xu Yansu and didn’t speak for a long time. She had to admit her miscalculation. Initially choosing her and bringing her back was only because she appreciated her obedience, her talent, and her tainted past under Shi Lihua’s influence, thinking the entire plan would be foolproof from start to finish. Yet, an unforeseen change happened—she fell in love with Fu Shinian.
All her plans were about to conclude, and she definitely wouldn’t stand by and watch Xu Yansu ruin everything.
