Chapter 167: Unconscious and Unawake
Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Unconscious and Unawake
Su Mu slept restlessly. Each time she fell asleep, she would have the same dream about her state at Bishui Yuntian half a month earlier, as well as the abuse Fu Shinian had inflicted upon her.
She had never experienced this before, not even when she first moved from Bishui Yuntian to the Glass House. Now, after so many days, those days’ events flashed through her mind like a movie, terrifyingly clear.
She wasn’t sure how many times she had woken up, but the sky outside the window was already light. The dim light seeped through the single layer of curtains, and Su Mu saw the figure on the sofa. Silently, for a few seconds, Su Mu got up from the bed.
After Su Mu left the room, Fu Shinian also opened his eyes. If Su Mu had not slept all night, neither had he. In addition to being shocked by the events seven years ago, he was acutely aware of the nightmares that plagued Su Mu.
He had intended to wake her up, but as he approached, he heard her murmuring, "Fu Shinian, let go of me."
In that moment, Fu Shinian wasn’t sure whether waking her up was the right choice, but fortunately, her nightmare didn’t last too long. She soon woke up, breathing heavily.
It was the same dream, repeated multiple times.
The room was so quiet that only his own breathing could be heard. Fu Shinian got up to draw the curtains and then saw Su Mu, wearing a down jacket, walking in the courtyard. A few seconds later, he took out his phone and dialed Song Yi. From the other side came Song Yi’s somewhat groggy voice:
"Mr... Mr. Fu?"
"Go and check something for me. A car accident that Su Mu was involved in seven years ago in August. I want the most detailed information."
This was the result Fu Shinian had come to after pondering all night. He wanted to know the truth. Even though Qiao Yu had said that hiding the truth wasn’t wrong, he didn’t want to continue living under someone else’s identity in this foggy state. He wanted to know the truth, although he hadn’t yet decided whether or not to tell Su Mu.
At 7 o’clock, Fu Shinian went downstairs. Auntie Wang was busy in the kitchen and smiled at him as she greeted him. Fu Shinian responded lightly,
"How’s Grandma?"
"The old lady is still sleeping."
Fu Shinian frowned slightly, "Still sleeping?"
Grandma’s sleep was always short. Early to bed and early to rise was her habit. At this time of day, she would usually have already gotten up to listen to the radio.
Auntie Wang also found it strange:
"I also think something is not right. But when I checked on the old lady, she didn’t seem off at all, her temperature was normal. I called her twice, and she even responded to me, but then she said she was still tired and went back to sleep."
Still concerned, Fu Shinian turned and headed to Grandma’s room. He happened to encounter Su Mu, who had just returned from outside. Seeing his troubled face and the direction he was headed, Su Mu immediately had a bad feeling:
"Is something wrong with Grandma?"
Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu,
"Grandma hasn’t woken up yet."
Su Mu was also very familiar with the old lady’s routine. Hearing what Fu Shinian said, she sensed that something was off and quickly headed to Grandma’s room.
In the room, the old lady was indeed still asleep. Her peaceful appearance showed no sign of waking. Su Mu checked her temperature, which was normal. She hesitated, looking at Fu Shinian. At that moment, Fu Shinian came closer and called out softly,
"Grandma, Grandma..."
The old lady didn’t respond.
Panic-stricken, Su Mu cried out, "Grandma, Grandma, don’t scare me."
After calling out several times with no response, Fu Shinian could wait no longer and immediately called Qiao Yu. Initially, Qiao Yu didn’t quite believe it, thinking that Su Mu wanted to leave, and Grandma was up to her old tricks again. But Fu Shinian then said,
"This time it’s real."
Su Mu also heard this, and with Fu Shinian keeping his eyes on her, he realized that she had already known.
After hanging up, Fu Shinian called the private doctor responsible for Grandma’s care.
During the waiting time, it seemed like they could do nothing. Fu Shinian stood in front of the elderly lady’s bed and said softly,
"I didn’t know about Grandma’s feigned illness yesterday at first."
Su Mu blinked, because she was squatting in front of Grandma’s bed, and with just a slight bow of his head, Fu Shinian could see her long, thick eyelashes fluttering like little fans.
"Maybe you didn’t know at first, but you also didn’t tell me."
Fu Shinian responded,
"If it weren’t for my grandma, this wouldn’t have happened. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
But Su Mu didn’t want to talk about this topic at the moment:
"Let’s wait until Grandma wakes up before discussing it."
Both Qiao Yu and Dr. Zhang didn’t dare to delay with the elderly lady’s condition. The two of them arrived at the old house one after another, agreed to give the elderly lady a series of examinations, and ultimately confirmed that she had no problems.
Fu Shinian furrowed his brows:
"No problems? If there are no problems, why is she still unconscious?"
For this question, neither Qiao Yu nor Dr. Zhang could explain it. In the end, they could only say:
"Although Dr. Zhang and I have concluded that Grandma won’t have any problems, I think for safety’s sake, we still need to go to the hospital for a check-up now. Even though we have some equipment at home, it’s still not the same as the hospital."
Fu Shinian did not hesitate:
"You arrange it."
"Alright."
When the ambulance arrived, Su Shiyue also heard the noise upstairs. She ran down disheveled and in her pajamas, watching as Grandma was carried into the ambulance, her whole person stunned:
"Grandma, what’s wrong with Grandma?"
Fu Shinian stopped her:
"Stay at home and behave."
"What’s wrong with Grandma? I want to see her."
"Even if you go, would you go dressed like that?"
Su Shiyue glanced at her clothes and realized they were indeed inappropriate. She hastily ran back upstairs, nearly falling in the process. Fu Shinian watched her retreating figure until she disappeared from his sight before turning to leave.
In the hospital, the elderly lady was sent here and there for examinations, with Su Mu always by her side, never leaving for a moment. Jiang Bei also heard of it and thought that since it was early morning, nobody might have had breakfast, so he bought some and brought it over.
On the long bench in the corridor, Su Mu and Fu Shinian sat at opposite ends, waiting for the results. Jiang Bei came over, sat down next to Su Mu, and passed her the breakfast:
"Haven’t eaten anything, have you? Eat something first. Your stomach can’t take much more of this strain."
Su Mu had no appetite, but before she could refuse, Fu Shinian stood up from across and took the breakfast out of Jiang Bei’s hands without any forewarning, leaving Jiang Bei indignant:
"What are you doing? I didn’t buy that for you."
Fu Shinian ignored Jiang Bei’s protest, opened the breakfast one item at a time, and offered it to Su Mu:
"It will be a while until Grandma’s examination is over. You should eat a little bit; don’t let yourself collapse before Grandma comes out."
Su Mu looked up at him, as if she were looking at a stranger.
