Chapter 119: He Believes in Su Mu

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: He Believes in Su Mu

At this point at the Wen Family’s house, Ji Qingluan hadn’t left yet. Zhou Yaxian and Wen Songyan then took Wen Shaoyuan’s hand and went upstairs, leaving space for the two.

The living room suddenly felt empty. Wen Han noticed Ji Qingluan’s gaze fixed on him, and then he stood up from the sofa:

"It’s getting late, I’ll drive you back."

Ji Qingluan didn’t move. As Wen Han moved past her to grab his car keys, she suddenly grasped his hand. Wen Han paused momentarily, instinctively trying to break free, only to find that both of her hands were tightly clutching his. He was strong enough to break free, but he knew that doing so would hurt Ji Qingluan. So he didn’t move, and he could only sigh helplessly:

"Qingluan, dinner didn’t include alcohol, don’t tell me you’ve had too much to drink."

Ji Qingluan chuckled lightly:

"What? Can’t I talk to you if I haven’t had a drink?"

Wen Han glanced at her hands:

"Let’s go outside to talk."

This time, Ji Qingluan did not refuse and followed him, leaving the Wen Family home.

As the snow continued to fall outside, Wen Han drove towards the Ji Family’s direction. Ji Qingluan lowered her own side of the car window and slowly stretched out her hand to catch the falling snow.

Upon seeing this action, Wen Han immediately pressed a button to raise the window:

"It’s dangerous."

Ji Qingluan wasn’t offended, instead, she smiled slightly, perhaps this was the only instance where she could feel that Wen Han wasn’t indifferent or heartless.

As the all-too-familiar road came into view, Ji Qingluan spoke slowly:

"You said earlier that you would stay out with me to talk; are you planning to go back on your word and directly take me home now?"

Wen Han hadn’t planned on breaking his word, but he also hadn’t decided where to bring Ji Qingluan. He continued to drive in the direction of the Ji Family. Hearing her say this, Wen Han slowed down and said:

"Where would you like to go?"

"Just stop by the roadside, I don’t have much to say."

Wen Han slowed the car to a stop by the roadside:

"What do you want to say?"

Actually, Ji Qingluan didn’t really want to say anything specific. She just wanted to ask Wen Han a question, a very simple question that might not get an answer. She watched as the car window slowly got covered with snow, smiled slightly, and said:

"Wen Han, have you fallen for Su Mu?"

——

After returning to the ancestral home, the old lady immediately called Fu Shinian into the room to talk, and Su Mu didn’t follow, choosing to go upstairs.

In the old lady’s room, Fu Shinian stealthily glanced at her then walked over to the window to pick up a walking stick and handed it to her:

"Grandma, were you thinking of hitting me?"

"What exactly is going on between you and Su Mu?" the old lady asked, staring at him. "Even a blind man could see there’s something wrong between you two today. I wondered why lately you and Su Mu had been visiting me separately, mentioning you were ’busy.’ I don’t think you’re busy; you think I’m blind, really, I do know."

Fu Shinian did not reply immediately; instead, he placed his walking cane back in its spot before sitting down in front of the old lady, carefully observing her:

"Su Mu and I have been interacting like this for the past two years, has the old lady not gotten used to it yet?"

"That was the past. Back then, you had no feelings for each other; if I had intervened forcefully, it would have backfired. But haven’t things changed a lot recently? I can tell you’re no longer as indifferent to Su Mu as before. But just after a few good days, you’ve turned things into this mess?" The old lady looked at him discontentedly, "Tell me the truth, how long has it been since you’ve gone back to Bishui Yuntian?"

Fu Shinian smiled slightly:

"Nothing can escape your eyes."

The old lady huffed coldly, ignoring him.

"These are minor issues, you needn’t worry."

"I believe the past issues were minor, precisely because I knew they were minor I didn’t bother to intervene or inquire, but what about today? How do you explain today’s matter?" The old lady looked at him, her eyes losing the sharpness and dissatisfaction, instead showing a hint of helplessness, "Could it be that you’re misunderstanding something between Su Mu and Wen Han?"

Fu Shinian pursed his lips, then chuckled lightly:

"No, I trust Su Mu wouldn’t do such things."

"Since you know what kind of person Su Mu is, why do you still look at her with such eyes? Do you realize how hurtful your behavior is?" The old lady sighed softly, "Su Mu is quite pitiful. Although she still has her mother, at the end of the day, it’s almost as if she has no family. If she faces injustice, she can’t even return to her maternal home. You must not be misguided and mistreat her."

Fu Shinian nodded in acknowledgment.

After leaving the old lady’s room, Fu Shinian did not immediately go upstairs. He sat down on the couch in the living room and then remembered the scene he had seen here last time, where Su Mu was squatting in front of his grandmother, bowing her head as she washed her grandmother’s feet. Thinking of this, Fu Shinian’s thoughts inexplicably softened.

Actually, every time he returned to the old house, his mind was able to immerse itself and calm down more. He was very clear about why he was angry—it wasn’t because he suspected something between Su Mu and Wen Han, he knew that wasn’t something Su Mu would do. He was angry because she was oblivious to Wen Han’s feelings for her.

When he returned to the master bedroom, Su Mu had just come out of the bathroom. Hearing the noise, she turned her face to look, allowing Fu Shinian to see she wanted to say something, but ultimately she remained silent.

Fu Shinian casually took off his jacket and slowly began:

"Want to ask what the old lady and I discussed?"

Su Mu shook her head, "I just wanted to ask about grandmother’s health, I sensed she was not in a good mood."

Su Mu had finished speaking these words and was already preparing to get into bed without waiting for Fu Shinian. Although she knew that under the current circumstances, it wasn’t suitable for the two of them to share a bed at this moment, still being in the old house and having previously never appeared together, she was afraid the grandmother might already suspect something, so under any circumstances, they couldn’t sleep in separate rooms.

Before entering the bathroom, Fu Shinian turned to look at her once more, noticing her actions and commenting:

"Your hair is still wet."

Su Mu paused briefly, then replied, "It’s fine; I won’t sleep yet."

Fu Shinian said no more and went straight into the bathroom.

By the time Fu Shinian came out of the bathroom, the person who had said she wouldn’t sleep yet was leaning against the head of the bed, with her head drooping and breathing evenly—she had already fallen asleep at some point. Fu Shinian stood at the door for a few seconds, sighed helplessly, and walked over to pat her face.

Su Mu instantly woke up, looking at Fu Shinian in front of her, seemingly not yet completely aware of her surroundings, and just slightly smiled:

"You’re done washing?"

Fu Shinian was sure, at that moment, Su Mu had certainly forgotten all the unpleasantness between them; her memory paused two weeks ago.

This version of Su Mu made Fu Shinian irresistibly provoked; seeing her rationality gradually return, and the smile on her face slowly fading away, Fu Shinian did not give her any more time and directly leaned down to kiss her.
