Chapter 115: Chapter 115: The So-Called Female Companion
Although Su Mu was surprised by Fu Shinian’s acceptance of the party invitation, she wasn’t particularly moved by it. She even felt relieved knowing he would avoid suspicion and not attend with her.
Two days before Wen Shaoyuan’s birthday party, Su Mu was no longer busy with tutoring. During this time, she chose a gift for him. She remembered Wen Shaoyuan mentioning his favorite thing was an Avengers Alliance figurine, but the last one had been broken by her grandmother. Until yesterday, she hadn’t seen him purchase a new one, so she decided to buy a set for him.
Su Mu wasn’t aware of the price of the figurines at first and got quite a shock when she found out. But she believed that gifts should cater to what one likes, or else they are pointless. Although it hurt her budget, fortunately, she didn’t need to worry about money as much and bought it regardless.
Leaving the figurine store, Su Mu once again saw the Hasselblad billboard. She hesitated for a few seconds and then hailed a cab to the digital plaza.
It was the first time since her graduation that Su Mu had touched a camera, she had almost forgotten how it felt. But the moment she held it, she knew it was a passion ingrained in her bones, one not easily forgotten over time.
An unexpected opportunity had given her back something she thought would take much longer to reclaim.
After buying a camera worth nearly 400,000, Su Mu had an even bolder idea—she wanted to open her own studio and revive her dream that had been set aside. Before, she had been constrained by the lack of money, but now, without these worries, she didn’t need to hold back any longer.
However, starting a studio wasn’t a task that could be done in a day or two. She needed time, and furthermore, she didn’t plan on resigning from her tutor position at Wen Shaoyuan’s home. When she was facing the toughest times, it was Wen Han who had given her a job. Until the Wen Family could completely trust someone else with their child without concerns, she couldn’t just leave.
When Su Mu returned home, the first thing she did was sit cross-legged on her bed and wipe her camera lovingly. Without anyone to share her joy with, she ended up taking a few photos of her long-coveted camera with her mobile phone and uploaded them to her Weibo, with the caption:
Besides him, it’s what I wanted the most.
What Su Mu didn’t know was that as soon as her post went live, Fu Shinian’s phone chimed with a notification. He picked it up and browsed her Weibo. She rarely shared her feelings, with the last post being six months ago. He had thought that Su Mu’s Weibo would slowly go inactive, considering her life with him was becoming more stable.
No matter how profound her memories of that man were, ultimately, they could not withstand the erosions of time and the mundane daily life.
Yet today, six months later, she had updated her Weibo, bringing him up again.
Although the main focus was the camera, Fu Shinian cared more about the three words in front. It seemed that he, who she referred to, had never been forgotten by her; instead, she had buried him deeper in her heart, recalling him occasionally, unable to let go entirely.
Clicking on the picture to see the camera, Fu Shinian fell silent for a few seconds before closing Weibo.
After leaving the car dealership that day, he had gone out of his way to check the camera brand and its price. He had even instructed Song Yi to buy one, waiting to give it to her the next time she came to see him. He was no longer insistent on making her change completely, but she never showed up.
Staring at the neon outside the window, Fu Shinian sank into a deep silence until an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach reminded him that it was already 9 o’clock, and he had not had dinner.
Two hours before, he had let Song Yi leave, so there was no one to remind him. Standing up from his chair and grabbing his overcoat, he headed toward the door and casually called Qiao Yu:
"Wanna go out for a drink?"
----
On the day of the banquet, Su Mu had no intention of arriving early. Even though she was Wen Shaoyuan’s teacher on regular days, today she was just an ordinary guest. Despite wearing a gown, Su Mu still chose the most understated one and didn’t leave until there was only an hour left before the event.
Not having contacted Fu Shinian, she had no idea when he would arrive, but she couldn’t suppress a certain anticipation of meeting him tonight. Although she wanted to maintain her stance, the past few days without seeing him had made her miss him like crazy.
She even doubted why she had been able to hold out for so long, not seeing him?
Was any of this meaningful?
When Su Mu arrived, she thought she was at the wrong place because there were no signs of a party, just a place that looked like any other day. Taking out the invitation, she read it again to be sure she was in the right place.
Entering with a puzzled mind, Su Mu noticed that the interior décor was more festive, but definitely not extravagant. There were just some alphabet balloons that a common household would have and some streamers, making her feel overdressed in her gown.
The first to notice Su Mu was Wen Han, who called out from behind her:
"You’re here?"
Turning around to see Wen Han dressed in a suit and tie, Su Mu felt her outfit might not be overly formal after all. She smiled slightly:
"I thought it was going to be a formal party and dressed up especially."
Wen Han looked her up and down and sincerely complimented, "You look beautiful."
"If I had known, I would have come in casual dress." Su Mu still felt a little awkward, even though Wen Han was also formally dressed.
"My parents are not ones for extravagance, and their jobs are closely tied to hosting functions, so they save where they can with our own affairs. We were at fault for not informing you in advance," Wen Han said, glancing behind Su Mu. "Did Mr. Fu not come with you?"
Su Mu’s expression froze at these words. She remembered Song Yi mentioning that Fu Shinian would bring a female companion, but if it were a large party, that would be fine. However, under the current circumstances, it would be inappropriate for Fu Shinian to bring anyone.
It was no longer a question of whether they were getting along, but rather an issue of Fu Shinian’s reputation.
"Sorry, I need to make a call." Without caring whether her abrupt departure was rude, Su Mu hurried out to call Fu Shinian. She had barely taken her phone out of her bag when she looked up and saw Fu Shinian, dressed in a black coat, walking towards her.
By his side was his grandmother, who hadn’t been out for a long time.
Could it be that the female companion Fu Shinian had mentioned wasn’t Qin Nianwan but his grandmother?
