Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Someone Knows Better Than Me

Su Mu gave a slight smile:

"Aren’t you standing right in front of me now? I think Fu Shinian never really intended to burn you alive, but you actually wanted to get me killed in a car crash."

"You’re full of crap!"

Wei Shaoqin couldn’t help but curse, but before he could finish his sentence, Jiang Bei suddenly appeared, and had also overheard his disrespectful remark towards Su Mu. She rushed forward two steps, standing in front of Su Mu, guarding her like a hen protecting her chick:

"Who are you cursing at?"

Wei Shaoqin: "...I was just simply venting my own indignation."

Jiang Bei snorted lightly, "Vent your anger by fighting men, why yell at our Susu? If you think you can’t handle the person who annoyed you, should I go into the hospital and get you a sedative to calm you down?"

Wei Shaoqin had always thought of Jiang Bei as a heroine who hated evil, but this encounter completely overturned his impression of her; she turned out to be just like any other woman, unreasonable and domineering.

Seeing Su Mu hiding behind Jiang Bei and snickering, Wei Shaoqin couldn’t help but look to the sky speechless. He wondered what madness had possessed him today to think of inviting these two demonesses for a meal.

To cater to the ladies’ tastes, Wei Shaoqin specifically chose hot pot. Based on his experience with numerous women, he deduced that no woman dislikes hot pot, and indeed, his guess was correct, as both Su Mu and Jiang Bei agreed to his suggestion readily.

In the car, Jiang Bei was curious about the topic Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin were discussing earlier:

"What were you guys talking about just now?"

Su Mu was about to answer with a smile when Wei Shaoqin spoke up, pleading:

"Goddess Su, can we not bring this up now? With your friend’s temperament, I’m afraid we really might end up in a serious car accident."

Jiang Bei glared at him:

"What’s wrong with my temperament? What are you implying? If you hadn’t been rude to Susu, would I have acted that way? Even if my temper is bad, it doesn’t affect you, does it? My parents raised me all these years, they spend day and night with me and have never once said I have a bad temperament. Why should I restrain myself for a stranger like you? Who are you to me?"

Wei Shaoqin: "...Madam, I just said one thing."

"Even one thing is too much," Jiang Bei shouted back. "I hate it when people say I have a bad temper!"

Su Mu couldn’t help but laugh, but she did not bring up the Film and Television City matter, as Wei Shaoqin said. She was genuinely worried that if she spoke now, Jiang Bei might just dismantle Wei Shaoqin on the spot. Being a doctor, she despised anyone who took life and health lightly, especially those around her.

But with that topic aside, Jiang Bei had something else to ask:

"I saw the news. What’s going on with you and Fu Shinian? Why would he suddenly go mad and whisk you away to buy out an entire mall? Has he seen the light? Trying to win your heart back?"

Wei Shaoqin: "I was about to ask you that."

Jiang Bei glared at him: "You’re everywhere."

Wei Shaoqin: "..."

Su Mu smiled gently:

"It’s nothing, just something he discovered."

"The thing about you not spending a single penny of his money?"

Su Mu agreed, and then suddenly remembered something. He pulled out his phone and transferred some money to Jiang Bei, who, upon hearing the phone chime, checked it and then reacted, "Why are you transferring money to me? Even if you are rich, you can’t just give money to anyone."

"I couldn’t pay my mom’s nursing home fees before and had borrowed some money from you, didn’t I? I’ve come to realize that I shouldn’t bear everything all by myself. It makes no sense to keep owing you."

"If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten about it." Jiang Bei put away his phone, "But I support you—why shouldn’t you spend his money? These past few years, you haven’t asked him for anything, haven’t used any of his resources. It’s only right to spend some of his money, especially given his wealth. If you don’t use his money, that might actually hurt his pride."

Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei, "Do you think so too?"

"Men and women aren’t the same. If you don’t spend his money, some people might see you as independent, while others might feel their dignity is violated. But if you do spend his money, he might think you’re materialistic, although there are also those who believe that this is what a man should provide for a woman. All in all, those who think the former are usually the ones without money; those thinking the latter are typically chauvinists."

Jiang Bei summarized, "Fu Shinian belongs to the latter group, but he’s not too bad. At least in terms of money, he has never treated you poorly. It’s you who has always stuck to your principles, trying to prove something."

As they got out of the car at their destination, Wei Shaoqin, who had been silent the whole ride, finally spoke:

"Why don’t you spend Fu Shinian’s money?"

Su Mu smiled slightly:

"Does it concern you?"

Wei Shaoqin finally lost his temper, "This meal is uneatable. You all simply don’t respect me at all. It’s me, this young master who invited you all to eat. Can you show a little respect to your host?"

Jiang Bei circled around the car to Su Mu’s side, affectionately looping her arm:

"Fine then, you should head back. It’s as if we need your meal money."

Without even caring for Wei Shaoqin, Jiang Bei and Su Mu headed for the restaurant, leaving Wei Shaoqin standing there, grinding his teeth in fury, wishing he could pulverize the two women before him.

Inside the private room, Jiang Bei brought up Qin Nianwan:

"I’ve never asked you about Fu Shinian and Qin Nianwan’s affair, but today it’s clearly a marital issue between you and Fu Shinian. What’s with her sticking her nose in? It couldn’t be that there’s really something between Qin Nianwan and Fu Shinian, could it?"

It was at this moment that Wei Shaoqin walked in and sat down opposite them:

"I don’t think Fu Shinian really considers Qin Nianwan that important."

Jiang Bei looked at him:

"What do you mean by that?"

Wei Shaoqin then shared the incident at the movie town. Jiang Bei immediately stood up from his chair and pulled Su Mu up, scrutinizing her from front to back, "Are you hurt? How could you not tell me about such a big incident?"

Su Mu reassured her:

"It’s nothing. I didn’t even get a scratch. I went back to the hotel and slept all afternoon. If there had been something serious, I wouldn’t be able to stand here fine in front of you now, would I? Don’t be so anxious."

After hearing her, Jiang Bei realized she might indeed have overreacted and sat down again, calming down:

"But how could the brake line fail just like that? Could it have been Qin Nianwan’s doing? I’ve seen plenty of movies and novels of this type. These villainesses are very malicious and never show mercy."

Su Mu smiled faintly, looking at Wei Shaoqin:

"Regarding this question, I think Wei Shao might know better than I do, right?"
